As of next week, Mrs Ryan is relinquishing this role in order to concentrate her efforts more concisely on her classroom pracce and the students in her immediate care. Throughout her me in the role as AP, Mrs Ryan has provided exceponal leadership on her Stage, whilst simultaneously providing high quality support for students, staff and families school wide. I am sure that Mrs Ryan will not mind me saying that it was a difficult decision for her to decide to step down from the role that she has fulfilled so well. I, for one, am very sorry to see Mrs Ryan stepping down from this role, and I would like to thank her for all of her hard work and achievements over the past three and a half years. Mrs Ryan will connue in the role of class teacher at Lismore Heights Public School. During the proceedings, some of our students were selected to go on to the stage to display their leadership potenal. Caprice and Liona captured the event below: My heart was pounding, legs were shaking. FREEZE!shouted Cameron, the compere. My school mates looked at me, their eyes filled with disappointment. I felt uneasy with my answer. HOT!yelled Cameron. I throw my hands in to the air and jumped with excitement. Just one queson leſt in the game of Hot or Not’. My head started to spin. The ebreaker between me and another girl from a different schoolWinning (we soon learned) was not the point. It was what you learned along the way, and the way that you behaved that really maered. Throughout the conference, and during the games, the compere talked about how we can make a difference, idenfy our strengths and contribute to our schools. They taught us about the skills necessary to be a confident, successful leader: Leadership is about people, not posion or power”. This means that people want to follow you because of who you are, not because of the posion and power you have. It s a marvellous conference that engaged and movated us all to become the leaders that we aspire to be. We aim to incorporate some of the ideas that we learned into our leadership styles back at school. Young Leaders Conference On Thursday last week, eight of our Senior Leaders attended the GRIP Young Leaders Conference at Lismore’s City Hall. P&C News A huge thank you to our P&C members and volunteers who worked hard to create gifts and collect items for our Mother’s Day Stall last week. The quality of the gifts on offer was amazing. And with gifts starting from just $1, you may be surprised to know that our P&C made a whopping $715 profit from the stall. The P&C’s next venture is the Election Day BBQ here at Lismore Heights Public School this weekend - please spread the news and help our P&C turn their efforts in to dollars! All families are invited to our next P&C Meeting, which will be held on Wednesday 22 May, starting at 6.30pm in the school staffroom. Everyone is welcome.

Cross Country There is little in life more satisfying than seeing school children hurtling down the running track at the start of a race with beaming smiles, excitement in their eyes and the shouts of encouragement coming from mums and dads ringing in their ears. That’s how it was at the start of every cross country race during our school carnival last week. As you might expect, the excitement waned a little as the challenge of completing lap after lap of the cross country course took its toll, but that didn’t stop anyone from having lots of fun! Our thanks to Mr Dunville and the staff who organised and supervised the event, and a special word of thanks to the parents and family members who attended to show their support for our young athletes. Thanks also to Trish and her canteen helpers who ensured that attendees had refreshments at hand throughout the morning.

Winners: Age 5/6: Jarius, Niyah, Age 7: Cameron, Isabelle, Age 8/9: Milena, Eli, Age 10: Grace, Jamal, Age 11: Haley, Kayden, Age 12/13: Charlie, Lucas

Passing down Knowledge

Sharing stories with our children, about what life was like for us when we were growing up, can help them to develop a deeper understanding of their family’s history - their own history. Jeremiah recently spent time with his Uncle Ray and other family members in Muli Muli, where Jeremiah grew up. They talked about what it was like growing up in that community and the importance of certain buildings and landmarks, which led to the creation of this beautiful artwork, which Jeremiah painted with his uncle.

Next weeks rule:

Playground

When students are in the playground they must stay in bounds, walk on hard surfaces,

wear a hat, keep hands and feet to themselves, include others, share equipment, be in lines before 2nd bell, use ‘5 Finger Friends’, follow game rules.

Peer Support – Caring For Friends This week in Peer Support the children will be participating in activities helping them to identify and accept differences in people. Children will also identify ways they can demonstrate being caring through their actions. Discuss with your child the importance of accepting differences in other people. Perhaps take the time to identify and discuss the various differences people may have eg appearance, religion, culture, disabilities. Ask your child to share the qualities they appreciate in their friends.

Got It! Tip of the Week Reading feelings books will help you to support your child to learn about emotions. While reading different books, you may ask them questions that help them to think about different emotions and to learn how to recognise feelings. For example, you might ask, “How do you think she is feeling?”, “How do you know that he is feeling sad?”, “What is his face doing that lets us know he is angry?” and “What is her body doing to let us know she is excited?” You can also start asking your child how they might feel if they were in the same situation as the character in the book.
