HEIS IN CORDILLERA UNDER GO SECOND CONSULTATION ON K TO 12

Fifty-nine officials and representatives of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in the Cordillera are well informed of what to expect upon the full implementation K to 12 on school year 2016 during the consultation at the Department of Education-Division Office, Wangal, La Trindad, Benguet last October 17, 2014.

With the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) mandate to promote and protect the rights and welfare of Filipino workforce, organized a second round Regional Education Industry Tripartite Council Consultation on the Labor and Management Component of Republic Act 10533 (Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013) also known as K to 12 Program.

The activity is in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA to promote stronger partnership with HEIs in crafting and enhancement of action plans against the possible effects of the K to 12 to public and private educational institutions and to their teaching and non-teaching workforce.

During the first consultation last August 22 at Crown Legacy, Baguio City HEIs were briefed on the different issues and concerns regarding the enhanced K to 12 Basic education program and the same was thoroughly discussed for the stakeholders to understand.

The second consultation aims to monitor accomplishments of the previous consultation and, to have workshop on action plan for HEIs who are still in to the process of making their plans and to help HEIs who have submitted their plans through enhancement to address the labor and management-related concerns that HEIs could encounter including possible displacement of teaching and non-teaching personnel during the transition period of K to 12 starting academic year 2016-2017.

The goal of the enhanced K to 12 basic education program is to give every student opportunity to receive quality education based on enhanced and decongested curriculum that is internationally recognized.

The program will also change the public perception that high school education is just a preparation for college but rather it produces graduates with sufficient skills and competencies and allows opportunities for employment.

OIC Assistant Regional Director gives a program overview during the second round consultation on K to 12.
