Thursday 9th July 2020 Hello Year 2, Are you ready for another day of learning? Well done with all your efforts so far this week – we have been very impressed with the learning you have been sending in. Keep it coming! We have shared lots of stories lately about the importance of valuing each other and being kind. Why do you think this topic is so important? What would the world be like if everyone was kind? This book is called Kind, and is about the ways we can be kind to others. The book itself is also kind, as it was written to help raise money for charity. We hope it inspires you to be kind today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dygk3ZGX3ys Have a good day, From Mrs Mooney, Ms Scholl, Miss Thompson and Miss Cole

Hello Year 2,

Are you ready for another day of learning? Well done with all your efforts so far this week – we have been very impressed with the learning you have been sending in. Keep it coming! We have shared lots of stories lately about the importance of valuing each other and being kind. Why do you think this topic is so important? What would the world be like if everyone was kind? This book is called Kind, and is about the ways we can be kind to others. The book itself is also kind, as it was written to help raise money for charity. English: Gregory Cool by Caroline Binch

Today we are going to think in more depth about the characters from the story. Choose at least one of these tasks to complete:

1. Draw a picture of your favourite character. Surround the picture with words and phrases that describe that character’s appearance, personality and feelings throughout the story.

2. Split your page in half or use a double page spread. In one half, draw Gregory, and in the other half, draw Lennox. Then annotate your pictures with words and phrases that describe each of the characters’ appearance, characteristics, interests, skills and likes. What are the similarities and differences between Gregory and Lennox?

3. Use words, pictures and emojis to map Gregory’s emotional journey throughout the story on a ‘character S’ (draw one out using the guide).

Maths – Measuring Temperature We measure temperature in the unit ‘degrees Celsius’, which is written like this: °C Phew! The temperature in Tobago today is 29°C - that is hot! The higher the temperature, the warmer it is!

Look at the temperature in these different countries around the world. Can you say what the temperature is in each country using the unit °C? Which country is the hottest and which is the coldest?

We measure temperature using a thermometer. If the temperature increases the level on the scale will rise. If the temperature decreases the level on the scale will fall.

Draw your own thermometers and record the temperature of the countries above on each one. You could research the temperature in other countries and record these on thermometers too. Draw the scale on the thermometer carefully. Look at these thermometers to help you. Are the numbers written on the scale at intervals of 2, 5 or 10? Which will be the best scale for your thermometer?

Topic – Design and Technology When Gregory first arrives in Tobago he thinks the sun is too hot. What should he wear to keep cool? Today you are going to design some clothes for Gregory to keep him cool in the heat. Tomorrow you will use recycled materials to create your piece of clothing for Gregory. You could use old newspaper, magazines, cardboard boxes, old clothes or any other material you can find. Today, think about what item of clothing you would like to make – perhaps a cap to shade his face or sunglasses to protect his eyes from the sun. Which materials will you use? How will you shape and join your materials? Maybe you will use tape or glue or if you don’t have these you can be creative with folding, twisting and weaving your materials. Draw your design and label the materials and tools you are going to use. Write some instructions for how to make your item of clothing.
