This one is written by Lodro Rinzler, author of the bestselling book, The Buddha Walks into a Bar. One meditation technique you can use at your desk: Set a timer on your phone sound on the hour. When you hear it, look away from your computer and across the room or out a window. Place your attention on your breath. Yes, money can buy happiness ...if you spend it on experiences You won't find happiness at the mall in the form of a huge new TV or in the department store in the form of new clothes or a fancy coffee pot. They will not increase your overall happiness. Spending money on experiences maximizes happiness, says Michael Norton, an associate professor at Harvard Business School and co-author of Happy Money: The Science of Smarter Spending. * According to research published in Health magazine, people who spent money on concert tickets or planned dinner out were happier than those who spent money on tangible goods. One reason: they get more pleasure from bonding. The pleasure begins as you anticipate the event, which can be as valuable as the event itself. Afterward, recalling it will continue to give you pleasure in the following weeks or months. Even if the event doesn't turn out to be as nice as you thought it would, it still counts. People tend to remember things as better than they actually were. * Don't worry about self-improvement. Take pleasure in what's already good about yourself. At the University of Zurich, they say identifying your strong suits is better. Think about your top five strengths in your relationships at the office and in your home, and you’ll experience more happiness. * Enjoy the pleasure of giving. Giving to charities will make you feel good about yourself, but Dr. Norton's research finds that doing things for people you know makes you happiest. 1 tablespoon kosher salt1 1/2 teaspoons freshlyground black pepper2 cups chopped yellowonions (about 2 onions)6 garlic cloves, minced2 tablespoons unsaltedbutter1/4 teaspoon crushed redpepper flakes1 (28-ounce) canned plumtomatoes, with the juice4 cups fresh basil leaves,packed1 teaspoon fresh thymeleaves1 quart chicken stock orwater Preheat the oven to 400degrees F. Toss together the tomatoes,1/4 cup olive oil, salt, andpepper. Spread thetomatoes in 1 layer on abaking sheet and roast for45 minutes. In an 8-quart stockpot overmedium heat, sauté theonions and garlic with 2tablespoons of olive oil,the butter, and red pepperflakes for 10 minutes, untilthe onions start to brown. Add the canned tomatoes,basil, thyme, and chickenstock. Add theoven-roasted tomatoes,including the liquid on thebaking sheet. Bring to aboil and simmer uncoveredfor 40 minutes.

* At least three weekly servings of fatty fish such as salmon, tunaor sardines.* A "sofrito": tomatoes, onion, garlic and aromatic herbssimmered in olive oil at least twice a week.* Wine with dinner if you drink. Cut down on fatty red meat and processed meat, commercialbaked goods, fatty spreads and soda drinks. Also, eat fourtablespoons of olive oil each day in salads and vegetables or anounce of walnuts, almonds or hazelnuts. Know the signs of heat exhaustion, heat stroke Exposure to excessive heat can cause the body to lose its ability tocool. Your temperature can reach 104 degrees or higher in 10 to15 minutes. The symptoms of heat exhaustion include profuse sweating,muscle cramps, intense thirst, dizziness, nausea, fatigue andheadache. If you experience any of these, drink plenty of water orother cool nonalcoholic fluids, and get to a cool or shady place. If symptoms don't improve, or if you have any of these heatstroke symptoms, seek immediate emergency medical attention.Symptoms include: hot dry skin, often with no sweat, a rapidpulse, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, a throbbing headache andtrouble breathing. Heat stroke affects the brain, so the person may be confused, oragitated. If not treated promptly, heatstroke can lead to seizures,coma and death. Reducing abdominal fat A recent Canadian-American study done at Penn State Universityhas found that canola and high-oleic canola oil, helps lowerabdominal fat, a marker of metabolic syndrome. The study included participants who were fed a daily smoothiecontaining 1.42 ounces of one of five oils in a 2,000-calorie-a-daydiet over four weeks. If you're pressured to hurry up, slow down! Inparticular, when making a decision for another person, be surethat they are part of the process. * Keep the big picture in mind. Always try to make sure it is awin-win situation. Big decisions can have a lasting impact on your life and yourbusiness. It makes sense to do your research before making them.
