16 Hepatic artery chemoembolisation -a new approach for metastatic GI leiomyosarcoma 'Regional chemoemboli .. ation-infusion for gastrointestinal leiomyosarcoma metastatic to the liver seems to offer significant palliation to a subset of sarcoma patients ,.,hose tumors are characterised by resistance to systemic chemotherapy and a poor prognosis. ' Two patients with leiomyosarcoma and liver metastases in the jejunum and stomach, respectively, received chemoembolisation- infusion with cisplatin and vinblastine to I liver lobe. The remaining liver lobe was treated about I month later. The first patient, a 49-year-old man, showed dramatic tumour regression after 2 months which continued for a further 9 months without further treatment. 18 months' remission was followed by hepatic tumour progression. The second patient, a 68-year-old man, experienced massive liquefaction of the tumour after treatment. Six months after the second procedure, there was dramatic resolution of the leison in the right lobe and residual disease in the left lobe. Tumour progression was noted after 5 months. Mavligit GM.
