The Honors Engineering Principles and Applications course is designed to correlate with honors
Chemistry and / or Geometry. EPA Honors promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM) based initiatives to help students make real world connections in math and science. THEME: The occurrence of natural or man mad
disaster in a populated area is the scenario for the strand which will wind its way through the course.
Students will apply engineering design and development prototype models to solve a variety of
real world problems.
GT Engineering Concepts course is designed to correlate with Physics.
EPA GT promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based initiatives that help students make real world
connections in math and science. The course utilizes engineering challenges to
apply engineering concepts studied in the class. Areas of focus include design, electronics,
robotics, aerospace, and civil engineering. Major projects = Robotics, Mouse Trap Vehicles
Advanced Design Applications consists of four units including Manufacturing,
Energy / Power, Construction and Transportation. This is a ‘hands on’ class in which students use CAD to design an alternative energy house then create a model of the house as well as construct prototype models to solve engineering challenge
problems.
In Advanced Technological Applications, students study four components of the Designed
World, including Information Technology, Agriculture / Bio-related Technologies, Medical,
and Entertainment/Recreation. Students create ‘public service announcements’ to demonstrate focusing on Medical, Agriculture
and Bio-related Technologies.
TV and Radio ProductionEPA and ATA recommended prerequisitesStudents study methods of mass media
production as they create their own videos. All areas of television production are
emphasized including script writing, camera work, editing and directing.
Engineering Design and Research focus on how engineers apply their creativity,
resourcefulness, mathematical, scientific, and technical knowledge
and skills in the creation or refinement of technological
products/systems. Major project = Alternative Energy Vehicles & Rockets – Team America Rocket Challenge
Develop a rocket to launch an uncooked egg 700 feet in air, deploy recovering system to safely land egg as close to 45 seconds as possible.
