Welcome! We are excited to bring this event to you-for the 33rd year, and as always we offer you free admission, park-ing and shuttle service! This guide provides you with in-formation and festival highlights that you can come back to throughout the weekend to make sure you don’t miss a thing. And of course, our Facebook and @herndonfesti-val twitter feed will provide real time updates on excit-ing happenings and events throughout the weekend.

Things will be happening all weekend in the business expo on Pine Street. Wander up and see what the buzz is about Mellow Mushroom, or drop by and say hi to the dj’s broadcasting from the festival.

The complete entertainment schedule begins on page 8, but here are a couple notes. The Rising Star and Amp’d up performances remain out front on the Town Hall Green at the Depot Stage all day Saturday and Sunday. The Town Hall Green also features our part-ners VW and their dynamic displays, face painter and special guests. The evening features headline acts on the Depot and HMC stages, including a highly anticipated show Sunday afternoon by the Atlanta Rhythm Section.

Children’s Hands on Art activities, a kids’ performance area and other fun activities are all part of Kids’ Alley (across from The Breeze). The strolling entertainers and character guests were a hit last year. And yes, the Monkey Man and Django will be back!

So you got separated from your friends… and.. your cell phone died. No charger? No problem, just head over to our free cell phone charging station under the tent next to Town Hall. Take a few moments to relax and recharge, then post those status updates on Facebook, Tweet your favorite bands pictures, and feel free to play Draw Something while you’re waiting.

Delicious festival foods are available throughout the site, including up and down Lynn St, in the Café Stage Food Court and on Station St near the carnival. For a cold brew, or a glass of wine, visit one of our civic groups - the Council for the Arts in the Café Food court, Opti-mists near the HMC lawn entrance and the Rotary at the corner of Lynn and Station Streets.

This year at the Herndon Festival:Please take time to thank our sponsors, including title sponsor, VW, newcomer Griffin-Owens Insurance, and longtime supporters COX, Northwest Federal Credit Union, and TD Bank.

LONGREEFHMC Stage 7:30 - 9:30 PMLike Crocodile Dundee, or bands like AC/DC and INXS before them, the members of LONGREEF have come from down under to conquer the USA. Having relocated to America from their native city of Sydney over two years ago, the band has taken to their adopted land by storm, tirelessly tour-ing around the country and playing with acts such as Seether, Five Finger Death Punch, Gary Allan, Puddle of Mudd and Serj Tankien. The first single, “Lonely” was released to radio and reached #33 on Billboard’s R&R Indicator chart. Although they began to draw interest from labels, with Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger among their high profile fans, they chose to forego the offers and remain independent believing that retaining the creative control has made the band so much closer. LONGREEF are here to stay, and they’re coming to Herndon on May 30 on the HMC!

Trio Caliente and FriendsDepot Stage 7:30 - 9:30 PMTrio Caliente’s inimitable blend of Flamenco, Pop, and Brazilian Jazz has been enjoyed by political luminaries stateside and abroad; notable Fortune 500 companies; and ven-erated international organizations, festivals, and concert venues around the world. Known for throbbing rhythms that keep the dance floor packed all night long, Washing-ton, DC-based Trio Caliente’s vocals, in Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and English are set to a wide array of Latin grooves with a flavor all their own. Trio Caliente’s musicians have performed from coast to coast throughout the U.S. and in Spain, South America, Central America, and the Middle East. After their performance was washed out last year, Trio Caliente will grace the Depot Stage this year on Thursday Night!

FRIDAY, MAY 31Midnight MoversHMC Stage 7:30pm - 9:30pmThere are arguably no continuously working groups more intertwined with American soul music than Midnight Movers. Like the “Funk Brothers”, the collective of musicians who played on all the recording sessions at Motown Records, the Midnight Movers made their mark behind the scenes, backing up, touring with, producing, and arranging many of the genre’s most famous artists. You’ve heard the famous wah pedal guitar work of original member Charles “Skip” Pitts on Isaac Hayes’ “Theme to Shaft,” as well as dynamic trumpeter and vocalist Curtis Pope’s signature horn lines on the Isley Brothers cross-over hit, “It’s Your Thing.” The band produced legendary Stax vocal duo, Sam & Dave, and its members have recorded with countless groups in all the major centers of American Soul music--Detroit, New York, Memphis, and Muscle Shoals--receiving national acceptance in an era marked by distinct regional sounds.

The band is perhaps most famous, however, for its decades-long collabora-tion with “Wicked” Wilson Pickett. It was on the road with Pickett that the band perfected its compelling stage show with high-stepping choreography, seamless medleys, and playful approach to performance. Wilson Pickett’s famous song, “I’m a Midnight Mover” was the inspiration for the band’s name--a name under which the band released two full-length records of their own--’Follow the Wind’ (1964) and ‘Do it in the Road’ (1970). “Wilson Pickett and the Midnight Mov-ers” performed all over the world until 1997, when the Movers struck out on their own. Since then, the Movers have continued to hone their reputation as the best live soul band in the world playing outdoor festivals, weddings, corporate events, and private engagements of all kinds. Come hear the legendary sound of Motor City on the HMC Stage on Friday!

FRIDAY, MAY 31Occidental GypsyDepot Stage 7:30pm - 8:10pm

Occidental Gypsy is a quartet of musicians who have developed a unique genre of Gypsy Pop, a new take on an old favorite. The improvisation and arrangement of their music harkens back to the spirit of the European purveyors of gypsy swing, yet they artfully utilize western (i.e. Occidental) themes to produce a fresh, yet timeless sound. A reminiscence for older listeners and an introduction to the “under 30” crowd of a foreign, yet familiar sound. Their Depot Stage set starts at 7:30pm.

Caravan of ThievesDepot Stage 8:30pm - 9:30pm

Caravan of Thieves’ driving gypsy jazz rhythms, acoustic guitars, upright bass and violin lay the foundation for mesmerizing vocal harmonies and fantastic stories. It’s theatrical and humorous. It’s musical and intense. It en-tertains, dazzles and defies classification while welcoming the spectator to join the band throughout the performance in momentary fits of claps, snaps and sing-alongs. Don’t miss this exciting group at 8:30pm on the Depot Stage.

Wild Adriatic is a band of four friends carrying the torch of timeless rock’n roll infused with tons of soul, captivating guitar work, and an impressive live show. The Saratoga Springs, NY outfit released their latest EP “Lock & Key” in April 2012 and immediately picked back up with their relentless performance schedule throughout the East Coast. A series of quirky music videos and a humble, eager-

to-connect-with-people mindset has quickly brought the band positive attention from music lovers, press, and industry heads alike. SUNDAY JUNE 2Green Light at the EndHMC Stage 3:00pm - 3:50pm

This Ashburn, VA based rock group emerged onto the DC Metro music scene in early 2009 initially as “the Resistance” with four

seasoned musicians bringing together a differ-ent, yet powerful mix of musical styles. They have built a loyal following and have been compared to bands such as Death Cab for Cutie, Brand New, Civil Twilight and Nada Surf. They are described as having a smooth indie rock sound with a bit of guts and elements of Shoegaze that combine older and newer rock forms into an engaging mix. Lead singer Chris Goodin’s emotional and thought-felt lyrics elegantly garnish the melodic undertones and warm texture of the guitars that are anchored by a thumping, yet rich rhythm section. Check out Green Light at the End on the HMC on Sunday afternoon!
