Marriage in France
In France, young people can marry even if their parents do not agree.
You can get married before you are 18 if there are serious reasons (such as
pregnancy).
● Even if you get married in church, you have to be married by the Lord Mayor of
your town.
Your marriage is then legal.
● Now in France you can also marry someone of the same sex.
We call it « the law of marriage for eveybody».
Catholic marriage
A traditional marriage → Guests normally are close friends and family of the couple.
→ On the wedding day, the bride and groom can not be together before the ceremony.
→ The Bride enters the church with her father,. If, for any reason, he is not present, he can be replaced by the godfather or step-father.
→ The bride and the bride groom have two witnesses, a woman and a man
→ At the end of the ceremony we throw rice or petals on the newly-weds.
→ Then people take pictures, and then head to the restaurant.
→ After eating, the couple must dance the waltz. Then, the dance can begin.
→ At the end of the evening, we eat the wedding cake, usually, ther are two doll shapes on top of the cake.
→ They drink champagne.
→ A few days later , they go on a "honeymoon".
