PRESIDENT’S CORNER

By Tom Martin

This year is flying by……….

It’s already September, summer won’t go away with temperatures sll forecast in the 90’s. And the Real

Estate is hot with hangars changing owners and new planes on the field including a Cirrus 20, Cessna 150,

and a cool looking 1947 Champ that is burning holes in the wind trying to get the new owners tail wheel

endorsements.

With all the acvity “everyone” needs to reach out to help with things that we may take for granted. Our

Flappings newsle/er has plenty of email addresses and phone numbers that could be very helpful – we

just need to pass the word about the informaon and that it can be found at T67.org. And a reminder

about our by-laws, any new construcon projects must be approved by the Architectural Control Com-

mi/ee before work begins!! If you have any doubts or concerns please contact any board member for

details.

We need to connue to focus on safety sharing the taxiways with vehicles and aircra7 and observing the

posted speed limit of 15mph.

September 14th social get together is right on top of us – we can always use a li/le help pu8ng these

together and making sure everyone has a good me. This social event will include special guests, Mr. Mike

O’Brien and his daughter Mary who were deeply involved in the early days of Hicks Airfield. Mr. O’Brien

has wri/en a book “Legacy of an Airfield” and will make a presentaon to the HAPA Board of the first

book off the press at our monthly meeng on September 12th

and a/end the social on the 14th

and cele-

brate his 90th

birthday.

Please remember this is your airport and our monthly Board of Directors Meeng will be held at 7pm on

September 12 at the Beacon Café. Let your voice be heard and join us for the meeng.

Best Regards,

Tom Martin

HAPA NEEDS YOUR HELP! Over the years it seems that many of HAPA’s tables and chairs have wandered away from their home. We have one cart com-pletely empty! In the future we hope to have member’s events on the airport but we need our tables & chairs to provide seat-ing for our events! If you locate any strays, please call a Board member and we will return them to our storage.

August 8, 2013 HAPA Board Meeting Time: 7:00 PM Location: The Beacon Café

Members Present: Tom Martin, Roy Geer, Ted Kelso, Mike Reddick, Gene DeBullet, Rusty Morris

Not Present: Reb Stimson, Carol Moran - PMG

Opening Comments: President Tom Martin noted that

1. Tom reported than most of the septic fields are in pretty good shape. Three more grinder pumps were changed. Non-digestible items are still being found in the pumps, i.e. plastic, rubber, wood, etc. Please read the “do’s & don’ts in the August issue of Flappings. The Board is considering a contract with a local septic company to begin pumping all the septic fields on a monthly schedule throughout the year.

2. Tom also mentioned that Mike Olson & Bryan Martin will be looking at areas of our taxiways that need immediate rework for this Fall. Dollar amount has not bet firmly set for the Fall project.

3. Mike reported that the August issue of Flappings was delayed due to an internet issue caused by AT&T workers damaging some Uverse lines.

New Business

Gates: The North gates are broken again. The Board asked for help in identifying the involved parties who constantly vandalize the gate. Considering installing cameras to identify the vandals. South gate has been repaired and is working as usual.

PMG: In Carol’s absence, Tom noted that several long overdue outstanding dues have been collected. The monthly violations list is shrinking.

Financial: Mike advised that we have approximately $89,000 available in our Operating Fund that may enable us to do more taxiway & septic maintenance this Fall.

Social: HAPA is still looking for a Social Director to, with the Board’s help, plan for future social events for the membership and an occasional fly out. The next social is our Fall Social scheduled for Saturday, September 14 at 5pm. We need volunteer cooks to contact any Board member.

Tables & Chairs Cart: The cart’s tires have been filled with foam by Cowser Tires and we no longer have to worry about flat tires! At the last count, HAPA is still missing 15 tables and 60 chairs. Please return them (there was a discussion from the floor abou buying more.

907 Aviator Dr: Any discussion concerning the ammo manufacturing on premises was tabled

(August Minutes Continued) General Discussion:

Airport Safety: We have a unique airport where cars and aircraft share the taxiways. There have been a few close encountersnoted. Please remember that aircraft do not have reverse so they always have the right of way. It was suggested that we set up a “meet & greet” at the south gate on a weekend to pass out info to non-aviators to educate them. The Board is considering the proposal and would like to have STOP painted at cross-taxiways during the next striping operation this Fall.

T Hangar: HAPA currently rents a t-hangar on the north end to store various equipment and recently it has been hard to access after a rain. Bob Avery has a “high & dry” hangar for rent that the Board will consider moving to.

TSA: Mike Reddick recentily met with Mauda Chavex, a DFW area TSA Inspector. Before the meeting she visited Hicks on a weekend day and observed several traffic conflicts between cars and planes and noted our lack of secure fences along the east and west boundaries of the airport. She was specifically concerned about our open ramp and fueling facility where the general public had full access to. Since Hicks Airfield is a “private” airport with public access, her documents are only adivisory, not regulatory. Bulletin Board: If space is available, members can contact a Board member to have something posted on the HAPA bulletin board located at the mail box area. No permanent ads allowed and anything posted will be dated so the board can be kept current. Motion to adjourn: Ted Kelso 2nd: Rusty Morris Meeting adjourned at 7:43pm
