It also informs the fuel conditions of the operation status, easily detects abnormalities and oil change, thus comprehensively avoiding fuel loss as a result of bad professional ethnics.

Manage “maintenance” Through the monitoring and

analysis of the information and data on the operation, the system can generate and record an accurate and reasonable

maintenance program for each vehicle. According to the maintenance program, the onboard terminal of the G-BOS reminds the drivers of maintenance s ta tus , thus avoid ing improper maintenance, omission of maintenance and etc.

The G-BOS also functions remote fault alarm management, remote fault diagnosis and etc, monitoring the vehicle in operation in real time and providing the driver with a comprehensive understanding of the condition in operation. In case of an unexpected fault, the system will report to the dispatching platform via the data processing center to ensure rapid response of the surrounding services nodes and timely solution of the problems. Manage “bus selection”

T h e G - B O S c o l l e c t s t h e information and data on the operation of the bus, including driving speed, engine speed, whole vehicle operating load rate, intake air temperature, engine oil pressure, engine oil temperature, cooling water temperature, atmospheric pressure and etc, processes the data through the data processing center on a comprehens ive sca le , and provides diagnostics and optimization recommendations about the vehicle, facilitating the manager’s bus-line matching in a targeted manner for correct vehicle layout.

After installation of G-BOS, managers will be informed of the accurate information of the engine performance, and conduct an “operation” at the “heart” (engine) of the vehicle.

Higer Bus has signed strategic cooperation agreement with a number of engine manufacturers, according to which, the experts will re-adjust the

power train, including the engines and the gearboxes etc, to make the bus models more suitable for the operating lines. Open the door of upgrading of management transformation of passenger transport companies

B u s o p e r a t i n g c o m p a n i e s based on the platform of the G-BOS can fully utilize the information technology and network technology for the sake of achieving management innovation, reshaping of operations, t r a n s f o r m a t i o n o f c o m p a n i e s f rom indus t r i a l i zed companies to information-based companies, improving the service quality in the intense competition of passenger transport market, reducing the costs, improving capabilities of companies in making correct decisions, advancing the competitiveness and broadening the way of company transformation.

A customer who participated in the R&D and test run of the G-BOS says that the system employs the modern information technology t o h e l p o p e r a t o r s t o r e p l a c e experience-based management with sc ient i f ic management , replace static management with dynamic management, replace qualitative managemen t w i th quan t i t a t i ve management, replace process-based management with resul ts-based management, thus lowering the cost and increasing the revenue while maximizing the operating returns.

Hence, the G-BOS opens the door of upgrading of management transformation of passenger transport companies, a door of management, leading to intelligence, wealth and sustainable development.

G-BOS Might Trigger Revolution of Passenger Transport Management

G-Bos Topic

●By Lei Ming

A technology breakthrough is quietly generating sparks of industrial management upgrade. Based on the concept of G-BOS Earth in April this year, Higer Bus launched a “G-BOS(GPS, GIS, GPRS, BUS OPERATION

SYSTERM)”, which was the fi rst in the industry, following three series of ads:Why are you still confused about the safety in operation? Why are you still frustrated by parts fault? Why are you racking your brains for fuel saving? At the Shanghai Busworld Asia and the Beijing China Transpo in May, the

appearance of our Higer bus with G-BOS looked nothing different. The visitors asked, “How is it special?” The answer was finally unveiled on July 27, when the G-BOS was officially announced to be launched into the market at the “G-BOS Launching Ceremony” held in Shenzhen, jointly sponsored by Higer Bus and China Road Transport Association.

Three Traditional Diffi culties of Management

When fi rst involved in management research of passenger transport operators three years ago, Higer Bus found that “People • Buses • Lines” were the three cores in the management of passenger transport operators, which were also the three diffi culties in management. The First Diffi culty: “People”

Management is a diff icul ty mainly because the bus drivers may not be supervised in a timely and

proper manner, and the appraisal of the drivers may become subjective. In the paternalistic extensive management based on favoritism, the appraisal of the drivers will surely lose accuracy. The Second Diffi culty: “Buses”

The problem also exists in the management of buses. The actual operating conditions of the buses will be unknown to the drivers after leaving the stations. The information obtained in the traditional management methods is hysteretic and not necessarily true. The

indicator lights will be on when a fault is detected in self-test in the process of actual use and it is difficult for drivers to decide to move on or stop? Instead of solving problems, this actually creates a new problem in management.

I t i s a l s o t h e c a s e i n t h e maintenance. As technology advances, the maintenance time and period of various assemblies and parts are different. And it is a diffi cult problem in management to achieve rational, effi cient and economical maintenance.

T h e m a n a g e m e n t o f f u e l consumption is more complex. Many companies set fuel economy awards and set fuel-saving examples to increase fuel economy. But actually, this solution is a double-edged sword as this may result in extensive use of non-performing operations in order to achieve higher fuel economy. Although the fuel consumption is brought down, many security problems emerge and the maintenance cost increases as well. The Third Diffi culty: “Lines”

In actual operations, we often fi nd that the same company buys the same model of buses and uses them in three different lines. This will certainly result in three different operating costs, three different fuel consumptions and three different service lives. However, how to match the different buses with different lines? This must be based on actual road spectrum, and it is our highest priority to collect road spectrums in matching the buses with the lines.

The G-BOS Emerge Due to Demand

Based on the long-term cooperation with many passenger transport companies both at home and abroad and after in-depth research of the three traditional difficulties in management, Higer Bus finds that the traditional management method lacks a quantitative, dynamic and process-based management tool. In the operation with Scania, a globally-famous heavy truck company with the reputation of “Road King”, Higer Bus has been inspired and introduced the Telematics technology, which is actually an integration of wireless communication technology, satellite communication technology, network communication

technology and onboard computer. It is also combined with the CAN bus technology. Through three years of painstaking research and testing at the post-doctoral workstation, the G-BOS system with 20 patents and 2 copyrights, was fi nally introduced this year.

How does G-BOS Solve Diffi culties in Traditional ManagementA Lasting Solution for Standard Driving

A report from Europe shows that 62.69% of the traffic accidents are the results of improper driving. G-BOS can properly monitor and record the drivers’ bad driving behaviors, including speeding, idle coasting, hard acceleration/deceleration, engine overrunning, ABS action times, overtime driving and etc.

G-BOS can not only accurately record the various data at all time points, but also generate detailed reports, from which we can see the bad driving behavior(s), the duration and the degree of seriousness of the behavior(s) of a driver in a month or week.

Moreover, G-BOS also records long idle speed and the ratio of the driving range outside the economic speed of the engine. Based on the analysis of these data, each driver is given a comprehensive score which involves security and fuel-consumption behavior, etc. This score quantifies the management of drivers, making the appraisal objective. With this objective and quantitative data, the operators can properly arrange training of the drivers on security management, which will also provide a good basis for the recruitment examination of new drivers.

S y s t e m S o l u t i o n o f F u e l Consumption Management

Traditional fuel consumption management method involves cash and fuel. The traditional method involves fueling charge and the total mileage. This calculation is fairly rough with many disadvantages.

An evaluation report from Europe shows that fuel consumption will increase by 15% to 20% per hour when running 10 km at high speed; shifting outside the range of economic speed will lead to increasing fuel consumption by 15% and there is difference of more than 10% between hard acceleration and slow acceleration and between motion at variable speed and constant speed.

T h e m a n a g e m e n t o f f u e l consumption with G-BOS involves the following four aspects, driving behavior, driver’s awareness, professional ethics and the bus-line matching.

G - B O S m a n a g e s t h e f u e l consumption in a quantitative manner, which provides a management report of fuel consumption, including a target fuel consumption value and an ECU fuel consumption value. The target fuel consumption value is the target value of management set by the manager, and it should be generally achieved by the majority of the drivers. Through comparing the driving behaviors of the two types of drivers, i.e., those who have achieved the target and those who haven’t, the bad driving behaviors of the drivers leading to higher consumption can be reduced, and the target consumption can be achieved accordingly. When all the drivers have achieved the target, the manager can adjust the target value achieve fuel consumption management in

Page 23: Higer People

212011 FEB

Higer Takes You Higher! G-Bos Topic

the most economical and scientifi c manner. When the refueling data is input in

the G-BOS, a comparative report of fuel consumption will be generated, showcasing the difference between the ECU fuel consumption and the actual refueling value. If the difference is too large, the fuel may be lost in other ways, which involves the issue of professional ethics.Comprehensive Solution of Bus Maintenance Management

G-BOS records the various data in real time in the process of driving while transmitting the data to the server via 3G wireless network in a timely manner to achieve effective management of remote fault alarms so as to form a series of report tables, which clearly inform the driver of the operating conditions of the bus at any time and the needs for maintenance in advance.

G-BOS can also automatically generate constantly upgrading repair and maintenance plans. If too many buses are maintained on the same day, the manager may manually adjust the date of maintenance. If the interval of bus

maintenance and engine maintenance of the same bus is only two days, the system will automatically re-arrange the maintenances on the former day to avoid influence on the attendance rate of the bus caused by repeated entrance into the repair shop.

Optimization Solution of Bus-line Matching

As the t rad i t ional bus- l ine matching is not supported by accurate road spectrum data, the selection of bus models are not based on the specifi c road conditions, resulting in different types of waste, operating costs and service life.

G-BOS refines the bus-l ine matching by collecting the various data of the bus in a timely manner, including the running speed, engine speed, whole vehicle operating load rate, intake air temperature, engine oil pressure, engine oil temperature, cooling water temperature, atmospheric pressure and etc. And after a comprehensive analys is and assessment of the operation conditions of the bus by the

data processing center, the G-BOS provides comprehensive diagnosis and optimization recommendations to ensure more accurate bus-line matching.

G-BOS or Revolution of Passenger Transport Management

Transformation and upgrading are the hottest words in social and economic development in China, and all industries are making enormous efforts to transform and upgrade. G-BOS provides a new carrier for the management upgrading of passenger transport companies, or it will even lead to a revolution in the industry!

With G-BOS as a platform, bus operating companies can achieve management innovation through c o m p r e h e n s i v e a p p l i c a t i o n o f information technology and network technology, reshaping the operation and management systems, achieving transformation of industrialized companies to information-based companies, and ultimately improving service quality and reducing the costs of fi erce market competition in the fi eld of passenger transport, and enhancing the abilities of scientific decision-making and competitiveness. And there will be great potential for transformation of the companies.

G-BOS completely breaks the bottleneck of traditional operation means, achieves “G-BOS management, safe operation, high energy efficiency, long-lasting durability”. And its powerful G-BOS management features include management of driving safety, fuel consumption, repair and maintenance, remote fault alarm and bus-route matching.

manner. Both G-book or On star are capable of improving the convenience and driving safety to certain levels. And for commercial vehicle enterprises, Telematics has gradually attracted their attraction. Since G-BOS(GPS, GIS, GPRS, BUS OPERATION SYSTERM) in Higer bus launched in July this year, it enables managers to be informed of the operational status of the vehicles without leaving offices, including such information as their positions, engine speeds and so on. Furthermore, the system can also make comprehensive assessment of the driver, which helps

As people’s pursuit of the wireless communication technology grows, Telematics

is no longer strange to us, and the onboard computer system, adopting the wireless communication technology, has become most popular among tens of thousands of families.

In the field of passenger vehicle, Toyota’s G-book and General Motors’ On star are popular in terms of Telematics technologies. This advanced technology integrates the driver, the vehicle and the social information networks in an organized and efficient

fundamentally improves the driver’s driving ability and stimulates the driver’s potential, and enhances the level of safety in operation.

Standard Driving Operations and High Fuel Effi ciency

The model for test drive is the H92 bus equipped with Yuchai YC6L330-42, featuring unique equipment of G-BOS. Once started, the G-BOS terminal will showcase the basic information of the operating conditions. Meanwhile, it collects 10 types of working information of the engine, 9 types of working information of the driving operation, and 7 types of working information of vehicle traveling. The 26 types of information support the operation platform for the software. Honestly speaking, you may feel uneasy when you first contact the G-BOS Edition H92 as every of your moves will be monitored. The system can monitor the improper driving operations of the driver, such as speeding, idle coasting, high-speed rotation of the engine, overtime driving and etc, and eventually form a report. This will help the operating company well informed of the operating conditions of the buses, which can help the driver develop good

driving awareness and ethics, improve the driving habits and save fuel.

When the air conditioner is turned on, H92 maintains a low idle speed at 710r/min while producing low noises. It is worth mentioning that a foot pedal is arranged in front of the accelerator to rest the right foot in order to relieve the fatigue during driving. In the process of acceleration, I steps on the acceleration pedal deliberately to properly control the speed and change the shift. As H92 well matches the bus, the upshift at even low speed can maintain a steady power output. When the speed is increased to 80km/h and the gearbox is set at the highest position, the speed is about 1200r/min, when at 100km/h, the speed was just over the green zone, the cross-city bus will have more excellent economic performance.

Maintenance Management Based on Detailed Records

As a comprehensive management system, G-BOS also records operation conditions of the key components to facilitate maintenance management. Usually, one of the personnel, according to the scheduling and operation conditions, works out the days after the vehicle needs to be maintained. This will result in waste, as the components are used within a certain mileage, but the specific times that the components can be used are unknown. But G-BOS is able to record the operation conditions of the components. If a certain component has been used for too many times for replacement accordingly, the fault conditions can be dealt with in advance. In this way, the trip generation can be enhanced and the number of faults can be reduced, so the vehicle may be maintained in intact condition.

G-BOS is an innovative creation of the industry, also an important tool to implement the “Bus Full Life Cycle” concept, which Higer Bus has been actively practicing. Higer Bus will probably launch more management tools to help the operators to achieve maximum benefi ts in the future.

HIGER’s Services in Two Successive Asian Games

Four years later, Higer Bus was looking forward to the Guangzhou Asian Games. Higer Bus had made remitting efforts for the Asian Games, and more than 1000 Higer buses provided services at the Asian Games and re-ignite the passion of Higer for the Asian Games.

On the days of the opening and closing ceremonies, Higer’s Asian Games service coordination team was moved close to the site of the opening ceremony to give on-site commands. According to Ding Hui, general coordinator at the site, more than 300 Higer buses were involved in the opening ceremony for transport services, and the service objects included VIPs, athletes and accompanying offi cials, technical offi cials and media at the Asian Games. The reporter saw at the site that Higer buses were very distinctive from other ordinary ones, as the bodies of Higer buses were printed with the Asian Games elements, such as “Five Rams”, “Sacred Flame”, “Guangzhou 2010”, etc., which not only were visually striking and highly distinctive, but also matched with the delightful atmosphere of the Asian Games.

In fact, the transport services of the opening ceremony started early in the morning of November 12. From 6 a.m. that day, more than 30 Higer buses were put into service to carry the security personnel responsible for the opening ceremony. And Higer buses were also responsible for the onsite commanding

Due to the large number of participants and the great social impact of the opening ceremony, transport security has also become a huge project. In order to guarantee the traffic services at the opening ceremony, the service personnel of a number of bus manufacturers and bus operating companies, including Higer Bus, devoted their wisdom and labor.

Higer Bus Turned up in the Asian Games Again

Four years ago, Chinese buses, Higer Bus in particular, became famous when 500 Higer buses provided perfect services at the fifteenth Doha Asian Games.

● By Wu Zhongqin

The opening ceremony of Guangzhou Asian Games, a common festival for 4 billion

people, was held on November 12. With the Pearl River as the stage and the city as the background, the fantastic sight of Haixinsha Island, an unknown island, caught the eyes of billions of people. On that sleepless night in Guangzhou, the City of Flowers, the whole world was cheering and the sacred flame was lighting up Asia.

At the gorgeous ceremony, nearly 100,000 patrolling policemen and over 100,000 security volunteers were protecting more than 10,000 athletes, coaches and sports officials, and over 30,000 spectators.

and evacuation of the traffi c at the sports ground and on the surrounding roads, parking of vehicles and security work.

According to Ding Hui, no parking space was available for individual cars at the site of the opening ceremony. Therefore, the Organizing Committee had more than 20 Higer buses nearby be ready for service at any time to complete the unexpected tasks of transport, in order to ensure quick and convenient departure of the personnel attending the opening ceremony from the Haixinsha Island.

Our Services Were Praised by the Delegations of Diplomats to China

On November 12, the Guangdong Golden Horse Travel Motors, Co., Ltd. was assigned the important task of transporting delegations of diplomats to China. In order to ensure the safe and effi cient transport, the company sent three newly-purchased Higer 6125 buses to perform this security task. The driver of the delegation bus No.1 told the reporter that he was a little nervous as it was his fi rst time to transport the diplomats from

more than 20 countries. But he kept smiling at the diplomats and their wives while they were getting on the bus, and later he felt relaxed. He heard from an offi cial of the Foreign Affairs Offi ce that the ambassadors of Vietnam, Pakistan, etc., said that China’s automotive industry was developing very fast.

The driver of the delegation bus No.2 told the reporter that the diplomats of Indonesia, Nepal, etc., took pictures on his Higer bus and thumbed up at the time of leaving.

Volunteers Used the Higer Buses as Mobile Lounges

ON November 13, in a fixed-line Higer bus in the Asian Games Village, a volunteer from Wuhan told the reporter that the buses were mobile lounges for them. The work of the volunteers was actually very painstaking. On the day of the opening ceremony, the volunteer soon fell asleep involuntarily on the bus when he was on the way back due to excessive fatigue.

A volunteer from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies told the

reporter that she was an on-bus volunteer to provide services on a fixed-line bus. The Higer bus, which was her work place, was equipped with an LED screen and an on-board TV, which could broadcast information about the Games. Therefore, taking the Higer bus was very enjoyable and she liked Higer bus very much.

Bus Drivers Could Only “Listen” to the Opening Ceremony

As most of the athletes from different countries attending the opening ceremony and the volunteers on the Haixinsha Island needed bus services, the transport tasks were very arduous. Mr. Zhou, a driver to transport the athletes, told the reporter proudly that he was very lucky to serve the athletes at the opening ceremony and he never felt tired. The bus was his work place, so he couldn’t see the ceremony although it was going on near him. For most of the time, he was listening to the opening ceremony over the radio on the bus.

Ding Hui said that Higer’s good performance at the opening ceremony of the Asian Games was just a beginning. And the service teams of Higer Bus must ensure zero-fault safe operation as required by the Organizing Committee of the Asian Games. On completion of the transport tasks, he must designate and organize the service personnel to check the buses every night, which was directly related to the normal operation of various sports events. Therefore, he was under great pressure.

After the Beijing Olympic Games and the Doha Asian Games, we surely believe that Higer Bus will once again successfully complete the glorious mission of transport services at the international sports events.

G-BOS Buses Serving Guangzhou Asian Games● By Wu Zhongqin

Co., Ltd. was under great pressure of transport these days, and the buses were almost running at full capacity. In particular, he praised Higer’s after-sales services and told me that Higer’s service manager and his men had just come to check the buses and found that they were in good conditions.

In fact, the G-BOS buses had been in service at the stage of the preparations for the Asian Games. And two Higer G-BOS buses had provided transport services for etiquette volunteers who were called “Angel of the Asian Games” in Guangzhou City two months ago.

If the competition of the Asian Games was a contest of speed and strength, the Asian University Presidents Forum held in Guangzhou at the same time was collision of the intelligence of scholars.

According to the arrangement of the Organizing Committee, Guangdong CITS designated 5 Higer buses to provide full-range services, from the opening ceremony of the Asian Games to the Forum for presidents of more than 30 universities from over 20 countries and regions in Asia and of nearly 50 universities in China.

The Forum provided a platform for exchanging wisdom for the Asian Games and the G-BOS developed by Higer created a new record of Chinese G-BOS bus services for the Asian Games.

If there are not enough G-BOS buses, he would at least designate one as the leader of the fl eet.

As to the reason for doing so, Mr. Wang Jiansen said that the Higer G-BOS allowed him to monitor the operation of the fl eet without leaving his offi ce. Even in case of any failure, the system could automatically raise the alarm and they could handle the problem immediately. This function was extremely important to ensure the successful completion of their tasks and achieve perfect services at the Asian Games.

According to Wang Jiansen, the South Lake Provincial Tourism Transport

G-BOS Buses in Asian Games

More than 80 G-BOS buses were put into service during the Guangzhou Asian Games. And this is the first time that G-BOS buses have served an Asian Games.

On November 17, Mr. Wang Jiansen, the manager of the South Lake Provincial Tourism Transport Co., Ltd. who is responsible for vehicle scheduling, told the reporter that his company arranged more than 50 Higer buses for the Asian Games services. He preferred sending G-BOS buses, if available, when he was assigning tasks.

period, China will adopt a transition strategy and a transformation strategy for the overall development of the automotive industry. In the next 5-10 years or even a longer period of time, China will adopt a strategy of developing simultaneously internal combustion engine vehicles and new energy vehicles. On the one hand, it will further optimize the existing automobile energy power system and develop energy-efficient internal combustion engine vehicles. On the other hand, it will develop a new generation of automobile energy power system and new energy vehicles. And the development of these two will support each other.

Therefore , the new energy vehicle industry merits attention. The development of OEM is a key link in the industrial chain of the new energy vehicle industry. As new energy vehicles become more and more popular, how can a bus manufacturer survive and prosper

During the Twelfth Five-Year P lan (2011-2015) p e r i o d , C h i n a ’ s n e w

energy automobiles will enter the industrialization stage of development. Industrialization of China’s new energy automobile is expected to develop in the following three steps:

The fi rst step is from 2008 to 2010, during which period demonstrative operation is done in public services in major cities;

The second step is from 2011 to 2015, the initial stage of industrialization, when new energy city buses, hybrid buses and small electric buses will be promoted in the whole country;

The third step is from 2016 to 2020, the stage of further introducing new energy vehicles, multi-energy hybrid vehicles, plug-in electric buses and hydrogen fuel cell buses into common households.

During the Twelfth Five-Year Plan

can be regarded as the model of front-line bus companies. First, its R & D of new energy buses has developed from simplicity to sophistication, has integrated production, teaching and research, and has gradually transited to self-development. From 2008 to 2010, Higer Bus has been working closely with many research institutions and key system distributors, such as Shanghai Jiaotong University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Yuchai, etc., to develop electric drive systems and vehicle control systems.

Second, recognizing the importance of mastering the core technology of controller is the key for sustainable development in strategy of new energy vehicles. To this end, Higer Bus set up a new energy electric control system company in early 2010, which included 12 teams led by 3 doctors and was

involved in R&D and improvement of vehicle control systems.

Thi rd , there i s a lways one suitable among a variety of technical routes. Since the second half of 2010, Higer Bus has stepped up efforts in the promotion of new energy sources. By the end of 2010, it had developed various types of prototype products, such as combined hybrid power, AMT hybrid power, plug-in hybrid power and pure electric, etc.

Fourth, Higer Bus gives full play to the technical strength and financial strength of being the first-line bus enterprises, extending the industrial chain to create more growth points. When the functions of hybrid vehicle controller and pure electric controller are improved, Higer Bus will further extend the industrial chain and develop drive motor system.

The route of the new energy buses of Higer Bus is characterized by “integrated innovation”. The “integrated innovation” does not necessarily mean that the company has to produce each of the key parts, it actually means integration and optimization of the internal and external resources and optimize the bus-line matching based on the self-developed electronic control systems to develop the best new energy vehicles. This development model is also adopted by many other first-line enterprises with strong technological strength.

It can be expected that the bus companies will face severe competition with the coming tide of new energy sources. And only those companies that persist in self-development, integrated innovation and sustainable development can survive and prosper.

anticipate and puzzle faces that moment. After got some general information, we dressed our uniform and look into the problem, after some routine checking, Mr. William smiled to me and said, “Not a big problem, but we need some fuses and wiring.” In some minutes, one mechanic brought the materials that we need, and then I told them, “Don’t worry, it’s a snap!” the driver and mechanics watch around Mr. William and tried to give him some help. No more than half an hour, Mr. William got off the bus and told me, the work was done. When I told the driver this good news, his was surprised and said: “It’s amazing! You are so effi cient, I have been waiting here for 3 days, and they can’t solve my problem, but you guys only spent half an hour on it, Thank you! Thank you very much!!” then he got on bus and tested the bus with us. “Very Good!” after testing, the driver told us he was very happy, he had never imaged Chinese specialists would help him with the problem, and he would

like to take some photos with us. After the driver drove away happily

with his bus, we told the mechanics the cause of problem and trouble shooting procedural. Some minutes later, Mr. Omid took us to dinner. During the dinner he said, there are a lot of thermal springs in Ardabil. After dinner we decided to enjoy the thermal spring.

The thermal spring in Iran is like bathhouse in China. There are hundreds of people swimming in the centre pool, and on the higher place around the big swimming pool, there are 6 small tubs under different temperature. Every tub can accommodate 5-6 persons. After swimming for 10 minutes, we felt a little tired and sat inside the tub, closed eyes and enjoy the moment that surrounds by sulfurous warm water.

It’s a wonderful night, after solved the problem successfully, with the achievement feeling, for the fi rst time, we enjoyed the thermal spring with friends, it’s a happy thing to me.

Wo r k i n g a b r o a d i s a wonderful thing. There are a lot of interesting stories

in my overseas life, working, tour, friends and trouble shooting….there was one very impressive night in Ardabil, there we went through an unusual but fantastic night.

Mr. William (Xie Zhonghe) and I worked together for nearly 7 months in Iran. In this late April, the service station in Ardabil reported a problem. One ZF gearbox couldn’t change gear normally, mechanics in the local service station tried to solve this problem for nearly one week, but the problem still remained. Finally they asked us for help.

After received the claim, Mr. Omid (Service engineer in head office), Mr. William, and I took some parts and went to Ardabil rapidly. After three hours’ driving, we reached Ardabil, the local time is about 5 pm. The driver and some mechanics had already waiting for us besides the problem bus. We could see

the HIGER solely authorized service station, announced that they would quit cooperation because of high service pressure, inadequate spare parts and insufficient manpower of mechanics and electricians. Transport Authority officers kept calling me for solutions to technical problems and service ability improvement of buses to meet public transport provision, otherwise threatened that outstanding performance bond would not be released unless complaints were settled.

Immediately, we established a special service team in Addis and began to investigate. We collected all items of failure parts on site, took photos of evidence, interviewed bus owners and drivers. What we discovered was that careless driving, inappropriate maintenance and bad road conditions as well as bus inadaptable design were the main causes that resulted in such adverse circumstances of HIGER. We service team then wrote a special report

in a harmonious way, carbon copied to all relevant parties, organized various round-tables meetings, indicated great efforts HIGER had contributed and made further decisions of a big-scale-check-and-repair program setup, 100,000USD spare parts supply, one more highly-effi cient service station establishment and free technical upgrade for 500 HIGER buses. To save HIGER in dilemma, these actions were warmly welcomed and fully supported by both Ethiopians and HIGER’s management. Bus owners were smiling and local government expressed positive attitude towards improvement and above all, performance bond were released before we left Ethiopia in May 2009.

It was great pleasure to demonstrate HIGER service team spirit and win HIGER’s reputation in East Africa market. We strongly believe that, with our effort from both sales and after-sales, HIGER buses will surely running all over the land of Africa in the near future!

Should it be a huge impact on HIGER overseas development, we would never forget the

case happened back in Addis Ababa (hereinafter “Addis”), Ethiopia.

There were 500 HIGER buses there and it was said that their performance had not lived up to expectations since the first one was sold in January 2008. Assigned but pressurized and upset, I was the third fi eld service engineer when arriving in January 2009. Not only I have to clean up previous service dispute but I was facing a more challenging and complicated situation.

“Due to wrong design, unfit and un-agreed parts, poor manufacturing, HIGER buses were mostly broken down and stopped awaiting spare parts. Owners are crying for disable to pay bank loan…” local media reported; Bus owners had established a legal committee to gain rights and even showed a will of strike to demonstrate doubts on Ethiopia Transport Authority’s scandals; WIBSE,

Higer vehicles were running in good conditions in the local area and could meet the demand for passenger transport. As this customer was 1400km away from Manila, Higer Bus barely provided it with any service, and the service station never applied for any maintenance from our company and all the maintenance problems were solved by themselves. Therefore, we introduced the new bus warranty our company and recommended them to repair and maintain the buses in accordance with the warranty.

We met Mr. Badan Hage, the boss of SUPER FIVE, at the bus station. His main business was passenger transport and his office was at the bus station. From morning to night, he was devoted to his business at the station, listening to the recommendations of the passengers, focusing on how to improve passenger transport services and expanding his bus transport business.

Mr. Badan Hage was satisfi ed with the quality of the buses, particularly the two 6125B buses delivered this time. He

was also very surprised and happy at our arrival, as no employee from a Chinese bus company had arrived in Mindanao to provide services to the customers.

In order to welcome the two new buses, SUPER FIVE company arranged a grand ribbon-cutting ceremony. And Mr. Badan Hage Mr. Henry, deputy mayor of Itigan City, Mr. Ruel from the provincial transportation department and other government officials, as well as the local Catholic priest, business partners and friends, to attend the ceremony. We also took this opportunity to introduce our company and our products to the guests to enable them to have some idea of our company and refresh their understanding of China’s automobile industry.

Before the buses were put into operation, Mr. Badan Hage displayed two of them at the bus station, and provided all the passengers with an opportunity to ride them. He also personally got on the buses to introduce the advantages of the buses to the customers. He told the customers that the interior trim was designed according to aviation standards, the buses were equipped with electronic instruments, Euro III engines with strong power, automatic retraction of the seats after the passengers got up, and that there was an independent air conditioning vent and reading light corresponding to each seat, etc.

Many customers asked the same question at the exhibition site, “Is this bus made in Japan?” I answered them proudly, “No, this is a Higer bus made in China.

Accompanied by two of my collegues, Zhang Fubo and Ye Yangmin, I visited Iligan City

from May 24 to 28 to deliver the buses to SUPER FIVE company in Iligan City and investigate the operation conditions of the 18 buses of our former customers.

It is 1,400km from Manila to Iligan City. I took two ferries, went through 9 cities, that is, Binan, Matnog, Catbalogan, Balo, Maasin, Surigao, Butuan, Cagayan and Iligan, and successfully reached my destination 42 hours later.

During the whole process of shipment, and the performances in acceleration, braking, grade climbing, turning, were very good. The appearance and interior trim of the buses were very attractive to the passersby and passengers and our buses attracted the attention of a lot of people in every place and were highly praised.

After arriving Iligan City, Sandy, the manager of the SUPER FIVE service station, showed us around the station. SUPER FIVE company currently has 52 buses, including 24 Higer buses of fi ve models, i.e., 6109,

We Are TogetherI felt a little uncomfortable when I

fi rst arrived, but later I got gradually used to it. In the following days, we gradually ignored the discomfort when we were devoted to the intense and fruitful work. Because of our hospitality and courtesy, we became part of them. And later, we worked and lived happily with the KARWA workers every day and night.

July and August are the hottest months in Qatar and it feels like sauna. There is sun radiation in most of the daytime, and the temperature keeps at above 55 degrees every day. But even in such weather, we still insisted on wearing suits when meeting our customers and negotiating business with our customers. And from such details could our customers feel our respect for them, even though we came from far away.

Our overseas customer service staff provided us with much support in succeeding in obtaining contracts. And

● Xiao Mingfa, Middle East

it was due to the effi cient and suffi cient services provided by the overseas service engineers and technicians that we could win confidence of the customers in our products and lay a solid foundation for the follow-up signing of the orders. Our foreign service staff was almost working in the workshops in hot air of 55 degrees, and completed the installation of more than 110 generators within just 2 months. And it was their sweat and actions that won the customers’ respect.

At the time of leaving Qatar, I suddenly felt that every place here were so lovely and nostalgic. After this experience in Qatar, I have a more profound understanding of what the management of our company often stresses: Only when we are around and together with the customers can we hear their voices, can we get close to the customers, and can we “Be Together.”

Before we arrived in Doha, one of my colleagues told us that the accommodations

in Doha were poor, but I did not take it seriously because we thought that Qatar was one of the richest countries in the world and the local distributor was one of Higer’s biggest distributors. In addition, we were going there to endure hardships so that we should not care about the accommodations too much. With enough mental preparation, I arrived in Doha on the morning of June 6.

As soon as we arrived in Doha, I found that the conditions were the same as what my colleague had described. As arranged, we stayed in the dormitories of KARWA taxi drivers, most of whom were from India, Pakistan, Nepal, etc. Since then, I lived and worked together every day and night with them. We ate Indian curry pilaf hand, shared a collective bathroom and a toilet.

clearly visible, and all the control devices are simple and practical.

It is worth mentioning that Higer VIP MPV provides users with more agile, free, spacious and comfortable business experience. It is also equipped with luxury leather business seats, an imported integrated teak counter, teak and LED lighting in the passenger area, an electronic voice navigation system, front and rear independent air-conditioners, a negative ion air purifier, an integrated DVD\GPS and reversing display, and an LCD TV system, which provide the business passengers with unlimited business travel pleasure.

Although based on Hiace, Higer’s new generation of official MPV model has been made a lot of improvements. Its front appearance becomes more round, its interior space is greatly increased, and the riders feel more comfortable.

Well-known Brand Engine with Low Fuel Consumption and High Power

Higer’s new generation of official MPV uses the engine produced in the Toyota technology and has been optimized, and the overall value has been increased. The MPV launched

the driver feel more comfortable and the shift change easier.

High Active and Passive Safety Performance

Security has always been one of users’ most concerned issues about vehicles. Higer MPVs follow the Japanese tradition in security. The body frame uses high tensile plate iron to ensure that it can bear heavy load. And computer-aided engineering analysis technology is adopted to produce a brand-new box-type frame which reduces the noise level and enhances the driving stability. The body frame is equipped with a high-strength bumper with unique design and rigorous crash safe structure to reduce and disperse the impact force. These technologies are similar to that used in Toyota’s GOA body, and the shock absorption part of the front and the rear part of the body is designed to improve the passive safety performance of the vehicle. In terms of active safety, the front disc type brake system with ABS has outstanding performance in road test, and the appropriate intervention of ABS in case of high-speed braking effectively avoids signifi cant deviation and skidding, and the force feedback of the brake pedal is also very obvious. The front axle type double arm independent suspension of Higer commercial MPV absorbs the bumping force from the road and makes the business trip more comfortable and enjoyable.

this time is equipped with the 4RB2 engine, adopts a 16-valve dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) structure, and is mainstream model in the field of multi-purpose vehicles. 4RB2 not only matches MPV but also is widely used on off-road vehicles. This is a famous gasoline engine built in the Toyota technology. Its prototype is Toyota 2RZ series, and a number of its technical indicators are even higher than the original Toyota models. The fuel consumption of this model also attracts the attention of the users, and the fuel consumption of 4RB2 is about 12L/100km. Higer business series can be equipped with a diesel engine, the fuel consumption of which is less than 8L/100km. 4RB2 perfectly matches a 5-speed manual gearbox, the gear positions are very clear and fluent. If a 6-speed gearbox is used, the gear ratio can be optimized and the surging momentum of 4RB2 can be released more freely and the range of economic rotation can be expanded. In addition, the all-round vision of this vehicle and the two large rear view mirrors provide the driver with a full view. It is worth mentioning that the gearbox, according to the arrangement of the original Hiace, is placed on the center console, making

Higer Bus Becomes China’s First Hydrogen Fuel Bus Exporter● By Sha Quan

On June 17, 2010, the departure ceremony of the first hydrogen fuel cell city buses jointly developed by Higer Bus and Tsinghua University

and exported to Singapore was held in Suzhou. This will be the fi rst export of China’s hydrogen fuel cell bus and of great signifi cance.

The Higer hydrogen fuel cell city buses exported to Singapore this time will be exhibited as the official

new energy service vehicles at the first Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore in August 2010. The exportation of the buses indicates that China’s high-tech energy-saving environment-friendly buses with fully independent intellectual property rights are beginning to move towards the international arena and from the production to international exportation of green energy-saving and emission-reduction buses, and China’s fuel cell powered vehicle industry has

entered a new stage of development. The Higer hydrogen fuel cell city buses exported to

Singapore this time are the new-generation hydrogen fuel cell city buses developed for the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore by Higer and Tsinghua R&D Center for New Energy Vehicles after years of research. This model is equipped with an internationally advanced “electricity-electricity hybrid” fuel cell power system with the maximum speed of 80 km per hour and a driving range of more than 200 km, and is characterized by zero emissions and zero pollution.

It is introduced that the hot and humid climate characteristics and the hilly and winding road conditions of Singapore are fully taken into account in the design of this bus, and the bus adopts right steering wheel and left open door according to Singapore’s regulatory requirements, and is equipped with an integral type electric airconditioner of great cooling capacity. Compared with the hydrogen fuel

cell city bus of the previous generations made in China, this bus has the advantages of higher overall reliability, more reasonable structural design, higher cost effi ciency, etc.

Higer Bus was involved in many international sporting events. In 2006, 500 Higer buses, representing China’s vehicles, were used to serve in the fifteenth Doha Asian Games, which was the fi rst time that Chinese vehicles were used in an international sporting event. In 2008, 1500 Higer buses were used to serve in the Beijing Olympic Games and achieved faultless operation for a second time. The exportation of the new generation of Higer’s hydrogen fuel cell city buses to Singapore to serve in the fi rst Youth Olympic Games has a more special signifi cance. It indicates that the demonstration of commercial application of China’s fuel cell buses will begin at home and abroad in a wider range Chinese green buses are opening the door to the markets of developed countries.

Successful HIGER BUS Exhibition in Ukraine● Zhang Qifa, Europe

After acquiring Ukrainian certification, Higer Bus made one step further in the market in Ukraine by participating in the “2010TIR Ukraine International

Business Motor Exhibition” in October 2010. “2010TIR Ukraine International Business Motor

Exhibition” is Ukraine’s largest commercial vehicle exhibition. It is held every year and so far has been held for six years. The products at the exhibition include city buses, long-distance and tourist buses, minibuses, multi-purpose vehicles, trucks and special vehicles, etc. This exhibition brought together the world’s most advanced commercial vehicle manufacturers, distributors and service providers, and most of the visitors were professionals. Therefore, “2010TIR Ukraine International Business Motor Exhibition” was a best exhibition platform for the introduction of Higer Bus in Ukraine.

The market in Ukraine is the key European market. In order to expand the publicity and raise the brand awareness of Higer Bus, our Ukraine distributor spared no high price to book an indoor and an outdoor exhibition booths. The Higer's exhibition booths occupied a total area of 150 square meters, and totally three Higer buses certifi ed by Ukraine were displayed.

In order to participate in the exhibition, our Ukraine distributor had carefully prepared, and specially made an 8m-long eye-catching logo and placed it above the booth. Everyone who came into the exhibition hall could see the big logo and fi nd the location of our booth. And our distributor also hired four models to attract more visitors and increase Higer’s popularity. Our booth was so unique that crowd was surging.

As it was the first time that Higer Bus was involved in an exhibition and the visitors were not familiar with Chinese bus brands, we had many questions and inquiries to answer. Therefore, introduced the history, current situation, achievement, products, exports, etc, of our company, as well as the sales, certification, after-sales services, accessories distribution network, etc, of Higer Bus in Ukraine, in a comprehensive and careful manner. Our introduction and

answering further promoted our Higer's brands and left a deep impression on the visitors.

In order to win orders of “Euro-2012 Ukraine”and other large orders, Higer’s distributor in Ukraine invited government officials and business owners to the exhibition including the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine in charge of motor vehicle transportation, director of the tournament “Euro-2012 Ukraine” in charge of vehicle transportation, General Manager of Krim Transportation Group in Ukraine and General Manager of Kiev Transportation Group in Ukraine, etc. These visitors spoke highly of our Higer buses and also expressed their good hope for Higer’s long-term development in the Ukrainian market.

Higer Bus was the largest exhibitor of Chinese bus manufacturers and had the most bus models certifi ed in Ukraine among all Chinese bus manufacturers at this exhibition. Our efforts won recognition of all the visitors and the organizers of the exhibition. We received nearly 12,000 visitors and received the honorary title of “Best Exhibitor”, laying a good foundation for the development of Higer bus in Ukraine.

On June 30, 2010, Higer Bus participated in the 46th Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF). The participants included 618 companies from

17 countries, including China, Japan, Pakistan, Belgium, Congo, etc. Compared to the 495 companies last year, the size and number of participating countries this time were enhanced greatly.

At this exhibition, Higer’s local distributor prepared 3 buses to be displayed and assigned 3 employees to be responsible for the exhibition work. The general distributor and the service manager were participated throughout the exhibition.

Due to our carefully arranged Higer booth and the high Higer popularity in the local area, Higer bus attracted visitors from all walks of life, including, senior officials from Zambia, the Chinese embassy staff and well-known companies, etc.

From 26 to 28 August, Higer Bus held a product launch exhibition in Briansk, Russia. In addition to overseas sales staff sent by our company, the

participants also included Evgeny, dealer sales director, Vadim and brand sales manager, etc. Three models were exhibited: 6885Q, 6891GA and 6118GS, which were to be mainly sold to the transport company in the local and surrounding regions.

The launch exhibition was held at a local passenger transport company with which our company had good relations. In addition to Higer’s present and potential customers, officials of local transport authorities, local media also attended, and the Minister tested driving a Higer bus. The launch exhibition obtained good results.

Officials of Zambia’s government at all levels were very concerned about the exhibition and even Zambian President and ministers appeared at the exhibition. Mr. Ian Kansanka, President of Botswana was also invited. Television and radio, and major newspapers of Zambia reported the event.

Vehicle Use and Maintenance Requirements in Rainy Seasons

1. Driving

1.1. Check before running

1.1.1. In rainy days, the tires should keep appropriate air

pressure. It is recommended that the tread depth should

be 4mm or above, otherwise the water fi lm between the

tire surface and road will be formed, which may cause the

side slipping or longer braking distance.

1.1.2. Check all the lamps, instruments and signals. The lamps

are not only illuminating apparatuses, but also signals of

safety.

1.1.3. Check the wiper and make sure of the good front view of

the driver.

1.1.4. Check the defroster of the front windshield.

1.1.5. Check the rear view mirrors and defrosters.

1.1.6. Make sure of the seal of the whole vehicle, especially the

electrical appliance compartments.

1.2. Check during running

1.2.1. When the vehicle is running on the earth road full of

water, it should not close to the sides of the road so as to

avoid accidents resulting from the road collapse.

1.2.2. Second or third gear and no more than 40km/h are

recommended in rainy days.

1.2.3. Fog lamps should take the place of dazzling headlamps

in rainy days.

1.2.4. Turn on the defrosters of the front windshield and rear

view mirrors if it is needed.

1.2.5. Do not keep applying the high-speed wiper because the

wiper will shake with the strong wind and the water can

not be cleared effectively, which may cause accidents.

The correct way is to shift the speeds of the wiper based

on the visibility and stopping the wiper if it is possible.

1.2.6. The braking distance of the wet road is three times that of

the dry road, so the distance of at least the length of two

vehicle bodies from the front vehicle should be kept. If

the vehicle behind is too close, the emergent signals can

be turned on to remind it.

1.2.7. The best way to avoid sliding is running slowly because

it can add the contact areas between the tyres and road so

that the traction is enforced. If you fi nd that the vehicle

begins to slide, do not step brake pedal or turn the steering

wheel suddenly and forcibly, which may result in side

slipping. Loosen the acceleration pedal to slow down

the vehicle. Step the pedal slightly if you need to brake.

While stabilizing the brake, turn the steering wheel to the

direction of sliding, which can prevent the vehicle from

turning around.

Page 51: Higer People

492011 FEB

1.2.8. Try to go along the road which has been passed by other

vehicles if you are not familiar with it.

1.2.9. Cellphones or radios are not allowed to be used in rainy

days with thunder.

1.3. Running through water

1.3.1. Do not go through the water if the water level is higher

than the center of the wheels or exhaust pipes.

1.3.2. If there is a vehicle running through the water in the front,

wait until it reaches the bank. Otherwise the followed

vehicle may be stopped in the water if the front vehicle

fails.

1.3.3. Keep the first or second gear and no less than 2000

revolution speed. When going through the water, do not

loosen the acceleration pedal completely. If you need

to decelerate the vehicle, loosen the acceleration pedal

slowly.

1.3.4. Go through the water at low speed and high revolution

speed. Do not stop, shift the gear or turn the steering

wheel sharply. Step the acceleration pedal continuously

even the neutral gear is applied so that the discharging

pressure keeps larger than the water pressure because

once the engine shuts down, the water will return into the

exhaust pipe.

1.3.5. Do not start the engine again if it has shut down resulting

from over-high level of the water, otherwise it will cause

overhaul of the engine.

1.3.6. Check if there is water in the air cleaner after going

through the water.

1.3.7. After going through water, step the brake pedal softly

several times to dry the water in the brake system with the

heat generated from the friction between the brake shoes

and hubs.

1.3.8. Check if there is any water in the gearbox in the local

service stations after going through the water.

1.4. Parking

1.4.1. Do not park the vehicles under trees.

1.4.2. Do not park the vehicles under billboards.

1.4.3. Try not to park the vehicles near buildings.

1.4.4. Do not park the vehicles in the low-lying areas.

2. Maintenance

2.1. Inspection before rainy seasons

2.1.1. Check the seal of the whole vehicles, especially the

electrical appliance compartment.

2.1.2. It is recommended that the tyre tread depth is 4mm or

above and appropriate air pressure is kept. Otherwise the

tyres should be replaced.

2.1.3. Check the wheel alignment. There is no abnormity such

as side-slipping.

2.1.4. Check the wiper blades and replace them if it is needed.

2.1.5. Check the rustproof of chassis.

2.2. Periodical maintenance

2.2.1. Due to the high humidity of air in rainy days, the maintenance

intervals should be adjusted based on the practical conditions.

Check if the air cleaners are affected with damp or water

every day. Discharge air reservoir every day.

2.2.2. Check the clutch liquid and air discharging after several

rainy days because the water vapor is easy to be mixed

into the liquid and gasifi ed after compression, which may

result in the failure of clutch.

2.2.3. In sunny days after rain, park the vehicles in the sun,

open all the windows for ventilation and turn on the audio

systems to eliminate moisture.

2.2.4. Check the bearing, brake, rust and lubrication of chassis

every 10,000km.

2.2.5. Clean the surface of radiator each week.

2.2.6. Check the electric quantity of the battery, clean the vent and

grease the poles for rust and corrosion prevention each month.

Improve Ability through Training and Create Value through Services● Service and Training Group

similar technical training each year to help local service stations to further improve their service capabilities so that Higer vehicles could achieve better market performance.

Higer Bus has attached importance to the building of overseas service ability. After years of construction, we have accumulated sufficient training resources to provide training support to overseas service partners. Higer Bus currently has the following training resources:

★ Human resources: 4 full-time professional resident trainers who are all familiar with the operation of vehicles, chassis structure, electrical structure, and have their respective professional skills.

★ Hardware Resources: a professional product training room, which is equipped with teaching models of chassis, bodies and electrical systems of 1:1 size. The structure and functions of the models are consistent with the actual vehicles. We also have some special tools. The training room can be used for practice of maintenance, diagnosis and repair of assemblies.

★ Training Programs: vehicle operation, maintenance and repair of chassis assemblies, principles of diagnosis and maintenance of electrical systems, use and maintenance of new products, etc. Training related to businesses will be provided by full-time engineers of special fi elds hired by other departments of our company.

There are currently more than 12,000 Higer buses in service in different areas of the world. Therefore, how to ensure the normal operation of all these vehicles is critically important to any person overseas. We currently provide end users with support services by sending service engineers. But from the point of view of long-term development, overseas service partners are Higer’s most reliable backup in overseas services. Higer Bus hopes to enhance our service support capability through training and exchanges, etc, and thus to provide users with more value.

After nearly two months of preparation, our company is now welcoming our honored guests from New Caledonia and the Russia to attend the technical

training courses in October.Given the special nature of overseas training and in order

to provide the trainees with an opportunity to gain sufficient and more professional training, the Service and Training Group not only trained the trainees on vehicle operation, maintenance of the various chassis assemblies, fault diagnosis of the various modules of the electrical system, etc, in the product training room and the vehicle debugging workshop, but also took the trainees to the bus service station of the Suzhou Industrial Park to learn the construction of service station and practice vehicle troubleshooting at the site. It also organized and accompanied the trainees to further study the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the corresponding chassis assemblies at Shanghai ZF, Beijing Cummins, and Dongfeng Cummins.

Because all the trainees from the two countries are not literate in Chinese and English, Higer Bus designated persons to provide services in French and Russian translation during the training period. The lecturers gave each class in a responsible manner. All the trainees listened to the trainers attentively and carefully took notes, the classroom atmosphere was relaxed and the process of the practical operation was of fun. After the training, the Service and Training Group arranged a written test. All the Russian trainees passed the test with the highest score of 93, the lowest score of 73, and an average of 81. Both the trainees and trainers were satisfi ed with the training results, and Higer Bus and three chassis assembly manufacturers granted the trainees graduation or authentication certifi cates.

Daly, a trainee from New Caledonia, said that the training was the most complete and professional provided by the vehicle manufacturer that he had ever received. Andrey, a Russian trainee, expected that our company could provide

HIGER Flying Squad Aims to Keep The Wheels Turning no Matter What The Problem

● From WMC,Australian

WMC, the Australian and New Zealand distributor of Higer buses and coaches, has implemented an

added after sales service initiative to ensure customer's buses remain serviceable and ready for work at all

times.

The company has added a special team of engineers from the Higer factory in China capable of fl ying

to any part of Australia or New Zealand to ensure any problems can be quickly rectifi ed so that buses can

be back on the road as quickly as possible.

Service manager Chen Xin Ming and technician Chen Zhongyong are on secondment from Higer

in China overseeing service issues as well as gathering data and information for ongoing R&D. Both are

based at WMC head quarters at Milperra in Sydney's South West.

The two engineers have already carried out several missions to rectify service problems and get buses

back on the road and working again.

Recently Xin Ming and Zhongyong were called to Darwin by a Higer operator whose bus had been

crippled by a wiring problem as a result of a radio being incorrectly fi tted by a local after market supplier

in the Northern Territory.

Page 57: Higer People

552011 FEB

Higer Takes You Higher! Voices From Overseas

Xin Ming and Zhongyong can quickly t ravel to any part of Austra l ia to troubleshoot problems as they did recently with a Darwin operator having his bus back on the road in less than 24 hours.

The two Higer engineers are offering important R&D feedback to the factory in China on a range of service items on Higer buses already operating in Australia.

However the two Higer technicians fl ew to Darwin on the same day and with an all night effort they

were able to fi x the problem and have the bus back on the road for an important charter job next morning.

According to WMC CEO, Jason Pecotic, having the Higer 'trouble-shooters' on the ground in

Australia is important in helping to build confi dence in the brand amongst bus and coach operators.

"While being one of the largest global manufacturers, Higer is a relatively new brand in the

Australian and New Zealand market and hasn't yet had time to establish a reputation for reliability and

durability here, despite an exemplary record and our knowledge and confi dence in the engineering," said

Jason Pecotic.

"We feel it is important to demonstrate to our customers that no matter what problems they might

have with their vehicles we can have factory trained experts on hand within hours to rectify problems and

get the bus back on the road earning its keep," he said.

"As commercial vehicle operators know, every manufacturer has small problems from time to time

but it is how quickly those problems can be rectifi ed that makes the difference in the long run," he added.

"It doesn't matter that the problem may be caused by an aftermarket supplier or a glitch in

manufacturing, the most important thing is to sort the problem out as quickly as possible and have the

vehicle back on the road again, we're not about asking whose fault it is, we're about maximising the

customer service experience," Jason said.

"Higer utilises the latest technology and the best international componentry from established vendors

such as Cummins, Allison, ZF, Meritor, Firestone and Thermo King but we also want to give Australian

bus the best customer service in the industry," he added.

Higer produced more than 19,000 buses and coaches globally in 2009 placing it third to Daimler in

terms of global sales. The company produced more buses in 2009 than other key players in the global bus

industry with Higer sales doubling Volvo and more than three times higher than Scania and MAN.
