Goals

• Teachers will learn strategies to prepare students for the Biology EOC so that all students have the opportunity to be successful.

• Teachers will understand the history and direction of high stakes assessments in science.

• Teachers will identify ALL resources that are available to support Biology EOC prep through assessment, instruction and curriculum.

• Teams of teachers will begin to prepare tools to use in the classroom, which will provide students with multiple opportunities to practice.

• Teachers will identify the strengths and limitations of existing data tools that can provide information about student learning.

Systems Inquiry Application• Diagram of a system and

some text about a specific system.

• May include systematic observations, models, or open-ended explorations of a system.

• Documentation of the steps of a controlled experiment or field study.

• Data table with the results.

• Documentation of the use of the technological design process to solve a problem.

• Table with test results.

Types of Scenarios

Page 15: High School Biology EOC Planning and Updates December 4, 2012

• Scenarios provide context for sets of items.– Biology EOC Life Science

• The items associated with a scenario cover a range of standards & range of cognitive complexity.

• Items not connected to a scenario are called “Stand Alone” items.
