Messages from our students / graduates

Due to the prosperous economy, the construction industry in Hong Kong is facing an ever-increasing demand for construction professionals. This well-designed programme offered by BRE at PolyU, undoubtedly, is the response to the current situation. During the two years’ study, I have gained precious knowledge in building technologies, management and economic theories which will help me to face future challenges. The programme aims not only to simply inculcate students with numerous theories, but also emphasises real practice and helps students develop a solid foundation in construction by providing a series of industrial training. In addition, the all-round curriculum of the programme is frequently reviewed by professionals of the University who have close connection to the construction industry so that graduates can receive up-to-date information and be competent in the construction industry.I am also grateful that the Department has spent a lot of teaching resources on us and the academic staff are willing to offer us continuous support whenever we encounter difficulties. Their guidance enhances my critical thinking and enriches my understanding of the industry. I strongly believe that it is a wise decision to study at BRE, PolyU.

Desmond Lee Chun TingHD in Building Technology and Management (Engineering)

I have gained the fundamental knowledge for becoming a surveyor in this two-year programme. In the booming construction industry, learning updated software like Building Information Modelling is one of the highlights in this programme. This comprehensive course enables students to develop themselves both academically and professionally. My studies and participation in extra-curricular activities have enabled me to develop my potential. I am grateful to be recognised by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. I am also thankful that I made friends in the extracurricular activities and was encouraged by them during these years. I believe this programme would be a good foundation for my future studies in the BSc (Hons) Surveying programme, which would enable me to pursue a professional career in the surveying discipline.

PolyU has given me a very fruitful university life. I have had opportunities to meet different people and to acquire knowledge beyond what I learned in secondary school. Over the previous year, I have joined student societies to meet more friends and learnt how to cooperate and communicate with students from different cultures.PolyU has also provided me with many opportunities to learn. There are numerous subjects in different areas for students to choose from, which has enabled me to widen my horizons.I know that my experience at PolyU has helped me to become a well-rounded individual for society.

Cheung Cheuk Sze, JasmineHD in Building Services Engineering

As a first-year student at PolyU, I have had a meaningful and interesting university life. In this programme, there are many practical sessions for students to apply knowledge that they have learned in class. For example, the survey camp held in the summer requires students to make use of their land surveying and computer skills to finish a project. Although the process is exhausting, the experience is invaluable. To provide information on career development and up-to-date technologies, guests from well-known companies and associations, such as ESRI. and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, are often invited to give talks.Throughout the year, I not only gained knowledge from lectures but also learned how to apply it in real situations. I feel confident that my studies will lead to a future career.

Lee Yin NokHD in Geomatics
