Virgen de las Nieves Laguna de la Yeguas Las Chorreras Veleta Peñones Observatorio Maribel Montebajo Río Boulevares Veleta Laguna HIKING TRAILS / TRAIL RUNNING VELETA ROUTE This classic route takes you from the highest chairlift station along the old Veleta track to the emblematic peak of Sierra Neva- da. Along the way the hiker will be able to find the Posiciones del Veleta, a strategic point from which the San Juan Valley and the great peaks of the Penibetica mountain range can be spotted. LAGUNA DE LAS YEGUAS ROUTE Starts at 3,000 metres, the highest point of the chairlift, taking us to the Laguna de las Yeguas and providing the great melting snow show, both at the large lagoon at the head of the Dílar Ri- ver as well as in the Lagunillos de la Virgen, located at about one kilometre higher up. There, the Mediterranean high mountain ecosystem can be seen in full splendour. OBSERVATORIO ROUTE This is a short walk that heads towards the heart of Borreguiles after beginning at the Laguna de Las Yeguas. Just 300 metres into the route, you will be able to see one of the largest wet pastures (“borreguiles”) located at the headwaters of the Dílar River. VIRGEN DE LAS NIEVES ROUTE From Borreguiles, a gentle route that reaches the monument to the Virgen de las Nieves, a historic postcard view. The pano- ramic views of the Barranco de San Juan from this area and the frequent presence of ibex are other attractions to be found on this route. You need a minimum amount of training and good physical abilities to enable you to steer the bike properly and avoid obstacles.Keep in to the marked trails and not try to take any short-cuts. It is mandatory to respect the signage, with no change or modification being permitted. Circuits are marked according to levels: Green: Very easy / Blue: Easy / red: Difficult / Black: Very difficult.Cyclists should use a bicycle that is fit for descent, with full suspension and capable of absorbing the jolt of landing and other obstacles to be found along the route.Cyclists should wear a full-face helmet, neck brace adapted to the hel-met, and protection for the back, elbows, knees and calves, plus gloves. Cyclists should act carefully and responsibly and control their own speed so as not to give rise to any situation that might jeopardize their own safety or that of other users. Users should be aware of the difficulty of the route, the layout of the obstacles and their own tech-nical and physical abilities.Except in competitions, the cyclist in front has priority. Avoid stopping in places that might obstruct the route or that might not be visible from higher up. Before starting your descent after making a stop, look higher up the trail and give way to anyone already coming down.Downhill cycling trails are reserved solely for this activity and are the-refore off bounds to pedestrians and other types of user. the difficulty of the obstacles may change due to bike rides or wea-ther conditions. Make sure that the landing zones for jumps or steep sections are free of other users.The fact that the lifts are open is no guarantee that the downhill trails will be negotiable.
