Nyíregyháza is a city in th North-East of Hungary and the it is the capital of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg country.With 117,000 people it is the seventh-largest city in Hungary and one of the leading cities Northern Hungary and the northern part of the Great Hungarian Plain.This is a dynamic and spectacular development since the 18th century.

History :

The first written notes about Nyíregyháza date back in 1209 altough it was called only Nyír. .

A source from 1326 mentions that by then the city already had a church, church hence become the part of the city's name.

• .In the middle of the 15th century the town had cc. 400 in habitants.

• In the 16th century during the Turkish occupation in Hungary Nyíregyháza became deserted and was resettled only in the 1630s-1640s.

• After the war of independence led by prince Francis Rákóczi 2. the population of the town increased.

• Most of the new settlers were slovals from the area of Békéscsaba.

During these prosperous years the town got a new town hall a hospital several schools and a restaurant by the nearly lake Sóstó. The inhabitants of the town took an active part in the revalution and war of independence in 1848-49 and after the suppression of the revolution several cirizens were imprisoned amoung then the mayor of the city Márton Hatzel.
