Yes, we have now slipped into fall. At this time of year, we look forward to color changes and begin to anticipate some snow flakes for our cross-country and downhill ski fans. Fall hikes are great to go on in cooler weather. Many areas to hike are reasonably close by and range in intensity from easy to difficult. It can’t empha-sized enough to prepare adequately for challenging ones. Proper foot wear, clothing, food and water are a must. Letting folks know

where and when you are going is critical. Trips alone should be avoided on long and difficult outings. Each year we hear of tragic events occurring in the high peaks areas as a result of poorly prepared hikers. As a reminder, my tenure is nearing an end as chair after four years. We are still looking for someone to step up. The executive committee has suggested, perhaps, a shared responsibility of two members as an alternative to a single chair. Sounds good to me.For most regular meetings throughout the year, we are entertained by presentations arranged by Alix Hueston. They are always educational, interesting and most times just plain enjoyable. For those regulars that usually attend, they know what I’m saying. Come to our meetings and see what you are missing. As always fun outings are listed in the newsletter. Also check out Town of Plattsburgh web site for more.See you in the great outdoors! Phil Erickson

A note from the chair:

Check out our Facebook page, post photos and tell us about

your adventures or let us know what outings you are interested in.
