SMALL GROUP INITIATIVE COMING
small (smôl) adj.
Being below the average in size or magnitude.
group (ˈgrüp) noun
A number of individuals assembled together or having
some unifying relationship.
One can see from the definitions above of what a small
group really is. But the description alone doesn't give all
of the understanding. People who have been part of a
small group know how valuable they are: there is a great
opportunity for fellowship; often times they
include meals (that's why we're Methodist!); there is a
component of study; there is a chance to do
service together as a team; and a bond is created that
continues on forever!
Our launch for small groups will be on September 8th.
We are planning on having these personal growth
opportunities available every day of the week so everyone
will have a chance to be a part. We will begin with a
church-wide bible study entitled “Follow Me” which was
written by Rev. David Platt.
As our time gets closer, more information will
be coming. It is our hope that you will join a small group
for this 6-week study as we discover together the value
we have as a congregation when we follow Jesus!
In Christ,
Larry J. Bergstrom

August 2013
On Sunday, August 18th, we will be handing out to
everyone in church, children, youth and adults an offering
coin folder. This folder will be used to collect a quarter a
day per person and run from August 18th to
Thanksgiving. These folders will serve as our “Offering
of Gratitude” and will be collected by Thanksgiving.
“Whoever gives a
thank offering shows
me honor and whoever
decides to live right,
will see my power to
save.” Psalm 50:23

HHUMC CHILDREN’S CORNER
Thank you, Krista Birri!
We were very fortunate to have the Director of our
Preschool, Krista Birri, taking control of our children’s
ministry for the past several months. Through her
outstanding work with our volunteers, we were able to
provide the children of our church and community an
outstanding Vacation Bible School! “Kingdom Rocks”
was one of the best Bible Schools we have ever had and
much of that success was directly due to Krista’s
leadership.
She also continued to keep our children’s program
moving forward as we have prepared for a new staff
member to come into this position. We owe her a great
deal of gratitude for a job well done and for taking care
of our little ones!
PARENTS MEETING
AUGUST 14TH
There will be a meeting with our new Director of
Children’s Ministry, Kelly Williams, on Wednesday,
August 14th, at 6:30 pm. We will begin with dinner at
5:30 pm so bring the family for dinner and stay to
hear the plan for ministry with our children. All are
welcome to be with us and we invite you to bring
someone (with children) with you.
This will be very important and informative as we
prepare for our future and we value everyone’s input.
Please sign-up on the blue sheet or call the church
office for reservations. We look forward to your
being with us!
Kelly Williams
Director of
Children’s Ministries
We welcome to our staff
Mrs. Kelly Williams who
comes to us from the west campus of the First United
Methodist Church of Boca Raton. Kelly has been in
ministry since 1985 serving United Methodist and
Presbyterian congregations in Texas, Michigan and
Florida.
At one point in her ministry, Kelly implemented a
Christian education program for up to 300+ children
and youth in which she developed and put into
operation the entire program and activities.
Get to know Kelly and find a way to join her in
creating a new ministry program for our children! She
is happily married to her husband, Steve, and both are
active members of the Emmaus Community.

Created to Be in Relationship
We are created to be in relationship with God, the people around us,
and ourselves. Sometimes our relationships are broken
and instead of repent, and work on them, we cover it
up. The Hebrew word for repent is shuv. Shuv goes
beyond merely confessing our mistakes; it calls for a
change of direction in the way we live; we are to turn
toward God.

Kaebnick Korner Dear Hollywood Hills Family,
Happy people give thanks! I am thankful that the Lord led us to HHUMC. In our relatively short time here, we
have made great friends, worshipped the Lord and have seen His hands at work in so many ways. One of those
ways is the Kaebnick Scholarship program. It is a fantastic program, allowing so many to pursue their dreams.
Those of you that have met me, know that I am not a young high school graduate. But I am pursuing a dream, by
studying for a PhD in Engineering. My goal is to become a professor, and share the knowledge and experience I
have gained in my 35+ years as a professional engineer. Currently, I am working at the FLL airport runway
expansion, managing the Quality Assurance and Material testing contract. This will lead to my PhD dissertation,
which will involve research into post-tensioned bridge structures. As a part of the runway expansion project, the
bridge leading from the terminals to south bound US-1 has been demolished (leading to much consternation of
those flying in and out of the airport). However, FIU has salvaged some of those bridge segments that will be
studied, tested, and “played with” in great detail. The miracle of the Kaebnick Scholarship program is helping me
realize this dream, and I thank all of you for this opportunity.
With Love in Christ, Morgan Dickinson

Wow, it’s August and back to school time. We have had a fun filled summer full of
events. I want to first thank everyone for making our First Annual Bake Auction a huge
success. We raised a total of $1,083.00 to continue our improvements in the youth room.
In July we went bowling on Tuesdays, had lunches, and attended Wonderful
Wednesday nights. The youth have been doing devotions themselves and reading the
book of Matthew. Praying for not only themselves but others. It’s really amazing
watching them growing closer to God and each other.
We had a fun filled youth lock in with movies and games and fun times with our
Christian friends. Breakfast casserole and French toast the next morning prepared by
Miss Krista and Miss Diane.
On July 23rd we had the opportunity to host our 3rd annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand. In
which we want to take a moment to thank the HHUMC Pre-school families for their
support and everyone that participated. From setting up, blowing up balloons, making
lemonade, baking lemon items, holding signs on street corners in the heat, from early set
up to afternoon tearing down before the stormy weather came. We raised $1,337.91 to
help find a cure for childhood cancer.
At the end of July we had 24 youth and children go to camp in Leesburg. At camp the
kids get to experience a wide variety of things to do, not to mention attend Chapel and
worship services. This is truly an event the kids look forward to each and every summer
to bring them closer to God.
In early September we will be heading to Orlando to experience
“Rock The Universe”, a weekend where many Christian music artists perform.
We thank you for your continued love and support of our Youth Ministries.
Blessings, Your Youth Leadership Team.
