Holmes Chapel Community Newsletter Issue 13: September 2015 Working for the whole community Find us on Facebook Or Follow us @hcpartnership Message from The Partnership Chairman, Stuart Gammon: Dear Friends, Welcome to the September edition– our First Anniversary—of the Community Newsletter! By now our A-level and GCSE students have received their results; I hope that you or your children got the results they wanted. Many of the A-level students will be off to University to further their education, whilst others will be taking a gap year or going straight into jobs; whatever you are doing, I hope you are successful! Meanwhile many of you will no doubt have had some form of holiday or break from work (despite the British Summer’) hopefully this was relaxing and you have recharged your batteries ready for the autumn, and whatever that brings. Over the last month the team at Danesound Radio have worked hard to bring a programme of news and music to the community. Did you have a chance to listen or contribute? Well done to the team for a magnificent effort! As I said in the last edition we are in the process of reviewing the content and style of this newsletter, and are planning to make some changes to bring you even more news; If you have any views about the newsletter, or would like to contribute articles, now would be a very good time to contact us (see below). Stuart Gammon Chairman, Holmes Chapel Partnership We are always interested in your views. If you would like to comment, have an article for next edition, or would like to receive a personal copy by email, please email us at: [email protected] or write to me at 41 Portree Drive, Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, CW4 7JB. Please note that the deadline for articles is the 25 th of the month preceding publication. Holmes Chapel Chorus– New Season ahead: Holmes Chapel Chorus is a friendly & informal ‘singing for pleasure’ mixed voice choir of about 60 members. Our Musical Director is Peter Cotton. We rehearse on Monday evenings in Holmes Chapel Methodist Church to prepare for two main concerts each year – a Christmas Concert of carols and other popular Christmas music, and our Summer Concert of popular tunes, songs from Musicals etc. All of our performances are in aid of Charities. We start back for our new season on Monday September 7th. We always welcome new members who enjoy singing. We do not have formal auditions but a basic ability to ‘hold a tune’ is obviously needed. As ever with mixed choirs the men are outnumbered by the ladies, so we really need some more men!!

If

you wish to know more then please contact Peter Cotton on 01477 537491

Goosefest 15 - ‘The most ambitious yet’ :

An innovative two-day folk festival featuring at least 10 top acts is set to make the 2015 Goosfest the most ambitious yet. This year for the first time the annual Goostrey arts festival will take place over a two week period in October in order to incorporate the weekend event, called Folk at the Marquee.

The event will be held over the weekend of 10 and 11 October on the Goostrey School field from 1pm to 10.30pm each day. The full programme has secured 10 top acts including: Wingin’ It, Boo Hewerdine and Edwina Hayes who appeared at Goosfest in 2013 to rave reviews.

Since its humble beginnings in 2006, Goosfest has always tried to push the envelope and the organising committee is justly proud that it is now one of the best music and arts festivals in the North West and they are confident that Folk at the Marquee will take this year’s event to a whole new level.

BRIT-award winning singer Beverley Craven is this year’s headline act and other highlights of Goosfest 2015, will include: Eighties pop/rock band China Crisis; classical guitarist and Classic FM favourite Craig Ogden; an evening with Sunny Ormonde, who plays Lilian Bellamy in BBC Radio 4’s The Archers, Antiques Roadshow expert Eric Knowles and Dr Mark Baldwin who will reveal the secrets of the Enigma machines.

The full line and details of dates, venues and ticket prices can be found at the website www.goosfest.com

Clonter Fair & Car Boot Sale: Sunday 6th September, 10am—4pm. There is one month to go until the Clonter Fair and Car Boot Sale returns to Clonter, by popular request, following the very successful event held in 2007. There is still room however for some more car booters and stall holders. Are you in need of a little life laundry, or a purveyor of handcrafted wares or local produce? This fair is aimed at the discerning shopper, with the addition of a host of other attractions, from good old fashioned fair games, such as Splat The Rat, Plate Smashing, and a Coconut Shy, to a fortune teller, a story teller, and live music throughout the day, from opera to folk, and possibly even some rock. This promises to be a great day out for all the family in the glorious country surroundings of Clonter. For updates visit https://www.clonteropera.com/2015/07/clonter-fair-car-boot-sale/
