MORRIS CHAPEL UMC Chapel Echoes Newsletter August 3, 2015
A Message from Gracie Cates - Director of Youth Ministry Hey, everyone! My name is Gracie Cates, and I am the new Director of Youth
Ministry here at Morris Chapel UMC. It is so great to be here! I received a
very warm welcome yesterday, and I met so many wonderful people. I thank
you so much for introducing yourselves to me and for welcoming me in the
way that you did! For those of you that I was not able to meet yesterday,
I look forward to meeting you soon!
I am originally from Kannapolis, NC but I am currently living in Lexington, NC.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wingate University (2011) and a Master of Divinity degree from
Duke Divinity School (2014). I am an only child but call my family dog, Murphy (a female Yorkie Poo)
my "sister." I love sports, sleeping as much as I possibly can, hanging out with my friends and family,
and participating in outdoor activities such as hiking, whitewater rafting, etc.
I am excited to be in ministry here at Morris Chapel. I really am looking forward to working with the
youth, the youth counselors, and the people of Morris Chapel as a whole.
My vision for this youth ministry is a successful one, and I hope to achieve that! First, I truly want this
ministry to be a form of community, which God intended for God's creation to be in. I want this to be a
ministry in which its members and its leaders (both new and old) are like family, a family that loves
and cares for each other, supports each other, and wants to help each other in their Christian jour-
neys. Second, I want this ministry to be a ministry that spends time learning what it means to be a
"Christian" and figuring out what that actually means for our lives. I want this ministry to actually un-
derstand the Bible and to understand how the Bible impacts our lives. I want this ministry to make dis-
ciples, people who love God and who want to share that love with other people. Third, I want this min-
istry to be fun, a ministry that celebrates the joys in our every day lives and a ministry that can laugh
and have fun with one another. All in all, I want to make relationships with God real, I want to help
youth experience God in new and unique ways, I want to help youth grow in relationship with each
other and other people at Morris Chapel, and I want to help youth grow in their relationships with
God.
This is the youth ministry and I am here to work with the youth ministry, but I want the youth to work
with Morris Chapel and to help the church succeed in its ministry as well. As I said, I want the youth
ministry to be a successful ministry. At the same time, I want the youth ministry to work alongside the
church and the church's ministry, one that seeks to transform the world by way of God and God's
amazing love and to make disciples for Jesus Christ. If you are a part of another ministry or if you are
involved in an event that the youth can be a part of, please let me know.
I want to thank you all again for the welcome yesterday morning and yesterday evening. I look forward
to working with all of you, and I hope that you are excited to work with me as well!
Gracie

Yes, it is that time of year again!!!!
I am sure you have seen the supplies already out in the stores!
From now until Sunday, August 23rd , we will be collecting school supplies for children that attend our Walkertown schools. On a side note all items collected by August 7th will be donated to school
kids who live in the area near the Morris Chapel North Campus. On Saturday, August 8th the Faith in Action Class is having a back to school event for the neighbors surrounding the North Campus.
Supplies that are needed include: Boxes of 24-ct. crayons, #2 pencils, glue sticks, spiral notebooks (wide
rule), loose leaf notebook paper (wide rule) and pocket folders.
* * * Staples, as well as many other stores, are already having back to school sales * * *
Thank you in advance for your support in helping us to provide basic supplies to some of our local Walkertown students, supplies that will hopefully help ensure that their learning for this school year
gets off to a great start! Please bring your offerings and place them in the “yellow school bus”.
Many thanks!!!!!
The Clothes Closet is in need of used
children’s clothes and shoes. We are
planning to have a Back-to-School event
on Aug 8 and I would like to have used
clothes for families. You may leave in
blue or green buckets outside the Chapel
or Family Life Center. Thank you for
your support. Sharon Burnette

REFIT® is a fitness community. Our vision is to create a fitness experience that changes people
from the inside out, and this vision is accomplished by focusing on the heart as a muscle AND a soul. REFIT is cardio dance with a focus on toning and flexibility. You move at your own pace and your own level.
People don’t have to get fit in order to be fit at REFIT® –our workouts are designed for every
body. Each person who joins our community will be welcomed into a fitness family regardless of
age, shape, size or ability.
REFIT® creates a powerful, uplifting fitness experience that lasts well beyond the workout.
REFIT is going to start on August 31 and then continue every Monday and Thursday at 7pm. I am also talking with Amy Colona about offering it Monday mornings around 9:15am after preschool drop off. Anticipate the start of the morning class to start after Labor Day.
You can follow REFITofWalkertown on Facebook or contact me for further information.
I look forward to starting this program at Morris Chapel and hope to see you at one of the classes!
