Holmes Chapel Community Newsletter Issue 9: May 2015 Working for the whole community Find us on Facebook Or Follow us @hcpartnership Message from The Partnership Chairman, Stuart Gammon: Dear Friends, Welcome to the May edition of the Community Newsletter. What a wonderful month April has been in terms of weather; it seems as though Summer is here already, even though technically we are still in Spring! The village is looking lovely with trees blossoming, daffodils out everywhere (and now over), front gardens looking great, and public areas looking clean and tidy; the maintenance of the latter is all down to the hard work put in by the Village Volunteers, Home Grown in Holmes Chapel, and ANSA (Cheshire East), who can all be justly proud of their efforts. Holmes Chapel really is a great place to live! It’s always nice to get positive feedback about this Newsletter, with several people (including my friend the dog walker) telling me that they enjoy reading it. We are always interested in your views, so if you would like to comment – or if you have an article for next edition – please email us at: [email protected] or write to me at: 41 Portree Drive, Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, CW4 7JB. The deadline for articles is the 25 th of the month preceding publication. Lastly, please feel free to pass this newsletter on to friends and family – the more the merrier; if you would like to receive a personal copy by email, please use the ‘news’ email address (above) to let us know. www.hcpartnership.org.uk Elm Drive Play and Fitness Area Update: The Project Board (comprising of representatives from Holmes Chapel Partnership and Holmes Chapel Parish Council) have split the project into two phases: Phase 1: Playarea Upgrade Work commenced on installing the new equipment in the playarea on Monday 23 rd April 2015 and should be complete by mid-May; during this period the fenced-off playarea has been closed to ALL users (but the adjacent grassed areas remain open). We are planning a formal (re)opening of the playarea on Saturday 6 th June, at 12 noon; put the date in your diary and bring a picnic! Phase 2: Creation of Fitness Area The 2014 questionnaire and subsequent public consultations indicated a demand for facilities for older children and adults, in the form of a compacted gravel walking/jogging track and outdoor exercise equipment. It is hoped that this can be completed towards the end of this year or early next year. The Project Board have discussed how the new facility can be provided and have put forward plans to site the track around the line of trees between the fenced-off playarea and the houses on the south side of the recreation area; the gym equipment will be placed inside the track, between the trees and the playarea. Our plans were on display at the Village Fair on 3 rd May for those of you which attended and, for those who missed us, please feel free to email any questions to a Partnership representative and we will be happy to help. We will keep everyone updated as plans progress – hrough our websites and this monthly Newsletter. Stuart Gammon Chair of Elm Drive Playarea Project Board

Phase 1: Playarea Upgrade Work commenced on installing the new equipment in the playarea on Monday 23rd April 2015 and should be complete by mid-May; during this period the fenced-off playarea has been closed to ALL users (but the adjacent grassed areas remain open). Holmes Chapel 10k Run: As we mentioned in a past article, and have publicised on both our Facebook page and Twitter, the Partnership is working with a new company to put on` a 10k run around the village, hopefully in late September or early October. The company we are hoping to use recently staged a very successful run in Poynton, which attracted around 300 runners, and raised funds for the town. We would like to gauge the level of interest in Holmes Chapel and the surrounding area, so would be interested in your views; we would also like to hear from local running/jogging groups and enthusiasts who can advise us when it comes to route planning. If you would like to take part, help plan the route, or just be kept informed of progress, please email [email protected]. We will maintain a list of interested folk, and will put out updates as and when the plans materialise. Stuart Gammon Chair, Holmes Chapel Partnership

Christian Aid – Lent Lunches: Thank you to everyone who supported us during Lent when we sold soup lunches in St Luke’s Church Hall. We raised the magnificent sum of £1,892.45 which has been sent to Christian Aid to help the needy around the world. Many thanks must go to those who made soup and biscuits, donated fruit etc and those who helped in any way. A special “Thank you” has also been sent to Roberts Bakery in Northwich who donated the Rolls each week. Christian Aid Week starts on Sunday, 10th May this year when we will be having our House to House Collection. Volunteers will be visiting your homes with the donation envelope. Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School and Sixth Form College Statement:

Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School and Sixth Form College’s Statement from the Governing Body regarding the likely outcomes of the current building developments in and around Holmes Chapel: The Governing Body of Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School and Sixth Form College is extremely concerned that the apparent unrestrained growth of Holmes Chapel and its’ surrounding villages is det-rimental to the wellbeing of the students attending the academy. The reasons for taking this view are:

-Holmes Chapel and District lacks the infrastructure to support a significant increase in the popula-tion of children of school age particularly with respect to education and health. Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School is oversubscribed and could not admit more children.

-Increased traffic flow, due to additional local journeys, will significantly impact in the safety of the routes that children take to and from school.

Members of the Governing Body call for planned housing developments to be suspended until a much clearer analysis of the overall impact of the piecemeal development of the local area is completed and plans put in place to ensure the local infrastructure is adequate and sustainable.

Marie Curie! Calling all Fashionistas: Holmes Chapel Marie Curie Fundraising Group are once again hosting a Fashion Show with Fizz and Jazz at Cranage Village Hall. With DIY models from ages 18 to mid 60s, and at a range of sizes, we give you the best selection of how to dress to impress in all styles this summer. Our event will be hosted at Cranage Village Hall on the evening of: Tuesday 30th June– Reserve the date! The night will include much more... But for now, get your catwalk ready and keep your eyes on this spot; all will be revealed next month. *If you would like to get involved in supporting our event, please contact Daniella on; 01477 533 730 As always, all profit made from tickets will go to Marie Curie, in addition to a percentage of all sales on the night; now if that doesn’t sound like a good excuse to go shopping and stock up your wardrobe, I don’t know what does!

If you have something you would like to pass on to the village via this free Newsletter – whether it be news of an event, fund raising, memories of Holmes Chapel in bygone days, or anything else of general interest – please email [email protected] or write to The Chairman at 41 Portree Drive, HC, CW4 7JB. Articles must be received by the 25th of the month to go in the next month’s newsletter.
