DEAR HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS: This Thursday, March 19th, is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, one of the two Solemnities we celebrate during Lent. The other one is March 25th, the Annunciation. St. Joseph was that great man of faith, the one called upon by the Lord to raise Jesus & be the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He helped to form Jesus in the ways of the Jewish faith & in being a man. Jesus had such wonderful examples in his mother & in Joseph. In reflecting on this great Saint, I recall another man named Joseph—-my father. Several weeks ago, on March 6th, was the 8th anniversary of his death. It still seems like yesterday when I received the call at 1:15 a.m. from my mom telling me he was dead. She had been called by the nursing home he had been in for just under two weeks, saying that dad was laboring. She went directly to his side & was praying the rosary when he just slept away. She was holding his hand as he left this earth, the hand that had given her love for over 63 years of marriage. St. Joseph was there at my dad’s death, I know it. Dad died being held by the love of his life. I like to think that St. Joseph died the same way—with Mary holding his hand as he passed into eternal life. St. Joseph was faithful, kind, compassionate, giving, obedient, patient, wise, merciful, among many other qualities. He is such a role model for all people, especially men. It is our duty as followers of Jesus Christ to emulate the man who gave fatherly love to the Savior of the world. This Lent, will we accept the challenge & call to be more faithful; kinder & gentler; really giving in all circumstances; obedient to the Lord in everything; truly patient; & profoundly merciful? If so, then St. Joseph will live on through us & be seen in what we do. ST. JOSEPH, PRAY FOR US! YOUR PASTOR, FATHER JOE P.S. This Tuesday, March 17th, is the Feast of St. Patrick. This is a day for all to cele-brate & be IRISH! This day is especially meaningful for us at HF as we celebrate the birthday of SISTER MARY JEROME, who hails directly from the Emerald Isle. May your day be one of joy & peace, Sister, because you bring such joy & peace through your demeanor. May St. Patrick & St. Dominic intercede for you this Tuesday & every day. DON’T FORGET—-STATIONS at 6:30 p.m. Mon., March 16, preceded by a 6:00 p.m. Mass; & on Fri., March 20 at 2:30 p.m. AREA LENTEN COMMUNAL RECONCILIATION SERVICES: Holy Family March 29 2:30 p.m.

EVER THOUGHT OF BEING A PRIEST? God may be calling you right now to serve Him by being a priest for the Diocese of Springfield. If you may be interested, call Fr. Joe at 423-6223. He’d be happy to guide you in your discernment. Let us continue to pray for more priestly vocations, especially from Holy Family Parish! And let us pray for over 20 seminarians we have now & for the 8 men to be ordained priests in May, 2020.

St. Patrick April 5 2:30 p.m.

ALMIGHTY GOD, GIVER OF ALL LIFE, WE BEG YOU TO CHANGE THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF MANY OF OUR STATE AND

NATIONAL LEADERS WHO PROMOTE THE SIN AND EVIL OF ABORTION. PLEASE MOVE THEM TO SEE THE ERROR OF THEIR STANCE, AND TO REALIZE HOW THEY ARE ALLOWING THE SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS. HELP US, AS CATHOLIC CHRIS-TIANS, TO PROMOTE LIFE IN THE WOMB AND OUT-SIDE THE WOMB. MAY ALL OF US WHO BREATHE AND LIVE IN THE PRESENCE OF OUR LORD ALLOW OTHERS TO DO THE SAME, NO MATTER THE CIR-CUMSTANCES. YOU CREATED ALL LIFE. YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE TO TAKE LIFE. PERIOD. AMEN.

ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!!

The Coronavirus has become a worldwide concern in the last weeks. Too many have become infected & lost their lives. Countries & governments are working diligently to combat this latest dis-ease. We need to pray for all those who have died, are sick, & all those caring for them & their families. In the wake of this situation, all of us need to act sensibly when we are at Mass. For instance—-at the Sign of Peace, let us not shake hands or make contact with those outside our immediate family. We may just say words of peace, nod at others, or wave, in order that you do not come into contact. That is perfectly acceptable. And don’t be offended if someone gives a “non-contact” type of response. Also, WE ARE SUSPENDING THE COMMUNION CUP indefinitely. This is to “err on the side of caution.” This will protect all Communion Ministers, as well as anyone receiving. These guidelines will hopefully help us all. The Mass is a time of celebration & unity & joy. Let us continue to worship wisely & prudently. THANK YOU!!! —-FATHER JOE

GOOD LUCK! We are very proud of two young men from our parish who will compete this weekend at the State Swimming Competition. They are Allan Lane, an 8th grade homeschooler, & Colton Hargrove, a 3rd grader at HFCS. What a wonderful accomplishment for them. Good luck to you, Allan & Colton, & know of our support!!

LENT LENT LENT LENT

GOOD LUCK! We wish St. Teresa HS Junior Sammy Tapscott good luck as he competed this week at State for the 3-point basketball shooting competition. Way to go, Sammy, on making it this far & for representing St. Teresa & our area in this competition!!!

“COME WITH ME” Those words above can be very powerful. They are very inviting, thought-provoking, hospitable, inclusive, & much more. How about saying those 3 words to someone you know who have fallen away from the Catholic Church or hasn’t been attending Mass? I bet we all know people who once graced our pews, but are now absent. Invite them to COME BACK!
