Sr. Darlene, says that that she is really "proud of our staff" and because of their immediate and enduring willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty at all levels they have really formed a family bond in the Home.
As heart-wrenching reports come in about various disasters associated with care homes in other parts of the country and internationally, Winnipeg is truly blessed to have a place like Holy Family where they found a way to deal with all the complications and pressure imposed by the pandemic. The staff and sisters truly are Heroes! God willing, when the pandemic passes, we too will be able to express our gratitude to them all for their living the Christian virtues - not least of all: charity, kindness and fortitude! The Head of UGCC: the coronavirus pandemic is a radical call of God to people: stop waging wars against each other You can hear a lot if you listen to God and try to understand how a person can build a new culture and civilization in a new way. The key to building a “new world” is the commandment of love, which renews those who practice it and who live by it. This request was made by Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church His Beatitude Sviatoslav during the Open Church program on Zhyve TV. Sonia Koshkina, editor -in-chief of the online publication Liviv Bereh, took part in the conversation. Speaking about the reasons why and for what God allowed the situation with the pandemic, the Primate of the UGCC admitted that he does not have an answer to this question. However, he urged everyone to ask God about this every day, listen to His voice, and try to understand what He wants to tell us. His Beatitude Sviatoslav shared his own thoughts on the cause of the coronavirus pandemic. “If we analyze the situation with the virus,” says the Head of the Church, “we begin to see that we are living in a period of fundamental and global cataclysms and changes. The ecological crisis in the world is the basis for the mutation of this virus. We don't know if there will be another pandemic in the world after we overcome the coronavirus.” “Today we feel a deep shock in nature. There is a feeling that nature is beginning to defend itself against man. That is why it is important for us to rethink our attitude to the environment very seriously,” he said. He also added: “Perhaps this will also help us today to rethink global relations between different political centers and, finally, to stop fighting each other. Stop investing in weapons.” The Head of the Church drew attention to the fact that to this day Ukraine is at the epicentre of a new geopolitical game and is suffering from war. He also drew attention to the global consequence of the pandemic - the economic crisis. "We see that the sanitary crisis is creating an economic crisis. There is a lot of talk about the recession of the world economy, which may be worse than in the early twentieth century. We need to build a more harmonious economic system in the world. It is important for us to understand how to distribute our resources equitably," he said. "I was very concerned about the statement of one of the UN spokesmen, who spoke about the dangers of world hunger. It says that there may be a famine on a biblical scale. We must hear not only those suffering from coronavirus, but also those who suffer from the unfair distribution of resources in the world," stressed the Father and Head of the UGCC. 16 May 2020, 12:20—UGCC Department for Information

Слава Ісусу Христу! - Glory to Jesus Christ! Слава На Віки! - Glory For Ever!
On this joyous Feast of Pentecost, we celebrate the birth of the Church. The Apostles were empowered by the Holy Spirit to go out and preach the Gospel of Christ, Absolute and pure Love and Truth, throughout the world, to all the nations. All peoples are called to become members of the Mystical Body of Christ, the Church. We become members of the Church when we are baptized in the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

My Jesus
I believe that You are present in the
Most Holy Sacrament
I love You above all things and I
desire to receive You into my soul
Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
Come at least spiritually into my
heart.
I embrace You as if You were
already there and unite myself
wholly to You
Never permit me to be separated
from You.
We pray in hope that God’s healing power may touch those parishioners
who are sick.

THE HEROES OF HOLY FAMILY HOME Anyone who passes through the Winnipeg intersection of Main and Redwood will have seen the well-deserved banners on the northern and the western walls of Holy Family Home - "Heroes Work Here". Holy Family is one of several personal care homes throughout the city and province that strives to provide the best possible care for the elderly residents. That seemingly straight forward task, however, has become very complicated since the global coronavirus pandemic was declared. This immediately restricted access, visitation rights and even staff and supplies. However, as the home was founded by and remains under the direction of the religious community of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate - the spirit of the Gospel and the rich and ever-resilient Ukrainian Catholic Faith has guided the establishment through the challenge.
Sr. Darleane Pelechaty, SSMI, a director on the board of the Home, has nothing but praise for the entire staff that has really rallied together since the Covid-19 restrictions precluded family members and volunteers from helping out. Family and any other visitors may only visit if it is an "end of life" situation. As far as the pastoral and sacramental needs of the residents is concerned, Fr. Bohdan Lukie, CSsR, who himself is a resident on the campus of the newly expanded Holy Family Home complex, is on hand to provide any requested services. The community of Sisters that maintain their residence at the east end of the campus, are also in the mix of available staff. While the staff of caregivers deals with the basic medical and daily needs of the residents, the Sisters help out with that by, for example, feeding those residents that need assistance. The Sisters also see to recreation, technology and, of course, religious events. The residents, albeit in their own rooms or in smaller common areas in each unit, are able to tune into live-streamed
services and prayer events throughout the week.
The outgoing CEO of the Home, Mr. Jean Piché, was very instrumental in overseeing the amazing response to the unexpected crisis. He and his team and his Board were right on top of the coronavirus threat from the very beginning. It is notable that Holy Family Home was the first Personal Care Home to implement an effective screening process for anyone entering the Home. In fact, the remaining staff see to this screening 24/7 as essential workers need to come day and night.

Resumption of Public Liturgies in the Archeparchy of Winnipeg
On May 20-21 the media has reported on changes made by the Manitoba Health Authority re public gatherings related to the Covid 19 virus. The easing of these restrictions affects our church life and especially gatherings for liturgical services. The Archeparchy is preparing an important set of directives for this purpose, which, when issued, must be studied and agreed to by all parish priests and parish councils before public liturgical services can resume. These directives will be issued during the week of May 25. Until that time, [including Sunday, May 24], restrictions as outline in the Archeparchy Directive # 4 remain in place.
Happy Vyshyvanka Day.- ДЕНЬ ВИШИВАНКИ 2020
Every year on the third Thursday in May we celebrate the Ukrainian embroidered shirt - the vyshyvanka. More than a traditional clothing piece, the vyshyvanka has come to be a symbol of unity that connects Ukrainians worldwide. At a time when we aren't able to physically come together, may the vyshyvanka hold the common thread that stitches us together. Although we wish we could gather to celebrate in person this year, we are excited to celebrate with friends beyond our Manitoba borders! We reached out to musicians, artists, academics and politicians that are connected to Oseredok to bring everyone greetings on Vyshyvanka Day.
