TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 13, 2019

Page 2 HolyRosaryNorthMankato.com | LoyolaCatholicSchool.org

In the first centuries of the Church, when the Sacrament of Confession was established, it was a “public” affair. The sacrament was celebrated publicly before the assembly. Some religious orders had a residue that existed all the way though the 20th century that was referred to as the “Chapter of Faults.” The “Chapter of Faults” was not necessarily the confession of sins, but perhaps how the holy rule had been broken, such as drinking a glass of water during a time of fasting, not turning out a light, stealing a glance of oneself in a mirror or reflection in some glass pane. I know it sounds severe, but with that in mind, I publicly accuse myself as pastor that although I am the pastor of a parish dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, over the last half-a-decade, I do not feel that I have done much to strengthen this strong tradition and devotion in the Church of why we should recite the Rosary. In my defense, I grew up with the rosary, and I have a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother with statues or images of her in virtually every room of my home. Yet, the priest is first and foremost

“And one of them, realizing that he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked Him.” -St. Luke

supposed to be a teacher, and so teacher I will be when it comes to the Rosary. Tradition holds that the Blessed Mother appeared to the great St. Dominic, who would later found the Dominicans, an order noted for their ability to preach. She requested him to preach and proclaim the spiritual benefits of the recitation of the Rosary daily, not only to his followers, but to all of the faithful. The Blessed Virgin Mary promised to Saint Dominic and to all who follow that, "Whatever you ask in the Rosary will be granted." She left for all Christians Fifteen Promises to those who recite the Holy Rosary: 1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of

the Rosary, shall receive signal graces. 2. I promise my special protection and the greatest

graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary. 3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it

will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies. 4. The Rosary will cause virtue and good works to flourish;

it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire for eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.

8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.

9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.

11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.

12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.

13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.

14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons and daughters, and brothers and sisters of my only Son Jesus Christ.

Stewardship Of Gratitude

We had a good weekend last weekend for selling dinner tickets for the November Fest Dinner as we sold some 125 tickets! Not bad! Of course we still have a ways to go to sell 600. We have been selling tickets since the time of our Mass in the Park. As I mentioned last week, consider buying additional tickets and invite your friends and neighbors to join your for the Western Mass and then to come downstairs and enjoy a Pulled Pork Diner with all of the trimmings. Last weekend another full tray of tickets were picked up which was WONDERFUL! At this time, 75% of the raffle tickets have been picked up before we have had to mail out the remainder. Of course, just picking up the tickets is of little value if people do not return them in a timely fashion. As pastor, it took me all of two minutes to fill them out and write the check. While that did not take long, the good felling that I did something good for the church and that I have chance to win felt pretty good as well. As always, thank you for your gifts!!!

Stewardship of Gratitude

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“Only lovers see the fall a signal end to endings a gruffish gesture alerting those who will not be alarmed that we begin to stop in order to begin again.”

Maya Angelou’s - “Late October”

Welcome to Holy Rosary!

You can also simply send us your contact information via an easy-to-use form and we will mail you a hard copy of those forms. Come join our growing Holy Rosary parish family!

15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination. In this month of October that is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, I encourage and invite you as parents and families, spouses and students to try to spend just 15 minutes reciting the Rosary on a daily basis. Our family recited the Rosary every day growing up before we retired for the night. Many times we would say the Rosary in the car, which I still do to this day or when I am out for an evening walk. (There are some wonderful apps out there to assist with the Rosary so that you feel you are saying this beautiful prayer in community.) We are in a time of the Church’s history that we need the graces of Mary who was told by the angel that she was filled with grace so that the name Holy Rosary is more than words etched in stone but etched forever in our hearts that will lead us to everlasting life. Mary, Queen of the Saints and the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death! Rev. Paul van de Crommert Pastor

November Fest

News

Nov. 3, 2019

Time is Running Out: It is hard to believe, but we are only 3 weeks away from our 5th Annual November Fest. We have a lot of ground to cover before the big day. We had a GREAT WEEKEND last week for selling dinner tickets as well as for picking up Raffle Tickets. 75% of our Raffle Tickets have now been picked up which is EXCELLENT, and we are approaching the ONE THIRD goal for dinner tickets, as we sold last weekend around 125 DINNER TICKETS and are nearing almost 200 tickets sold so far. SO….. we are close to being on target. However, we still have quite a ways to go at this point! Silent Auction Items: Our Silent Auction items are trickling in slowly but surely. We had a lot of folks pick up baskets and we know people pick up and also prepare their own baskets or donate new quality items to the festival Silent Auction. We have received some really beautiful baskets in the last days. Keep them coming. Any new or quality item is welcomed and this is a big stewardship success of our day.

Grandma’s Attic: During the moths of summer we have received a sizable amount of quality items from parishioners that were downsizing

and/or moving out of their homes. The “Grandma” volunteers have been hard at work over the past months taking inventory and sorting through the many boxes of goodies that have been gifted to the parish. It is a cornucopia of quality and interesting items. We are still welcoming more items. If you have items to donate you are welcome to stop by the school and drop your things off on the right hand side of the main entrance. Thank you for the many items that you have already donated. Come NOW with Your Canning!

Please share your bountiful harvest! Feel free to drop off canned items during office hours or bring them to the sacristy on the weekend.

Father’ Furniture Finds: Finding quality furniture and then reselling these items at the auction has also become a very successful stewardship department. Last year, people were already wanting to purchase items when I was finishing up after Mass. This year we will have fixed prices on the furniture which you may purchase at the time, but if you are willing to wait and haggle, Father will be over shortly. We hope you take a look on the day of the festival and see what we have to offer. We are still welcoming additional items as well up until the day!

Finally…Don’t Forget the Date! November 3rd!

I know that we live in a day and age

where there are many things that are

competing for our time, talent and

treasure. Hopefully, on Sunday, November

3rd, you might prioritize your parish and this important day

above those things! If you are a Vikings fan we will also

have a big screen television as well! Gosh….there really is

no excuse is there? Thank you!

NO Class this Week –

October 16th Please note that there will be no classes this week on Wednesday, October 16th, due to the long MEA

weekend. However, classes will resume on Wednesday October 23rd at 6:00 P.M. Enjoy the days off as a family.

First Confirmation Class This

Sunday! Following the 10:00 A.M. Mass, we will gather for a light lunch downstairs followed by class on the first floor of our former school building. Parents and siblings are also welcome to join us for lunch if they wish.

Diocesan Required Training The Diocese requires annually, a portion of class time to do prepared instruction through the VIRTUS program. If you do not wish to have your son or daughter participate in this program next week on October 23rd, please call the Parish Office before this date.

Are Your Children Going to

Be Absent From Class? If your son or daughter is sick or for some other reason not able to attend class

on Wednesday evening, it would be greatly appreciated if you would contact the Parish Office sometime on Wednesday or before class. If we do not have an excused absence, we are obligated to check with the household. In an age of abduction, it would save us a great deal of time calling if you could call the office and let us know if your child will be absent. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Sunday Nursery Suspended Over the last years, the use of the nursery has dramatically declined on Sunday morning at the 10:00 A.M. for various reasons from fewer small children attending to parents preferring to keep their little ones with them during the liturgy and/or in the cry room. It was equally difficult to find volunteers to staff the nursery and who also must abide by Virtus training requirements. Many weeks volunteers were in place in the past year, but there were no children that needed the service. Therefore we are suspending the Sunday morning nursery indefinitely and instead will be providing activity bags at the entrance of the church for parents and their children to make use of during the liturgy and to return the bags after Mass for use the following week. Perhaps this will be a solution to providing some activity for our youngest of parishioners. Watch for these activity bags at the main entrance in the coming weeks. Thank you!

Community Meal -

November 13th The Education Committee recommended last spring that we

would suspend the weekly Community Meals. While the program started out strong it waned towards the end. One of the concerns that was brought up was that many people would like to know the menu in advance and that perhaps just having the meals once a month would make the event much more special. While we had an Ice Cream Social at our Opening Mass in September, and this past Wednesday in October the Knights of Columbus hosted a social after the Living Rosary, our first Community Meal will be held on Wednesday, November 13th from 5:00 – 6:00 P.M. The meal will be “Tacos in a Bag”. Everyone in the parish is welcome to attend. A free will offering would be welcome. We hope that the young and not so young will be in attendance. We hope to see many of you there!

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

continues this weekend during the 10:00

A.M. Mass. The children gather downstairs in the lower

hall classroom to reflect on the readings of Mass through

age appropriate language as well as engage in activities

related to the Mass and the readings. The children return

to their places at the time of the preparation of the gifts,

giving them a chance to make their offering to the Lord

and also gathering around the Eucharistic table.

Stepping Up in Faith Collected this week: $100.00 Received to date: $83,217.22 Goal: $175,000.00 I am beginning to lose my faith …… in that the front steps will not be completed before the winter comes. As I write this on Tuesday evening the forecast for the weekend is our first taste of snow. Last year the roofing company was also delayed in coming to put a new roof on the school. As the winter was approaching they indicated that it could still be done in colder weather but I declined and decided to wait until the weather warmed up. I know that construction is now taking place all 12 months, but I am still concerned about cement being poured in the dead of winter. I know that the weather has pushed everything back in the construction business. Unless things happen quickly, we may be looking at doing the project in the spring of 2020. We will wait and see what happens.

October is Domestic Violence

Awareness Month

Domestic violence affects millions, both women and men, of every race, religion, culture and status. It’s not just punches and

black eyes -- it’s yelling, humiliation, stalking, manipulation, coercion, threats and isolation. It’s stealing a paycheck, keeping tabs online, non-stop texting, constant use of the silent treatment, or calling someone stupid so often they believe it. Over 1,500 women are killed each year in the United States by their current or former partners. That is over half of all murders of females. 1 in 4 women will experience some form of domestic violence in their lifetime. Most incidents are not reported to law enforcement. Let us pray for an end to violence in any relationship, and make us instruments for God’s love and peace our own homes. Let us support those who are struggling to leave unhealthy and unholy relationships, and pray for their safety and the safety of their children.

Participants will meet once weekly to share stories, explore the process of grief and healing, and find comport in knowing they are not alone. The group will meet Wednesdays, Oct. 30th - Dec. 18th, 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. at St. John the Baptist Church, 632 Broad St. The group is free of charge, but limited to 10 participants, so early registration is encouraged. For more information or to register, call 507-594-2989.

Calling All Singers! I heard many compliments about how well the choir sang a couple of weeks ago under the direction of our new choral director, Michael Steimel.

We would like to encourage more people to join the choir. For those students who are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, it would be a great opportunity for service hours and it also would be a lot of fun as opposed to doing some physical work! Both at daily Mass and on the weekends I hear many good singers as I come down the aisle. Why not come to choir and see how much fun they have? The next choir practice will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd, at 6:00 P.M.. Everyone should share some of their time and talent with the parish beyond attending the weekend Masses. How about you???
