Discerning the GOOD & BAD: Everyone wants to do good - or to be good anyway, but there are others out there - be it people or situations or circumstances or simply “bad luck” that things are not happening the way it should happen. In the coming week we are reminded that however hard life maybe - be in our dealings with others or situations, we just have to believe that there is a way out, that is, a solution to every problem. We have to ask God to give us the spirit of FORTITUDE, trusting that the Lord always knows what we need to say, and what we need to do, and that we ask a
spirit of WISDOM. It is God‟s own Spirit that lead our hearts.
The 1st Reading addresses God directly as the all-powerful one who cares for everything he has made. Though he is the God of strength and justice, he is also lenient and merciful – and so we, too, must try to act with kindness, even when we are challenged. The Psalmist praises the Lord‟s good-ness and mighty deeds, yet again reminds us that he is slow to anger. We can ask our loving, com-passionate God to turn to us whenever we are in need. The short second reading offers us great hope, for it assures us that we can hand over to the Lord any struggles we experience in prayer. St Paul tells of the in-dwelling Spirit of God, who prays within each one of us whether we can find the right words or not. Jesus tells three parables about growth in the Gospel. In the first, someone has sabotaged a field of good wheat by planting darnel (weeds). Yet Jesus invites us to think carefully and be patient. If we hurry to pull out the weeds we might end up sacrificing the whole crop, instead of allowing God to work in his own time. The Gospel tells us that the enemy will sow weeds among the
good seeds we have planted, or the good deeds we have done. That‟s just how life is sometimes.
This week, perhaps we might ask the Lord for a deeper trust to share all things with him in my prayer,
even those things we find it hardest to express – knowing that he already sees and understands.
We ask the Lord to help us recognise those things that we may simply need to „let be‟ for the time being, and for a greater trust in God‟s love for the whole world, for our family, and for ourselves.
Formation & Training Courses for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
The Liturgy Office has arranged for the above-mentioned course to be held on Wednesday 23 & 30 August 2017 at St Ambrose Catholic Primary School, Cnr Consett & Stuart Streets, Concord West NSW 2138
This programme is for those who, with the support of their Parish Priest, are or will soon be assisting as ―Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion‖. This is also a pre-requisite course for those who wish to attend the Acolytes training courses.
Both nights are to be attended to receive the Certificate. Teachers from Primary Schools are ―encouraged‖ to attend this course.
