FROM THE DESK OF THE ADMINISTRATOR

Like the song from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons, “Overture, curtains, lights, This is it, the night of nights. No more rehearsing and nursing a part; we know every part by heart. Overture, curtains, lights, this is it, you’ll hit the heights! And oh what heights we’ll hit! On with the show this is it!”* As we celebrate Palm Sunday, we enter into the most important week of the year, Holy Week. This week is every sports championship, awards show, gala cele-bration rolled up into one. Make EVERY EFFORT to come this week. On 15, 16, and 17 April, following the 6:40 AM and 8:00 AM Masses, confessions will be available for one hour. TUESDAY. Two things are happening. The ASP Reli-gious Education students will present the Living Stations beginning at 6:30 PM in the Church. A Communal Pen-ance Service with five Priests hearing confessions will be held at HSP beginning at 7:00 PM until all confessions are heard. HOLY THURSDAY. In the morning, at 10:00 AM, the Diocese celebrates the Chrism Mass at St. Paul Cathe-dral. It is here that the Oils of the Sick and Catechumens as well as the Sacred Chrism are blessed by the Bishop. This is the Church at its finest. Come in person or watch the live stream on Christian Associates Televi-sion. That evening at 7:00 PM ASP, SBP, and HSP will celebrate the Evening Mass Mass of the Lord’s Supper, commemorating the Eucharist, the Priesthood, and ser-vice. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be at ALL FOUR CHURCHES from 8:30 -11:30 PM. ASP’s Men’s Club will be praying the Rosary and Tenebrae this evening beginning at approximately 10 PM. GOOD FRIDAY. The parishes will gather at 1 PM at SNP, 2 PM at SBP, and 3 PM at ASP to celebrate the Pas-sion of the Lord recalling his passion, the wood of the cross, and Holy Communion. At 7:00 PM, Stations of the Cross will be offered only at SBP. Tenebrae will be of-fered at HSP beginning at 7:30 PM. HOLY SATURDAY. Easter Baskets will be blessed at Noon at SNP, 12:30 at ASP, 1 PM at HSP and 1:30 PM at SBP. The great Easter Vigil will be celebrated at 8:30 PM via Light, Word, Water, and Eucharist ONLY at SBP with your entire assigned clergy team present. EASTER SUNDAY. Masses are at the usual times with two additions, a 10:05 and 12:30 at SBP.

See you in Church a bunch this week! Fr. Jim Gretz *Lyrics from http://www.metrolyrics.com/this-is-it-bugs-bunny-overture-lyrics-televisiontv-theme-lyrics-kids-shows.html, accessed 11 March 2017.

SHARING OF TIME, TALENT AND TREASURE

As we begin the holiest of weeks, at every level, we are called upon to share our time, talent and treas-ure in a responsive way by sharing the goodness that God has so abundantly given to each of us. Your Parish Share contribution is a way of together carrying on the work of Christ in our diocesan church. In so many ways, Parish Share is our collective effort to evangelize by meeting the needs of those around us. As Bishop Zubik states “I pray that I can count on your ongoing support for all the ministries of your parishes and of the wider Church of Pittsburgh through Par-ish Share.”

TUESDAY: COMMUNAL PENANCE SERVICE On Tuesday, April 16th, a Communal Penance Service will be held beginning at 7:00 pm at Holy Spirit Church—includes individual confessions with five priests present. If it has been some time since your last confession, plan to take

advantage of this special additional opportunity.

SATURDAY: BLESSING OF EASTER FOOD On Holy Saturday families bring deco-rated baskets of food which will be eaten to mark the end of the pen-ances of Lent and the celebration of the Resurrection. Easter food bless-ings will take place in all of our four churches on Holy Saturday, April 20th: Noon at SN; 12:30pm at AS; 1:00pm at HS and 1:30pm at SB.

HOLY THURSDAY MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPER

During the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, April 18th at 7:00 pm at Holy Spirit Church, volunteers are needed to be part of the ceremony of the “washing of the feet.” The twelve

volunteers should sit on the end of each ribbon-designated pew. You will be asked to remove one shoe and sock. Father will come to your pew, wash and dry your foot. Those willing to volunteer should contact the parish office at 412-821-4424.

LITTLE WHITE BOOKS FOR THE EASTER SEASON A limited supply of the “Little White Books for Easter” are available at the all entrances of HS and SN. Those who enjoyed the Blue Books for Advent as well as the Black Books for Lent are encouraged to consider this spiritual book for the Easter Season. A donation of $1.00 per book will help cover expenses.

Also, we have the Easter 2019 edition of the “Five Minutes with the Word” booklets. These are free of charge and are in limited supply as well.

TENEBRAE—EVENING OF GOOD FRIDAY The word “Tenebrae” is Latin for “Shadows” or “darkness.” The Tene-brae Service has an ancient tradition that usually took place during the Tridium. The purpose of this service was to remember the somber events that occurred in Jesus’ life from the exuberant entrance into Jerusalem through the night of Jesus’ burial on Good Friday. We will be celebrating the “Tenebrae” service on Good Fri-day, April 19th at Holy Spirit Church at 7:30pm. This unique service is sure to enhance your Holy Week ex-perience. CRS RICE BOWLS

Don’t forget to turn in your Lenten Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl donations. There are baskets in the sanctuary area of both churches where the rice bowls can be placed. This is a special way of responding to global issues of hunger, migration and pov-

erty. Thank you for your contribution.

HOLY LAND COLLECTION Every year on Good Friday, a collec-tion is taken up in Catholic Churches to support the work of the Franciscans work-ing in the Holy Land. Christians there rely heavily on the help that comes to them during this special day in the Church and our life of faith. The Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land have the unique responsibility of caring for the Holy Places as well as caring for the Christians living in the Holy Land. It is vital that we care for the Christians living in the Holy Land in order to maintain a Christian presence there. Please be generous with your Good Friday contribution.

Holy Week: Etna, Glenshaw, Millvale (EGM)

BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD – Today we celebrant the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The crowds waved palm and olive branches as Jesus rode into the city on a colt. They welcomed him as royalty, so moved were their hearts in faith and trust of God. Yet, while Christ’s procession into the city is a moment of joy, the joy is fleeting as the com-ing days lead to the passion and death of Jesus. The central mysteries of our faith that we cele-brate this week highlight for us the lengths to which God will go out of love for us. It is appropri-

ate to ask ourselves, then, what lengths will we go to for God. As we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! it is not just our parishes that we should hope to be transformed. We should also hope that our hearts and transformed in love and service of God and others. How are we called to be ambassadors of Christ, coming in his name to share the life and light of God with everyone we meet? On Mission invites us to be representatives of Christ before others that they may know his loving work in the world today. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.
