Mission and Ministries Renewal
How is the Holy Spirit
calling you?
Witness and mission are
Gospel demands for
those who follow Christ.
Christians fulfill their
prophetic mission by evangelization, that is, proc-
lamation of Christ by word and the testimony of
their lives. Please discern how you might offer
your gifts and participation for the renewal of our
parish in its liturgical, catechetical, and social
ministries. Please fill out a “Commitment Form”
and return it in the basket provided at the
back of the church.
Thank You! We are all the Body of Christ!

The Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) has pub-lished its response to Medical Assistance in Dying: A Patient-Centred Approach, the report of the federal government’s Special Joint Commit-tee on Physician-Assisted Dying. The recommendations made in the report are both disappointing and stunning. The committee recom-mends that “medical assistance in dying” (MAID) be provided to pa-tients with both terminal and non-terminal conditions, including those suffering from psychiatric illness. It also recommends that “mature minors” be considered eligible for MAID within three years following the passage of the legislation and that advanced requests be made avail-able any time after diagnosis. There are no safeguards that can pro-tect people when there is a law making it legal to take a life! For more detailed information go to www.colf.ca.

Let Us Campaign Against Assisted Suicide!
The Government of Canada has introduced Bill C-14, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and to make related amendments to other Acts (medical assistance in dying). This proposed legislation, which responds to the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada in early 2015, will make euthanasia and assisted suicide legal and more accessi-ble in our entire country. The Supreme Court decision and current legislative efforts are in stark contradiction to the endeavours of individuals, families and communities to counteract the dangers and sufferings of suicide. To ex-press your concerns about the legislation, visit www.canadiansforconscience.ca.
The following campaigns are promoted by the Cana-dian Catholic Bishops. Each campaign provides background information on euthanasia and assisted
suicide:
Respect for Conscience Campaign http://www.canadiansforconscience.ca/
Life-giving Love--campaign for palliative care, and against euthanasia and assisted suicide http://www.lifegivinglove.com/
Freedom of conscience and religion campaign (Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver) http://rcav.org/assisted-suicide/ Every Life Matters (Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton) This cam-paign includes a website with a video to help parishes and ordinary Catholics understand the issues involved, and provides a list of practical suggestions on how to choose life.
