SCUCC iConnect SCUCC's weekly update on what's going on at the church as of March 21, 2019 This Sunday in Worship 3/24 This Sunday is the third week of our worship series: Seasons of Discernment. As Progressive Christians, ours is an ever evolving faith, which is centered on a dynamic God with whom we are called to co-create. Ideally, we’re never standing still or moving backwards, but always discerning divinely guided next steps and moving forward accordingly. This week's theme is "Vocation, Presence, Identity, & Time," and worship will be led by Rev. Carol Reynolds with music by the Livia Gho, Jonathan Maranville & Jubilate Bells. We explore the foundational things we can seek to prayerfully discern, including the vocation(s) to which we are called, the presence of Christ in our midst, our true identities, and the optimal time to act, wait, or be led. This Sunday is the third week of our worship series: Seasons ofDiscernment. As Progressive Christians, ours is an ever evolvingfaith, which is centered on a dynamic God with whom we arecalled to co-create. Ideally, we’re never standing still or movingbackwards, but always discerning divinely guided next steps andmoving forward accordingly.

This week's theme is "Vocation, Presence, Identity, &Time," and worship will be led by Rev. Carol Reynoldswith music by the Livia Gho, Jonathan Maranville &Jubilate Bells.

Some of our church laymembers will also come and share their impressions and experiences of SCUCC.

Global Ministries: Pray with Mexico 3/24

Pray with Mexico Sunday, March 24, 2019BY CARLOS SEDILES-REAL

Lectionary Selection: Luke 13:1-9

Prayers for Mexico:

God of grace and mercy,

Amid pain and death, you accompany uswith your saving presence. Assuming ourhumanity, you stand in solidarity withthe causes of oppression and injustice.Forgive us for being indifferent and forour lack of faith and commitment tojustice. Teach us to be sensitive to themany situations of violence and despair that many of our brothers and sistersexperience around the world.

Open our eyes to see the new opportunities you offer us in your grace. Encourage us totransform the realities of death for signs of life and hope.

We accept with gratitude your protection and your care, recognizing that in your mercywe can find the joy and peace we need. Fill us with your Spirit so that in it we can bearthe fruit of love and justice.

May the word of the gospel that we share help us to find ourselves with God's grace andmercy. Help us overcome our vision of retribution, which makes us believe that Godonly helps the "good" and punishes the "sinners." Cause us to live a genuine life ofconversion (metanoia), where change occurs not only our mind but also our heart.

May the gospel be good news for those who seek new opportunities. The fig tree inthe parable was in a privileged situation. It was not unusual in Jesus' time to see figtrees and other fruit trees in the vineyards. The good land was scarce, and it had to beused well; the fig tree had good opportunities, but it did not take advantage of them. This story echoes with the overabundance of God's grace. We pray that when the Lordof the vineyard comes, God will find fruits in our lives: fruits of conversion, mercy, andjustice.
