As a designer, I am very proud to contribute to the content of this book.The attention, the respect and the ambition of the publisher and the driving force behind the collections presented in the book, inspired me to be part of its creation.

There are two types of designers: those who have their own character and style and thus innovate and create exciting col-lections and those who create a personal style for their clients.I dedicated my life to the latter.My main goal is to listen, observe and analyze well and to translate the information of my customers to a realizable prod-uct with added value.

A coach or a sofa must be comfortable, but it is also a design-ers duty to make the buyer or user happy, to give furniture a soul, and to continuously strive for balance and beauty.One can invent a line, a collection or a model that is modern, timeless or avant-garde, but it is even more important that the manufacturer, the publisher or the marketeer show the furni-ture in the right setting.

This book proves that the presented designers were success-ful in doing this. That is why I wanted to put my soul into it.

Let me introduce myself.

I am Hans Daalder, 51 years old, husband and father (a pretty good one, I think), runner (not such a good one) and furniture designer.

Honestly, the most beautiful profession that exists!

How do I work?I talk a lot to furniture manufacturers, technicians and vendors about the wishes of our customers. The world changes quick-ly and our products need to respond to that.

Todays consumer is very well informed, and our furniture has to cater for all the needs in terms of looks, comfort, sustaina-bility and quality. And of course, always at the right price.

Do I work alone?Certainly not! Our designers develop concepts in consultation with our customers and production experts. It is also impor-

tant to reflect on the quality of a design. We always question ourselves: Is this good enough? Would I decorate my own home with this piece of furniture?If Mariksa, my assistant at the studio says: I would like to have that myself, we are on the right track. I am nobody without my team. That is what I often say.

How do I work with Passe-Partout?Dirk Steenbeeke and I have a match! We understand each other well and know what the other wants. That is important to grow towards the perfect collection. Enthusiasm is also of major importance. But all of this is very good. Dirk is one of the most passionate men I have ever known. We keep each other on our toes and we can be open and honest. Always respect-ful and with a positive mindset and striving to be the best!

Hustle and bustle, work, traffic, grocer-ies, everybody and everything connect-ed. At home people want to slow down. Whats better than to snuggle up by the fire, watching excellent TV series, or spending long evenings with friends, a good glass of wine, discussing life? Now Im a bit particular about furniture. De-sign, colours and ergonomics must feel good. I appreciate details like the right angle of a seat and back such that you, for example, dont keep slipping for-ward. Beauty can come in many ways. For me, real beauty goes hand in hand with the comfort.

Furniture, fine arts, interior decoration, architecture, graphics, I have this design urge. Im almost obsessed when work-ing on a project, its always on my mind. Inspiration I find by walking in nature, traveling, reading and by looking around

me all the time! Photobooks with work of artists, interior or photography, designs in a totally different area, like ceramics or buildings, or articles about societal trends can be an idea-starter. My whole desk will be covered with scribbles and sketches. Soon I start in 3D on the com-puter to get a better idea of the real dimensions, the proportions, the view from different sides. With soft furniture it helps to paste a fabric onto the design, though folds, wrinkles and seams are difficult to construct. It doesnt matter for me, I feel the fluffiness of a cushion in my mind.

What makes a piece of furniture stand out? I want to create a serene and at the same time interesting appearance, a luxury yet minimalistic, a graceful yet cozy object, made from beautiful, sus-tainable materials, an object with a soul.

So does Passe-partout.

Working with Passe-Partout is fun! Dirk Steenbeke is a passionate entrepre-neur, inspiring, always looking for im-provement. He loves to talk, think out loud about what he likes to achieve with Passe-Partout. I like to listen to his line of thoughts, the atmospheres that he sketches in such a way that new imag-es start to pop up in my head.

I love working with the experts in the fac-tory, starting dialogue in an early stage. Together we push the limits and com-bine design, ergonomics, craftsmanship and quality to, in the end, realize time-less, comfortable furniture.

BRANZINO IN CROSTA DI SALE

RECIPE:

Sea bass, 2 kg of sea salt, 2 egg whites, 100 grams of butter, asparagus (5 pp), shrimps, salt and pepper, basil.

Mix the sea salt with the egg whites.

Put a layer of the mixture on the bottom of your ovenproof dish.

Season the inside of the fish with salt and fill it with basil (other herbs as thyme, rosemary... can also be used).

Place the fish on top of the salt mixture and cover with the rest of the sea salt.

Tip: let the dorsal fin stick out of the mixture. By pulling it out you can test if the fish is properly cooked.

25 min. At 200 C

Meanwhile, peel the asparagus and cook the peelings in water with a pinch of salt. After 10 minutes remove the peelings and cook the asparagus in the same water for 10 minutes. After-wards the asparagus can be left to dry on a kitchen towel.

Let the broth boil down further, mix it (with a hand blender) with 100 grams of butter, add a pinch of green curry paste and your sauce is finished. When the fish is cooked, get it out of the oven, break the salt crust and remove it carefully. For the pres-entation, use a deep plate.

For the presentation put 4 or 5 asparagus per person in a deep plate, add the fish fillet top together with the shrimps, basil and the sauce.

The chef prefers to serve this dish as a starter without a side dish. As a main course pasta or boiled potatoes can be added.

ROYAL PALACEThe former Royal Palace has been razed and rebuilt at least half a dozen times over the past seven centuries. Today the Royal Palace contains two important museums as well as the National Szchenyi Library.

SZCHENYI CHAIN BRIDGEThis twin-towered span is the oldest and arguably the most beautiful bridge over the Danube. It is named in honour of its initiator, Istvn Szchenyi, but was built by a Scotsman named Adam Clark. When it opened in 1849, Szchenyi Chain Bridge was unique for two reasons: it was the first per-manent dry link between Buda and Pest, and the aristocracy, previously exempt from all taxation, had to pay the toll.

PARLIAMENTThe Eclectic-style Parliament, designed by Imre Steindl and completed in 1902, has 691 sumptuously decorated rooms. The building is a blend of architectural styles neo-Gothic, neo-Romanesque, neobaroque and in sum it works very well.

CATHEDRAL Budapests neoclassical cathedral was built over half a cen-tury and completed in 1905. Much of the interruption had to do with a fiasco in 1868 when the dome collapsed during a storm, and the structure had to be demolished and then rebuilt from the ground up.

This explains why alchemists in the 16 th and 17th centuries used in philtres and curative apotions. Maybe this helps to understand those foreign words, which indicate that this plant came from the New World: love apple in English, pomme damour in French.

This is exactly the reason why we chose the name Pomo Doro, which in this form means golden apple, however, written in one word its meaning changes to tomato.

Originality is a key factor and we put great emphasise on it, this is why our head chef, Rosario, prepares a lot of dishes from his own collection of recipes apart from the traditional Italian meals. The dishes prepared in the guest area are very infamous, not only because they amaze the guests by their spectacular sight, but once someone tastes them, they will surely remember their wonderful taste for a long time.
