RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Competitors must fill in one of the attached Entry Forms and send same together with Entrance Fees to the Hon. Secretary, Homecraft & Handicraft Section:

2. The tent will open for the reception of exhibits from 8.30am. All exhibits must be staged by 10.00am when judging will commence. COMPETITORS ARE PARTICULARLY REQUESTED NOT TO REMOVE THEIR EXHIBITS BEFORE 5.00pm (unless with the written consent of the Secretary). Tent to be cleared by 6.00pm after which time supervision by the Committee will cease. 3. Will competitors please note that payment for entrance to the show is due when they stage their entries in the morning. A stamp will be available for re-entry. 4. No exhibit will be accepted that has taken a prize AT ANY PREVIOUS SHOW, under the auspices of the Chepstow Agricultural Society. 5. No exhibitor will be allowed to alter his or her entry after the same has been handed to the Stewards. 6. The Judges shall be appointed by the Committee, and their decision is final. The Judges shall have the power to withhold prizes where they are not merited or there are insufficient entries. 7. For each exhibit, competitors are requested to bring with them a sealed PLAIN ENVELOPE containing his or her name and address, which is to be placed underneath the exhibit before judging takes place. Please state class number on envelope. Exhibits without such envelopes must be disqualified. 8. Prize money will not be paid before 3.00pm. Prize money not collected on Show Day by 6.00pm is returned to the show funds. 9. Every possible care will be taken of exhibits, but the committee will not be held responsible for loss or damage that may occur. 10. All entries must be the work of the exhibitor. 11. No half entry fees for members of the Society. 12. All matters not covered by these rules shall be decided by the Committee whose decision will be final. 13. Points for The Silver Challenge Cup, The Boughcliffe Cup, The Howick Cup, The Mary Vaughan-Hughes Cup, The Edith Clay Cup, The Silver Salver, The Kathleen Price Salver, The D.C. Keene Cup, The Barry Watkins Cup, Itton Shield, Shirenewton V.P.A. Salver, St. Deiniol Cup, Mrs K. Edwards Trophy, Ruth Sweeting Cup, Sugar Craft Trophy will be awarded as follows: 1st Prize : 4 points 2nd Prize : 2 points 3rd Prize : 1 point 14. The cups shall be held for one year, and shall be returned to the Secretary 14 days before the next show. 15. No Dogs (except guide dogs) allowed in the Homecraft Tent.

RECIPES FOR SECTION 1

DUNDEE CAKE 150g butter 150g Caster Sugar 3 Large Eggs 225g Plain Flour, sifted 1tsp Baking Powder 175g Currants 175g Sultanas 2tbsp Ground Almonds 50g Glace Cherries, rinsed, dried and cut into halves 50g Mixed Whole Candied Peel, finely chopped Grated Rinds of 1 Small Orange and 1 Small Lemon 50g Whole Blanched Almonds Method Preheat oven to 170c / gas mark 3. 18-20cm round tin, greased and lined with greaseproof paper. Cream butter and sugar together. Whisk eggs and beat into creamed butter and sugar mixture. Fold in the flour and baking powder. Next carefully fold in the currants, sultanas, cherries, mixed peel, ground almonds and orange and lemon rinds. Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin, smoothing it out evenly with the back of the spoon. Next arrange the whole almonds in circles on top of the mixture. Place the cake in the centre of the oven and bake for 2 - 2½ hours or until centre is firm and springy to the touch. Let it cool before taking it out of the tin. CRUNCHY TOP LEMON CAKE 100g Soft Margarine 175g Caster Sugar 175g Self Raising Flour 1 teaspoon Baking Powder 2 size 2 Eggs 4 tablespoons Milk Finely Grated Rind of 1 Lemon For A Crunchy Topping Juice of 1 Lemon 100g Granulated Sugar Method Preheat the oven to 180C 350F/Gas Mark 4. Lightly grease and base line a 7” deep round cake tin with grease-proof paper. Measure all the ingredients for the cake into a large bowl and beat well for about 2 minutes until smooth and well blended. Turn the mixture into the tin and level the surface. Bake in the pre-heated oven for about 35-40 minutes or until the cake has shrunk slightly from the sides of the tin and springs back when lightly pressed with a finger. Make the crunchy topping. Measure the lemon juice and sugar into a bowl and stir until blended. When the cake comes out of the oven, spread the lemon paste over the top whilst the cake is still hot. Leave in the tin until cold, then turn out and remove paper. SOFT GINGERBREAD 100g Butter 100g Golden Syrup 125g Dark Treacle 100g Granulated Sugar 275g Plain Flour ½ tsp Salt 1 level tsp Bicarbonate of Soda 2 tsps. Ground Ginger 1tsp Cinnamon 1 beaten Egg 225ml Sour Milk Method Grease a 23cm/9 inch square tin with greased, greaseproof paper. Melt butter, syrup, treacle and sugar gently in a pan. Allow to cool. Sieve together flour, salt, ginger, cinnamon and bicarbonate of soda. Pour contents of pan into the flour and beat in egg and milk. Pour into prepared tin. Bake in a moderate over, Gas 3, 325F, 160C for about 1 hour. Turn out of tin onto wire rack to cool. BARA BRITH (Makes 1 x 2lb loaf) 170g Currants 170g Sultanas 225g Light Muscovado (or Demerara Sugar) 275ml Strong Hot Tea 1 Beaten Egg 275g Self Raising Flour Method Put fruit and sugar into a bowl and pour over hot tea. Leave overnight. Heat oven to 150C/Gas Mark 2. Grease and line 2lb loaf tin. Stir flour and egg into fruit and egg into fruit mixture and mix thoroughly. Put into prepared tin. Bake 1½-1¾ hours until well risen and firm to the touch. A fine skewer should come out clean. Leave in tin for 10 minutes then turn out.

A fantasy landscape-style exhibit in a shallow waterproof container (may be hand-made or recycled) filled with damp sand (horticultural variety) using any kind of plant materials (fresh, cut, dried, manipulated) plus ’natural’ accessories eg stones, gravels etc but plant material must predominate. *Alternative mechanics eg pin holders, orchid tubes etc may be concealed in the design, but no floral foam. HAVE A GO AT THE SHOW - In Aid of Ty Hafan, National Children’s Hopsice for Wales ‘KALEIDOSCOPE’ An exhibit, in any style, space allowed 12” x 12” (30cm x 30cm), height optional. No need for entry forms, just bring along your creation, with your name only in a small envelope, and the stewards will help you stage it (between 8-10am please). No prizes, the public will vote for their favourite(s) with all money for Ty Hafan. Rosettes will be awarded to top three by popularity. Over the previous three shows this class has raised more than £1,200 for charities working locally, let us see what we can do this year!
