KIDS CLUB 29/07/16 BIG, BIG ARRIVAL
We had a good crowd of kids turn up for more fun and games this week. Thanks to Mrs
Deluis for the delicious chocolate cake and yummy crackers which were quickly consumed.
We started the afternoon with a game of Captain on deck.
We sang some Christmas songs from Col Buchanan’s Christmas CD which was really great.
As you may have guessed by now we are learning about the Big, Big arrival of Jesus. Thus the Christmas story has been read. This week we heard the story of the Wise Men who came from the East and followed a bright star to find the Messiah. They came bearing gifts. Isaiah foretold the Messiah’s birth many years in advance.
For craft we made one of the three wise men out of a Styrofoam cup. So make sure you put them away in a safe place ready for Christmas.
Best Boy & Girl: Aden Cole and Makayla Cole.

Young women, have your voice heard & score a Power Trip!
Young women across rural and remote Western Australia have the opportunity to meet with Australia’s top politicians, CEOs and Defence leaders through an initiative launched today.
Country to Canberra is unveiling its 2016 Leadership Competition, which awards winners with an all-expenses paid ‘Power Trip’ to Canberra.
CEO Hannah Wandel says it’s a once-in-a lifetime leadership opportunity that will help empower the next generation of rural female leaders.
“Winners will tour parliament, meet inspiring leaders, receive public speaking training from organisations like TEDx, receive a long-term mentor and get their work published nationally!
“In past years, young women have met with Julie Bishop, Tanya Plibersek, Fiona Nash, Jacqui Lambie, Barnaby Joyce and more.”
Ms Wandel says to enter, students just need to submit a 2-minute video, podcast or 400 words answering the 2016 question: Why is gender equality important to you and your community?
“It’s specifically aimed at Year 10-12 girls, and excitingly, at least 10 students from rural or remote schools are guaranteed to win. We’re helping young women in these communities, as we know distance, telecommunications and funding barriers can make life tough for country students.
“Pairing these issues with gender discrimination, Australia’s pay gap, and the underrepresentation of women in politics and business leadership, we want to combat inequality and ensure young rural women are empowered. We encourage parents and schools to pass the competition on to any girl who could benefit!” Ms Wandel said.
To celebrate the launch, Country to Canberra is hosting a panel event in Canberra tonight, featuring the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Leo Davies, 2016 ACT Woman of the Year Amanda Whitley and more.
The competition closes on 9 September 2016. For more information, visit the Country to Canberra website: http://countrytocanberra.com.au/enter-the-competition/
-STATEMENT ENDS-
***
Country to Canberra is a nationwide not-for-profit that is empowering young rural women to reach their leadership potential. The
award-winning organisation builds leadership skills, encourages ambition, and connects young rural women with role models
and high-profile leaders to help them overcome gender and geographical barriers to success.

NAREMBEEN GOLF
Goodness me. I don’t know where to start.
Is it the Rio Olympics, where our esteemed S Padfield tried out for the diving competition, with a forward summersault, flailing arms and face plant entry earning him an impressive 2.5 by his judges? Apparently his mates (?) took a few holes to recover, though there was concern by one of them that he could be having a heart attack and contemplated running to the club house to get the defibrillator. No one was going to offer CPR, apparently.
Or is it the saga of our G Vaughan (again) regards his farm ute? A week ago a flat battery and sick alternator meant an unsuccessful recovery despite Greg gently nudging it with a mate’s ute. So there it stayed, on the golf club track for the week, as parking fees mounted and Cusacks had to negotiate around it. “All sorted” announced Greg this Sunday – “ it will be gone on Monday morning,” and so it was but now collecting more parking fees at Woodfields’ gate.
Apart from all that, some good golf was played. The bus load of men went to BK on Sat and cleaned up with J & M Currie winning the gross with 30pts and S Stirrat and N Rogerson won the nett with 50. R/up were Brendon Parsons and J Deluis with 49.
On Sunday the men played their last qualifying round and S Welsh had a good one with 67nett, r/up on c/b was D Hayter 69 from B Cusack. Brian 80 also won the gross. Good scores were Brendon Parsons, G Vaughan 71 and J Currie 72. As a result the final qualifying positions are as follows-
B Cusack, G Vaughan, M Currie, R Miolini, J Currie, S Biddulph, M Hall, D Hayter, S Padfield, R Hayter, M Toovey, T Cusack, B Parsons, S Welsh, J Deluis, G Sands, H Cowan, A Miolini, M Miolini, J Irving, A Lyon, K Della Vedova, T Lumsden, C Ogilvie, Bruce Parsons, S Stirrat and N Rogerson.
Anyone not available for the elimination rounds please let Mike know ASAP.
The men are going to Kondinin on Sat.
The ladies also played a stroke on Wed and some great scores also ensured. J Cusack won with a 67 and proved that though buying a new putter the old one is better. M Miolini was unlucky to be r/up with a 68 but she had the best gross with 84. Good golf Maxine. C Currie had a 73 nett. It was great to have J Starcevich back and she won best 2nd on 8 with J Hayter winning Peel NP no 17. Harmony was ensured when Carol did the arvo tea and party pies were again on the menu. All was well with world.
We would like to thank our very generous sponsors

Bruce Rock 17-12 114

Tonight those of us here at Hawks HQ have decided
not to report on the results from Saturday, other
than to congratulate the Bruce Rock Footy Club on
their wins and also congratulate Gary Buller on his
milestone of 400 games for the footy club. Results
have become increasingly irrelevant for the Hawks
as the search continues to find the real men that the
club needs. Saturday displayed many examples of
these kinds of men but two deserve special mention
and more will come in the coming weeks.
Liam Hickey is Irish and it shows. He speaks English
in a manner no one understands, he has absolutely
no sense of self preservation and he is an absolutely
ripping bloke. He has worked his butt off all year to
learn this crazy game and done a magnificent job in
doing so. When Ben Gill broke a nail and missed five
weeks it was the Irishman that stepped up. On
Saturday he once again ran himself into the ground
for his team and showed his development by getting
some key possessions around the ground.
Adam Miolini is everything the Hawks want and
need. He is a no frills footballer who commits
himself to everything he does. The improvement he
has shown this season has been highly impressive.
He has found himself contesting with often bigger
and quicker opponents and the more the season has
gone on the better he has got. His disposal is
becoming more assured and those big beautiful
hands are starting to make light of his nickname of
Butters, although that one may have stuck.
On Saturday both these men, and many others, did
all they could for their footy club. Footy isn't the
most important thing in the world, far from it, but it
is the most beautiful sport for it shows men for
what they are and Hickey and Miolini. A have
proven to be men of the highest order. Men that
sacrifice themselves, men that think of others, men
that are Hawks.
HAWKS SAY THANKS....The Hawks thank the
following players for playing both Ressies and
League in the last two weeks; Clint Butler, Leigh
Butler, Jake Newman, Steve Sherwood, Danny Gray
and Baden Kennedy.
JAKOBSEN TAKES SHOT.....
Controversy threatened the
Narembeen Hawks last night as
outspoken international recruit
Alexander Jakobsen made a claim
that rocked many at the club. For a
long time Jesper Dall has been the
best international recruit the
Hawks have had. Dall has been a
crowd and club favourite, Jakobsen
now believes that he has that title.
'Jesper is a really nice bloke but he
has had his time, I think it's fair to
say I have superseded him as a
bloke and a footballer'. Dall was
unavailable to comment.
