Section 6 – 2 Slope – Intercept Form
Objectives:To write equations in slope-intercept form
To graph linear equations
Linear Equation:
An equation whose graph is a line.
Examples: y = 2x + 5 f(x) =
y-intercept:the y-coordinate of the point where the line crosses the y-axis.
Slope-Intercept Form of a Linear Equation:
y = mx + bSlope-Intercept has TWO important parts:
SLOPE:
Y-INTERCEPT:y = 2x + 5
Example 1 Identifying Slope & y-intercept
Identify the slope and y-intercept of each equation.
A) y = 3x – 5
B) y = -2x + 1
C)
D) y =
Example 2 Writing an EquationWrite an equation of the line with the given slope and y-intercept.
A) Slope = , y-intercept = 6
B) Slope = -3, y-intercept = 4
C) Slope = y-intercept =
When you know the y-intercept and slope of a line, you can write an equation of the line!
