UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

WE THINK ABOUT YOU ALWAYS,

WE TALK ABOUT YOU STILL,

YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN FORGOTTEN

AND YOU NEVER WILL.

WE HOLD YOU CLOSE WITHIN OUR HEARTS

AND THERE YOU WILL REMAIN,

TO WALK AND GUIDE US THROUGH OUR LIVES,

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN.

YOUR THREE ROSES

O’CHUN, CHANCE, & CHACE

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul.

He leads me in paths of righteousness

for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies;

you anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD AMEN.

Obituary

Reverend James Kernell Tucker began his journey of life on October 17, 1946, in

Cope, South Carolina. He was the first of three children born to James and Vernell

Simpson Tucker. Reverend Tucker was a man who electrified and shook up the world,

when he departed his earthly life on Sunday, August 23, 2020, at his home, on the

famously street known as Pennsylvania Avenue. Truly cut from a different cloth, he

transitioned to his heavenly home peacefully, as he was surrounded by his loved ones.

Reverend Tucker, a native of Cope, South Carolina, was a man who lived by the phrase,

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” While still in high school, he was also a

school bus driver at G. W. Carver High School, from which he graduated in 1966. He

drove school buses until he was drafted into the United States Army. A Vietnam

Veteran, he received many accolades to include the National Defense Service Medal,

Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Rifle, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service

Stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device. All received and

accounted for, where he served with distinction until his honorable discharge (1966-68).

Upon his returning home, he continued to serve our country by joining the United States

Army Reserves. His faithful service to our country is a true testimony of the honest and

faithful man of God.

Reverend Tucker attended Palmer College, Columbia Bible College, and the University

of South Carolina. He graduated from Columbia Junior College and Morris College with

an Associate degree in Business Management and Traffic Management. He treasured the

B. A. degree the most, (Born Again Christian).

Reverend Tucker was licensed to preach the Gospel by Antioch Baptist Church,

Columbia, South Carolina. He was ordained by the Upper Division of the Wateree

Association. He was a member of the National Board of Addiction examiners and

received his certification in Domestic Violence Counselor Endorsement. He was a

certified Pastoral Addiction Counselor.

He dominated the pulpit or the podium while being a faithful pastor of Union Chapel

Baptist Church, Jamison, South Carolina, for twenty-five (25) years until he retired on

October 20, 2019. He was Moderator of Progressive Union in Calhoun County and

President Emeritus of the Citywide Brotherhood Union, in Columbia, South Carolina, a

Vietnam Veteran and a 32 Degree Mason. He was a Letter Carrier, Postal Supervisor,

and Station Manager for the U. S. Postal Service, until he retired after serving thirty-six

(36) years of service.

His love story began the moment he met the love of his life, the former Gussie Nell

Salley, from Orangeburg, SC, in 1970, who preceded him in death on July 17, 2020.

United together in Holy Matrimony, they would have been married for 50 years today,

August 29, 2020. These two love birds discovered quickly of their birthdays being on

the same date, just 3 years apart, most would be envious of a match made in heaven.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, James and Vernell Simpson Tucker; his

loving wife; his in-laws, James and Marie Aiken Salley; and a son, Jermaine Lamont

Tucker.

Reverend James Kernell Tucker leaves to cherish his many joyful memories: his loving

and devoted children, Kesha Tucker (Trini) Harp, of Atlanta, GA and Terrance Tucker,

of Augusta, GA; three grandchildren, O’Chun Harris, Chace and Chance Morris, all of

the home; three sisters, Verneather (Isaiah) Sistrunk, of Cope, SC, Sandra (David) Odom, of Bamberg, SC, and Sandra Colter, of Orangeburg, SC; three sisters-in-law, Dr.
