FORMAL EDUCATION AND VTCHope for girls and women in Tanzania has managed to send girls to continue with secondaryeducation, primary education, hotel management and hospitality, vocational training, readingand writing. The following are the categories of children:

TAILOR TRAININGA total of 34 girls received tailoring and entrepreneurship skills at the Safe Houses. In thetailoring Class the following were taught:

● How to make different types of shirts i.e. with buttons and with zips.● How to make different types of dresses.● How to design the same cloth to look more beautiful.● How to sew trousers for men and for women theory.● How sew trousers for men and for women, practical.● How to sew the skirt of peseli (sketi ya peseli ) and practical.● How to take the measurement of a skirt of peseli.

READING AND COUNTING CLASSHope Mugumu and Butiama safe House have managed to continue to conduct the Reading andCounting Class to help girls whom are unable to attend school classes for a formal education.Total of 15 girls joined this class.

FORMAL EDUCATION

Total of 32 girls continue with primary school education.

VILLAGE ISSUESThe seasonal cutting ended, no any new information about cutting. There is an increase of Earlychild marriage cases reported.

LEGAL ISSUES2 rape cases continue in Butiama while 2 Cases inSerengeti, 2 new FGM cases opened at court in theseasonal cutting of 2020/2021. 2 rape casesreached an end with the perpetrator prisoned for30 years each. The cutter had 5 years added foranother case this month (May 2021) ,she wasfacing 3 cases, 2 finished, 1 case remained open.

COUNSELING TO SAFE HOUSE GIRLS

Girls at Safe House were counselled weekly, this was done in two ways; individual counsellingand group counselling. We try as much as possible to keep the girls close in all ways so that theycan enjoy staying at Safe House. We listen to the challenges they face and try to look forpossible solutions.

A total of 4 counselling sessions were conducted in Butiama Safe house and 45 girls receivedgroup counselling, 8 girls received individual counselling.

In Serengeti a total of 4 counselling sessions were conducted and a total of 45 received groupcounselling and 15 individual counselling.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

1. Protection and Support Services through Hope Safe HousesFood and basic needs were provided to girls staying in the Safe Houses and health check-upswere conducted on girls who arrived in both safe houses, these were conducted in collaborationwith the Police Gender Desk and social welfare. Health services were provided to all childrenwhom were found with health problems and were taken to the hospital where they weretreated. Medication was provided to sick girls.

2. Programme Management and ReconciliationHope for Girls and Women in Tanzania in collaboration with, Social welfare officer and the PoliceGender desk conducted reconciliation between girls and their parents and succeeded toreconcile 2 girls.

3. Farmers Training with Plant Village — Nuru, MEDA, and IITAHope for Girls and Women in Tanzania in collaboration with Plant village -Nuru from Kenyaconducted farmers training on how to use agro technology to gain knowledge on good farmingpractice and conservation and reduction of GBV and reporting GBV cases.Through this program we managed to reach 40 villagers; 22 women and 18 men from Matareward in Serengeti and Kukirango ward in Butiama. A total of 40 smartphones were provided tofarmers.

Follow ups were conducted to all farmers and havemanaged to formulate farmer’s groups, where a totalof 3:1 MEDA and IITA trained farmers from Matarevillage on agro technology to reduce the GBV cases atcommunity, increase knowledge on how to use theapplication of plant nuru to get a supplier of goodseed of Cassava around the district.

4. Income GenerationFacilitating 50 girls and 50 women onincome generating skills trainings, examplesof projects that can be selected include:tailoring, agriculture, soap and batikmaking, food processing, cookery, hotelmanagement, and driving. 7 women groupsfacilitated on income generating skillstrainings, where selected examples ofprojects such as batik making andagricultural in Serengeti.

5. Seed CapitalProviding Seed Capital to 20 economic groups of 5 persons each. 7 groups facilitated withcapital to establish their selected projects.

6. Mid-term EvaluationMid – term Evaluation process started the evaluation is taking place in Butiama.

7. Community SensitizationCommunity awareness through events and school programmes conducted at 8 wards and

schools. The formulation of children committees/ baraza at ward level, where representatives

came from sub-villages and streets. A total of 8 children baraza formed and trained on children

rights, FGM and other forms of violence.

8. Research and Data Collection – Nottingham University1. Hope for Girls and Women in Tanzania managed

● To encourage the Digital Champions to keep giving information using WhatsApp and

ODK to help women and girls in their community.

● Installing and updating an app on their phone – we managed to update WhatsApp and

Maps.me for 20 girls out of 43.

● Providing Bundles for Digital champions. During the Follow-up we managed to provide

bundles for 35 women out of 43.

2. Receiving 5 GBV CASES from the Digital Champions from 1st May up to 30th May 2021.

● We managed to get 5 Cases from the Digital Champions through phone calls and

connected the cases directly to the Social welfare and Police Gender Desk. Three cases

are now rectified by the Police Gender Desk, Mugumu and 2 are reported and police

working on it as table shows.

SUPPORT, AID, AND LEARNING

We received various visitors from Musoma Africa Inland Church who visited to provideencouragement to the girls. Four people, including 2 girls from Hope, madam Tatu and Kasunga,attended Drone training in Tanga on how to make one and their usage.

Hope for Girls and Women in Tanzania attended training on Capacity building in protecting andsupport women and girls against FGM, child marriage and other forms of GBV in Moshi, whichRhobi also attended. The training was organised by NAFGEM and UNFPA.
