October 6, 2013 Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost

A little faith goes a long way is our Lord’s point in the gospel. A mustard seed’s-worth has miraculous potential. The patience, tenacity, and endurance required for the life of faith are the blessings received in water and the word (holy baptism), bread and wine (Holy Communion), the word read and proclaimed in this assembly. Anticipate them. Receive them with thanksgiving.

HOPE’S HIDDEN TREASURE AUCTION - Everyone has something to offer – something at which they are talented or that they can share. We want to identify the “hidden treasures” of Hope Lutheran and auction them off at our first-ever time and talent auction on Consecration Sunday 2013! So think about what you can offer – be creative! Don’t forget to save the date – October 20, 2013. Consecration Sunday will be celebrated at both worship services with the lunch and auction after the 10:30am service. A sign-up sheet is posted by our treasure chest in the narthex! Proceeds from the auction will benefit the ministries of Hope Lutheran Church. GRACEDALE TALENT NIGHT – All are invited to participate in our talent night at Gracedale TOMORROW, Monday October 7th. MEMORIAL GARDEN – On Sunday, October 27th at 9:30am we will dedicate the Memorial Garden to the Glory of God. Folks can gather at the Memorial Garden for this brief service. (In case of inclement weather we will do the dedication under the picnic pavilion). Additionally, the Memorial Garden Committee will host a fellowship hour between worship services so members can share in the joy of this addition to our ministry. Please mark your calendar and join us for the dedication and coffee hour! PRAYERS FOR THE WEEK The Congregational Council is encouraging all our members to grow in their spirituality through a regular Prayer Life. One way of doing this is by lifting up in prayer one family from our church each day of the year. This week’s families are: 10/06/13 Nancy Miller and family 10/07/13 Shannon, Anthony, Avery Kacsur and family 10/08/13 Richard Hulsizer and family 10/09/13 Dale Newhart and family 10/10/13 Leah Warnke and family 10/11/13 Eleanor Meckes and family 10/12/13 Mark, Anna Solt and family ALLENTOWN RESCUE MISSION – a group from Hope Church will be helping serve the annual dinner for the Allentown Rescue Mission on Saturday, October 12th at Asbury Methodist Church in Allentown. We will leave the church parking lot at 3:00pm. For more information, please call Marge Zimmermann at 610-760-1602. FAMILY FAITH CHALLENGE – The theme of the family faith challenges for October 2013 is the Ten Commandments. We challenge you to think about your relationship with others. How do these commandments help

us? October 6-12: Read the Fifth Commandment and the explanation

in Luther’s Small Catechism. Look for articles in the newspaper about

people hurting one another. Pray for their safety. Think of ways you

can help people who are hurting and need your care. Contribute to a

food bank or food pantry, donate clothes, and/or create a “clean”

bucket for Church World Service or Lutheran World Relief.

WALNUTPORT CANAL FESTIVAL - A group from Hope Church will be making funnel cakes again this year at the Walnutport Canal Festival on Sunday, October 20th. Come out and enjoy a delicious funnel cake or some deep fried Oreo cookies. Also, enjoy the beautiful fall festival. Proceeds benefit Hope Church.
