The tenth annual Christmas baskets for Hope “Shut Ins” were delivered by
Pastor Wagner and some by Hope’s Men’s Quartet members. A big thank
you goes out to Hope’s exceptionally talented Quartet, composed of Steve
Knese, Ed Iliff, Rich Sartori and Pastor Wagner. It is always such a blessing to
see the happy faces, hear their stories and words of appreciation! This year’s
baskets, special prayers, and well wishes were delivered to: Sue Amelung,
Grant Glatt, Bud Gmachl (passed 12/29/19), Cindi Hawkins, Carl Johnson,
Gary and Joan Kujath, Kevin Lewis, Kathleen Listenberger, Pat Mach, Joy
Mathis, Vi Miller, Josh Nelson, Betty Sanders, Melvin Seeman Sr., and Bev
Williams. We would like to thank Jackie Fonod, Gloria High, Carole Myers,
and Donna Schilling who helped put the baskets together. As usual, the
homemade cookies and candy were amazing favorites this year. A special
thank you to the many families that made the delicious treats, this made the
baskets an even more caring congregation effort! We are so blessed here at
Hope to have so many thoughtful members. All the monies for the other
basket contents were made possible by a generous Thrivent Grant. Our
Hope members who are not able to be with us at Church at Christmas and
all year are even more thankful for your generosity. This remembrance
helps brighten their celebration of Our Savior Jesus Christ’s birth. Hoping
you had a blessed Christmas and will have a wonderful 2020 New Year!!
As we all remember God is the Giver of the very best gift.

Please take some time to review the Bible readings below,
they will be the subject of next week’s sermon.
January 19, 2020 Isaiah 49:1–7 1 Corinthians 1:1–9 John 1:29–42a “The Lord, the Redeemer of Israel,” calls forth “his Holy One” (Is. 49:7), Jesus, the Christ, “from the womb” of His mother (Is. 49:1). The incarnate Son of God is revealed as the Savior, not only for Israel but also “as a light for the nations,” whose salvation reaches “to the end of the earth” (Is. 49:6). John came “baptizing with water” (John 1:31) to reveal Jesus as “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29), and who glorifies His God and Father by His atoning sacrifice upon the cross. When Jesus was baptized in the waters of the Jordan, the Holy Spirit descended “from heaven like a dove” and “remained on him” (John 1:32). By our Baptism, we are anointed by the same Spirit, adopted by God the Father, and “called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 1:9). Therefore, we “are not lacking in any gift,” but we can trust Him who promises to sustain us to the end, “guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 1:7–8).

Life Thought in the Church Year
“[A] bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench” (Isaiah 42:3a). He who went into the water with sinners (Matthew 3:6,
13) doesn’t let human impairments impede His redeeming. A body broken by deformity He will not discard in abortion, and a person incapacitated by disease He will not abandon in physician-assisted
suicide.
To the Glory of God and in loving Memory of
Bud Gmachl a gift has been given by
Jim & Carole Myers.
Box Top Collection-Help support our local Lutheran school and the children of Hope who attend there! Our Savior Lutheran School of Fenton collects these box tops as one way to raise money. Simply clip the box tops and place them in the box on the ledge of the mailroom (please make sure the box tops are not expired). Any questions? See Julie Wagner or Melanie Friel

Support our 2019 LHF Sunday School Mission Project
Over the past 7 years, Hope's Sunday school mission projects
have put 2,500 Bible story books in the hands of people around the
world in their native language! What a blessing you all have been!
Please consider continuing to support Lutheran Heritage
Foundation this year as we send children's Bible Story books to
Spanish-speaking countries. For every $5, one book can be
translated & given to a child who may be hearing about Christ for the
very first time. Place your offering in an envelope marked- Sunday
School Mission Project- and put it in the offering plate or Julie
Wagner's mailbox. Thank you for your support in spreading the
Gospel of Jesus Christ!
