Welcome to worship on this Palm Sunday! On this day Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The crowds greeted Jesus by waving palm branches.

Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross and today we begin that journey with him.

Leader: We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen

Prelude The Holy City arr. Don Wyrtzen and Paul Mickelson

Proclamation of PraiseLeader: Behold our king comes; humble, yet mighty; exalted of God.All: Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.Leader: Christ our King comes to us. The Lord of our salvation is with us.All: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!

Last night I lay a-sleepingThere came a dream so fair,

I stood in old JerusalemBeside the temple there.

I heard the children singing,And ever as they sang

Methought the voice of angelsFrom heaven in answer rang,Methought the voice of angelsFrom heaven in answer rang.

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!Lift up your gates and sing,

Hosanna in the highest!Hosanna to your King!

And then methought my dream was changed,

The streets no longer rang.Hushed were the glad Hosannas

The little children sang. The sun grew dark with mystery,

The morn was cold and chill,As the shadow of a cross arose

Upon a lonely hill,As the shadow of a cross arose

Upon a lonely hill.

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!Hark! How the angels sing,

Hosanna in the highest!Hosanna to your King!

And once again the scene was changed,

New earth there seemed to be.

I saw the Holy CityBeside the tideless sea.

The light of God was on its streets,The gates were open wide,

And all who would might enter,And no one was denied.

No need of moon or stars by night,Or sun to shine by day;

It was the new JerusalemThat would not pass away,It was the new Jerusalem

That would not pass away.

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!Sing for the night is o’er!Hosanna in the highest!Hosanna forevermore!

lesson Zechariah 9:9-10 Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. He will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall command peace to the nations; his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

antHem Ride On, King Jesus arr. Moses Hogan St. Andrew’s Choir

aPostles’ creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, wascrucified, died, andwasburied. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Holy GosPel Mark 11:1-10All: Glory to you, O Lord. When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden; untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here immediately.’” They went away and found a colt tied near a door, outside in the street. As they were untying it, some of the bystanders said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” They told them what Jesus had said; and they allowed them to take it. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it; and he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields. Then those who went ahead and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”All: Praise to you, O Christ.

Discipleship 101CALLED TO

FOLLOW JESUS4-Week Class With Pastor Mike Carlson Mondays, April 9, 16, 23, 30; 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary

Discipleship is the response to Jesus’ call to follow him. Followers of Christ Jesus have an integrated faith that is lived out at home, church, work, and in the world. Followers are equipped for life through the essential components of our baptismal vows: worship, scripture, fellowship, and prayer. The ultimate purpose of discipleship is to build God’s kingdom on earth so that the whole world will know the healing power of Christ’s love. In regard to our mission statement, discipleship is to “Live in Christ” and to “Live in Christ” is discipleship.

It is our hope to have everyone at St. Andrew’s participate in Discipleship 101. Come and grow in your faith and your life with Lead Pastor Mike Carlson!
