SPOTLIGHT ON ACTION‣ In Wyandotte County, Kansas, the Mayor is working with others in the community to

improve residents’ health by expanding access to healthier foods; passing a Complete Streets policy to make the community more walk-able and bicycle friendly; providing health education in neighborhoods; and increasing education support for low-income children.

‣ After seeing its low ranking, leaders in Genesee County, Michigan, implemented a plan that fosters workplace wellness. Commit to Fit!, a campaign to increase physical activity uses a focused social marketing strategy and a new web-based interactive tool to engage local residents in “fun, simple ways to practice healthy behaviors.” Over 50 employers are participating.

‣ In Davidson County, Tennessee, the Mayor is highlighting health as a an overarching priority vital to the success of the city. Working with other, leadership in Nashville are focusing on improving opportunities for healthy eating and physical activity, improving Nashville’s schools, ensuring public safety, and economic development
