It can be fun learning to play the guitar using a self-teach program from a book or through a website on the internet. However, unless you are self-disciplined, have an excellent
ear for music and are very determined, the chances are you will fall by the wayside. You need a private guitar
lessons tutor to bring that extra enthusiasm and encouragement to the learning experience for best results.
You are unlikely to have a problem finding any type of private music tuition. They are often advertised in your local papers, or in public offices on notice boards and of
course in the yellow pages phone book. Alternatively, you can run a search for music tutors on the internet, and you
will get a list of providers for private voice lessons and private piano lessons along with many more.
It is not unusual for music teachers to want to assess a potential student\'s skills. So you may be asked to
demonstrate your skills and then have a one to one discussion with the teacher. You can use that opportunity
to find out everything you need to know about the teacher, their skills and their teaching methods. The
information you get can help you decide if this is the right teacher for you.
Even if you have no musical experience, you need to ask for information. Knowing how long the tutor has been
teaching and their background can indicate their level of experience. The more experience they have the more
confident you can be in their teaching skills. It may also help you to make up your mind if you know about their
methods.
Your audition or interview may not take place in the building that will be used for your classes. Ask about class venues, where they are and do they have proper facilities
for toilets and refreshments. Access to facilities is very important if you have to journey any distance to venues.
Disabled access may also be an issue if you or anyone who provides you with transport needs it.
Check that the timetable slots that are available fit in with your commitments. Find out about the rules on booking lessons so you know how far ahead you need to plan. If
you have to book say perhaps six sessions at a time, when do you pay for them and how much it costs. Also ask what
happens if you have a lesson booked, and it has to be canceled and whether you still have to pay.
Professional tutors who provide private guitar lessons, should provide you with a written copy of the terms and
conditions. It would not be unusual if you are asked to sign a contract for services. However, you should always take
care to read the information carefully before signing.
