Journey to Excellence . . .Established by The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in 1962 and located on eleven tree-lined acres in the Memorial area of Houston, our school is a diverse community of learners. We serve students in kindergarten through grade eight in our Lower School and Middle School, as well as infants to preschoolers in our Child Enrichment Center and Early Childhood Program. All students are encouraged to reach their full potential in a challenging and nurturing environment.

The mission of Holy Spirit Episcopal School is to provide an exemplary education for infants through grade eight that develops the whole child while achieving academic excellence in a dynamic Christian-based environment.

AcademicsHoly Spirit Episcopal School students benefit from a true high school preparatory environment with a low student-to-teacher ratio that promotes active student engagement and differentiated instruction. We are accredited by the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools, which supports high academic standards, clearly defined goals, and ongoing authentic evaluations.

At Holy Spirit, we emphasize continuous professional development for our faculty in order to remain current with research-based best practices. Our teachers are certified in Gifted and Talented education and trained in the Social Emotional Learning approach.

“Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.” —Martin Luther King, Jr.

Beginning the JourneyFrom our youngest through our graduates, Holy Spirit Episcopal School creates inviting, developmentally appropriate, multi-sensory learning environments. We get to know each child and how he or she learns. We intentionally plan, nurture, encourage, and celebrate curiosity.

AthleticsThe Saints participate in many sports: soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, and tennis. On and off the fields, team members develop both mind and body, learning the value and rewards of hard work, dedication, self-discipline, leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanlike conduct. Participation in sports at Holy Spirit launches the majority of our students into high school athletics.

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” —Michael Jordan

“Every child is an artist. The challenge is to remain an artist after you grow up.” —Pablo Picasso

Fine ArtsOur students receive an enriched fine arts education, including visual and performing arts. Theory, art history, art appreciation, and the application of various media are major components of the visual program. An active piano lab, exposure to digital composition, and a variety of instruments enhance the students’ creativity in the performing arts. Highlights of the year are our always-popular plays and musical performances.

Costa Rica Cultural Exchange Since 1994, Holy Spirit has enjoyed a sister-school relationship with St. Michael School in San Jose, Costa Rica. Our middle school students have the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica and to host a Costa Rican exchange student here in Houston. The exchange helps develop a global perspective and understanding of another culture and fosters an opportunity to further enhance their Spanish-language skills.

“Living in different cultures helped me work out who I was going to be, separate from where I came from.”

—Jacinda Barrett
