Hunger Games Chpts 1-3Summary

• Katniss wakes up at home. Meet the family!– Sleep in same room: Mom, Prim, Buttercup

• She lives in District 12, primarily mining (used to be Appalachia.

• Gale and the Woods – hunts & gathers– They sell their goods in the Hob and to the mayor

• The Reaping System is explained• Prim’s name is called in the Reaping• Katniss takes her place (volunteer tribute). Peeta called. • Katniss relives her starvation years & Peeta’s rescue • 1 hr to say goodbye to her family, then on the train

• Reaping – • Cut or gather (a crop or harvest)- large numbers

of men were employed to reap the harvest• Harvest the crop from (a piece of land)• Receive (a reward or benefit) as a consequence

of one's own or other people's actions- the company is poised to reap the benefits of this investment

• Find a song that illustrates relationships: love, family, gender roles, romance, sex, etc.

• Lyrics need to be read (or sung) to the class• Fully analyzed for meaning. – symbols – Metaphors – Relevance of this piece in human relationships.
