Hybrid Natural Gas Vehicle
Carleton University’s newest MAE capstone project with the aim to
further the development of natural gas in the transportation industry.
The HNGV project is led by a diverse team of lead engineers with
multi-disciplinary backgrounds and driven by 21 students from
multiple engineering departments at Carleton University.
1
Dynamometer Team
• Develop a testing bench for
engine performance
• Purpose to optimize engine
performance
2
Car Transformation Team
• Safely convert a pre-existing
vehicle to operate on
compressed natural gas
3
Home Refueling Team
• Researching innovative solutions to
personalize the process of refueling
• Design an economically feasible natural
gas compressor for home use
4
Hybrid Technologies Team
• Integration of alternative energy
sources to work alongside the
CNG engine
• Primary focus includes
integrating an electric motor
5
Eco-Shell Team
• Develop a vehicle to race in the Shell
Eco-Marathon competition
• Challenging students around the world
to build, design and drive the most
energy-efficient car
6
Autonomous Navigation Team
• Integration of an Autonomous
Navigation System (ANS)
• With the use of cameras, sonars and
sensors. ANS converts manned car into
self-driving vehicle
