After the outbreak of the Civil War in Spain, thousands of children, children of the Republicans, were sent to Russia with the intention of saving them from the calamities of the fight and the fury of the enemy side. Beatriz (Esther Regina, ‘The consul of Sodom’) is a young woman belonging to a well-off Francoist family whose father and brother are active members of La Falange.

Desolation comes to her life when she becomes pregnant with her boyfriend and he refuses to marry her. How could a family like yours, so religious and conservative, assume that? Desperate, she sees no other option than to take him to an orphanage, but when she learns that they are taking him to Russia, she realizes what she really wants for her little boy and does not hesitate to steal the identity of a dead republican, Paula, for volunteer to take care of the children.

The arrival of Hitler in the Soviet Union generates a lot of ups and downs in the journey and the arrival to a safe place becomes more and more difficult.
