LEINSTER ORIENTEERING CLUBS I5

The third meeting of the Leinster Regional Council w8S held in the Currogh Camp

on Thursday, 15th November 1979.

The motion was passed that all results should be included in the lOC NcwG-

letter and a recommendation is made to event organisers to provide tl'c f~ 'ility

of an envelope results system and to display the results list at the next event.

The catchment areas will remain as they are and club secretaries will use their

discretion in direc~ing prospective members to the appropriate club and also

inform them of other clubs in the region. All clubs are to be provided with a

map showing the catchment areaS.

Clubs should assist Juniors and Schools with training, introductory courses,

and events, by providing maps and controls where possible.

Clubs should subscribe a maximum of £10 to the Treasury - some of which would

go towards the financing of ~unior administration.

All money in connection with the L.R.C. or junior Sub-committee should be sent

to the Treasurer: Ronan Cleary

16 ~odder Park Road.

Dublin 14.

The post of Secretary is to be made permanent. Clubs are to submit nominations

for Secretary before the next meeting.

A Map Clinic has been held at sever31 events and is proving quite successful.

All help is welcomed to discuss courses with Juniors anl beginners after events .

All proposals for the next meeting are to be sent to the freasurer. the club

chairing the meeting, and all club secretaries at least two weeks before the

ne)(t meeting.

As the first event organized uy the new committee of UCDO we are verypleased with the success of the Clarabeg event. The 190 competitors hadclear wea ther a nd a choice of 6 courses. In view of our lack ofexperience in running events we were glad to have no tooajormishaps, even, miraculously, no complaints about misplaced controls (A1tthough some A-course competitors swore about the physical demands of their course). Wehad a dry run for the event by organizing a closed event for new UCDOmembers the Sunday before.Flushed by our success we look forward to running another event in theNew Year (and beyond who knows, WM 81 in Ballinderry ..•.• ?).

Planner's Note

As far as I know. this was the first "serious" Night Event in this

country. and this posed certain problems regarding course lengths and

control sites. wanted an A course winning time of about 60 minutes.

so I was near enough. The other courses were more difficult to predict

because of the small number of competitors. but I'm satisified that

they were about right. The weather on the night caused SOMe to retire.

aAd the full moon never even appeared. but I think the comnetitors found

the competition challenging and enjoyable. But. even though the first

clOSing date was on October 15th. the entries were still coming in two

days before the event when I thought I had all the work done.
