The goal is to blend IB and NC requirements to provide
challenging & rewarding learning experiences that will be
beneficial to your student.

DESIGN CYCLE Yes, it still exists! Yes, students will have to
complete the cycle twice during the semester. During the completion
discussion takes place REGULARLY to ensure students understand the
score they have earned and areas for improvement.

ABOUT THE CLASS This course is an IB requirement for every year
of the MYP (Middle Years Program). The focus is critical thinking
& problem solving. Its often been said a better name for this
course would be IB 101.

A personal goal is for every child to understand the reasons
behind the scores theyve earned & feedback provided. One of the
goals of IB is to teach students to self- advocate. Please
encourage your child to ask questions (either in class, stay
behind, come in the next morning, send an e-mail, etc.) if anything
is unclear.

Students who want one-on-one help can schedule with me in
advance to meet before or after school. Students who show up
without scheduling will be helped after those who have made
previous arrangements.

COMMUNICATION We try to reply to e-mails within 24 hours, even
if its to let you know your message has been received and will need

HOW IS MY CHILD DOING? Multiple methods will be provided to
help you stay informed on how your child is performing in the
classroom. 1.Remind for parents This will allow me to send periodic
updates directly to you as a push notification, text message or an
email.

2.Gradebook Summative Every nine weeks 4 summative scores will
be entered using the 0-8 scoring. Check points As students are
learning content there will be a variety of assignments that allow
us to measure their level of content knowledge. This information is
vital to ensure ability to complete a summative (graded)
assignment.

Checkpoint continued When viewing assessment in PowerSchool
click on the dash next to the assignment to see comments/feedback
on your childs progress. Examples: 17 out of 20 correct did not
submit work on day due

PHYSICAL ARRANGEMENT OF CLASS Exercise Balls - Studies have
shown that having to engage balance while doing classwork has
increased the retention of content. Bean Bags Creating a
comfortable informal setting to promote small group discussion.
Counters/Standing Desk Studies have shown improved attention,
on-task behavior, alertness and classroom engagement.
