Gender Action Learning System (GALS) Introduction Workshop, 27 - 31 March 2017,Tanjung Bira, Makassar

Indonesia Business Links (IBL) with several organisations, such as Aliansi Desa Sejahtera and AKVO, are involving in

Empowering Youth for Work Program. It is a collaborative youth economic empowerment which coordinated by OXFAM.

As part of the program, OXFAM conducted Gender Action Learning System (GALS) Introduction Workshop, 27 - 31

March 2017, in Tanjung Bira, Makassar.

The objectives on this workshop is to know and map the problem of gender discrimination and stigmatization. One of the

problems that usually happened is early marriage and even many of them had already divorced. The reason is because

of economic challenge, where parents are more pleased if their daughters get married, they could decrease the

economic burden; and family relationship requirement, where those youths were married with their relatives. If parents

rejected the request, usually, the relationship will not be good anymore.

There are many methods for implementing gender approached training, such as Diamond I Like, Vision Journey, Gender

Balance Tree, Empowerment Leadership Map, and Multilane Highway. These methods aim to encourage beneciaries to

be brave for revealing their opinions.

For IBL, Gender Action Learning System will be implemented in Indramayu, which is the IBL coverage program area

under Empowering Youth for Work Program.

NATIONAL ACTION PLAN TRAINING - SDGs

Indonesia Business Links (IBL), founded in 1998 by business leaders who have strong vision towards business triple bottom line (protplanet-people). IBL 's programs is active mostly in human capital development, environment, and anti-corruption. IBL's activities are related to awareness campaign on business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR), building the capacity of corporate partners on sustainable business practices, and building/fostering partnership for development. The programs related with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity in 2030. There are 17 goals, which are interconnected, 169 targets and 241 indicators. The 4 pillars of SDGs are i) Social Development Pillar, ii) Economic Development Pillar, iii) Environmental Development Pillar, iv) Law and Good Governance Development Pillar.

According to the result and evaluation of MDGs, Indonesia is one of countries who reach a good achievement where 49 of 67 indicators categorized as 'achieved', while 18 indicators still be continued to be reached in SDGs. Some of these unachieved targets are categorized as challenging targets such as to decrease Mother Mortality Rate, HIV/AIDS prevalence, Water and Sanitation problems and other issue. MDGs target was 'Halng' all issues, ie: Halng Poverty number, Halng Maternal Mortality Rate' ect, but SDGs target is “ZERO” for all target. This target is quite challenging and ambitious but not impossible.

The legal basis to support SDGs is “Peraturan Presiden” (Presidential regulation) and further will be elaborate in 'Peraturan Menteri' (Minister Regulation) that also will be elaborate in 'Peraturan Daerah' (Local Level policy). The principles of SDGs are: i) Comprehensive and Human Centered, ii) Integration: Integrated to all social dimensions and iii) No One Left Behind. The 4 participation platform of SDGs are i) Philanthropy Business, ii) Expert and Academics, iii) Government and Parliament, iv) OMS and Medias.

The National Action Plan matrix will record program activity/work plan for every 5 years from all stakeholders/contributors who directly or indirectly support the SDGs goal and target, as a response to the nding in MDGs evaluation where many stakeholder has given their contribution toward MDGs but didn't recorded well.

The National Action Plan matrix will be completed by all contributors including companies. This matrix will generate a map regarding what already being done-what more can be done/need to be improved-and other result. The process to complete this matrix has just started and still need more time and action in the future to accomplish it and monitor it as well. IBL, Cardno and Partnership Brokers Association will conduct Partnership Brokers Training: A 4-day skills development course for those involved in brokering and managing multi-stakeholder partnerships10 - 13 April 2017 Jakarta, Indonesia

IBL Newsletter #2 edition - 2017

Managing multi-sector partnership is extremely important in achieving inclusive and meaningful outcomes for sustainable development. However, such cross-sector partnership is often difcult and involves complex situation that is far behind the expectation of stakeholders. Multi-sector collaboration requires the support by adequate expertise for managing collaborative processes. For that, action partners or intermediary organizations are needed to navigate the process by being a catalyst, facilitator, coordinator, mediator, advisor, and negotiator. Such roles involve competence which is based on both science and art.

This training was run in association with Indonesia Business Links (IBL) and Cardno.
