even invited their Cisco Mentor, Ryan Kido, to join them in a local television report on their team. Sandi Boyd, Coach for Alamo Academies, remarked about how helpful the team’s Cisco Mentor, Chad Stewart, was when training the team on the Cisco Packet Tracer software and raved: “It’s great to have an outside mentor give (Continued on Page 7.)

As CyberPatriot continues to evolve into a more challenging and relevant competition, our sponsors step up to the challenge. New to The CyberPatriot National Finals Competition is the Cisco Networking Event. Cisco systems engineers will conduct the event. Three parts will comprise the event:

Network Design and Subnetting

Physical Wiring

Network Configuration.

Cisco took a hands-on approach to preparing teams for the competition. Cisco systems en-gineer Steve Gyurindak was the lead for the competition preparation. With the backing of Cisco headquarters, he arranged for more than 20 systems engineers to meet and men-tor each of the National Finalist Teams. Addi-tionally, he held three WebEx teleconferences to explain the competition to Coaches and answer any questions and concerns they had.

Reaction to the mentorship was very positive.

Service and Open Division competitors, as well as the top International Exhibition, Civil Air Patrol, Naval Sea Cadet, and Junior ROTC teams. Two additional awards will be pre-sented to the teams in each Division with the highest scores for the Cisco Networking Event. On March 14, the competitors will receive a briefing at the Northrop Grumman Corpora-tion and tour Washington, D.C. We have a great schedule of events, and a great group of competitors. We wish every team could be here, but sadly that was just not possible. But we hope to see YOUR team at National Finals next year!

An internship at Northrop Grumman Corporation is unique. You will learn new skills, explore our enterprise, network with experts, connect with thought leaders, and finish with a resume that opens doors. CyberPatriot interns are the future of our nation’s workforce. You’ll work side by side with our cyber pros to learn more about the career field and how important this specialty is to our national security. Here are the basics:

For college level internships we typically look for rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students at accredited colleges and universities

We look for high potential students of all grade levels and have internship opportunities for high school students

Work assignments typically begin in May/June and end in August/September. There are some opportunities for interns to stay on in a part-time internship capacity year round

Included in many of our intern programs are orientation and kick-off events, networking opportunities with leadership and other interns, social activities, and learning sessions

We also offer cooperative education opportunities, or co-ops. A co-op is slightly differ-ent from an internship in that your school decides the terms and works with us through-out the experience. Co-ops may earn credit plus an hourly wage, and they are not lim-ited to the summer months

For more information about the intern program go to: http://www.northropgrumman.com/Careers/StudentsAndNewGrads/Pages/Cyberpatriot.aspx To find opportunities for CyberPatriots, go to this link and enter “CyberPatriot” in the key-word field: https://ngc.taleo.net/careersection/ngc_coll/jobsearch.ftl?lang=en

First Tweet

According to computerhistory.org, Twitter came out of a brainstorming session at the podcasting company Odeo. The initial concept was to share short messages via SMS text messaging with a small group.

Jack Dorsey was the primary designer of what was then code-named “twttr” and sent the first message at 9:50am on March 21st, 2006 - "just setting up my twttr." Twitter would be released to the public that July and found its first major success at the South by Southwest Interactive conference in 2007 shortly after it was spun-off as its own company, Twitter, Inc.
