version 4.2

Instrusion Beam Measurement Millimeter microwave Sensor

IBM(Intrusion Beam Measurement) Sensor

02

version 4.2

Features of millimeter microwave▶

- Extremely short wavelength (3mm) reflects well off powders and granulates at oblique angles

- Narrow beam line-of-sight propagation similar to laser beam

- Not influenced by temperature, pressure wind or gas composition, unlike ultrasonics

- Not sensitive to condensation, mist, dust or dirt - unlike ultrasonic

- Can use any Al or steel plates as mirrors or plastic prisms for beam redirection

- Focus adjustment by a lens (PP, PE, TEFLON, quartz glass etc)

- Can be mounted away from a tank, looking in through small windows, unlike 6 or 26GHz radars

Application

IBM millimeter microwave sensor can be used in various application such as level

measurement of solid/liquid material, hot metal detector, collision avoidance and speed detector.

Level Sensor for extremely high temperature molten

“The I.B.M. Radar Sensor” can measure in extremely high temperature applications by using narrow-beam millimeter microwaves directed into the hot zone inside the tank, through a small ceramic window.

● Level measurement in a special environment (extremely high temperature silo, electric furnace molten, blast furnace level) ● No damage by temperature because the sensor mounted at a distance from the tank

The I.B.M. Radar sensor can be mounted above a flanged ceramic window installed on top of the vessels. In such a case it can measure the level without any divergence, unlike with some competitive technologies (e.g. gamma ray or x-ray).

The I.B.M. Radar sensor is not influenced by the amount of dust or deposits that would prevent other types of sensors from working. It is also insensitive to flame or smoke. It can measure levels of materials such as molten steel or iron inside molds, lava, molten glass, molten zinc, molten magnesium etc. It does not exhibit the difficulties stemming from beam divergence, typical of other types of radars operating at much longer wavelengths (6GHz and 26GHz). In this respect I.B.M. Radar is more similar to laser sensors but is not as sensitive to dust, smoke or environmental obstructions as lasers.

The IBM sensor does not detect light of infrared rays, but millimeter microwave is used, thus even exposure to the extreme dust occuring in the processing of steel does not make any measuring error. It is not influenced by steam thanks to excellent intrusion properties, It is not even necessary to clean the lens when dust is stuck to it. This sensor can also measure, even if the lens is covered with cloth.

Non-Contact Belt Speed Detector

This device detects speed of the belt to the conveying materials such as ore or cokes and sets off on alarm when the belt malfunctions. It can be protected against accident in advance by alarm when the conveyor belt slips or stops. The existing rotary contact belt speed sensors are contacted to the belts and arise wear of belt by turning at a high speed. Thus they had limitation of contacting detection like exchange of parts after using during some period due to shaft wear and bearing sticking. However, this IBM sensor overcomes the limitations of contact method -detecting speed by non-contact and giving relay contacts below the speed the user requires.

Collision Avoidance Sensor

Millimeter microwave Sensor

● Crane Collision Avoidance (especially crane collision avoidance device in the area where is not measured by photo

laser method at heavy dust environment)● Collision Avoidance of large and small ship at heavy foggy ● Obstacle detection of vehicles

- Alarm range setting (2ranges)

- Display measuring data on the real time

- Built-in red pointer to recognize target
