    PREFACE

All India Coordinated Research Project on Potato initiated in 1970-71 is operating through

17 State Agricultural Universities based centers, 7 ICAR-CPRI based centers and 1 voluntary

    center.

In this 47th Annual Report of AICRP (Potato), experiments conducted during summer/kharif

2018 in hills/plateau and rabi 2018-19 in the plains have been reported. There were 13

experiments in Crop Improvement, 20 in Crop Production and 19 in Crop Protection at

various locations. Efforts have been made to collect, consolidate, analyze and compile the

data collected from those experiments in this report. Based on the pooled analysis of the

performance data of advanced hybrids, three promising hybrids have been identified and

are being proposed for release. Besides, three technologies related to Crop Production &

two related to Plant Protection have been identified and if recommended, will be passed on

to the respective State Department of Agriculture/Horticulture.

I would like to record my sincere thanks to Dr AK Singh, Deputy Director General

(Horticultural Science), Dr T Janakiram, Assistant Director General (Horticultural Science-I),

ICAR, New Delhi and Director, ICAR-CPRI for their keen interest in the programme, help and

guidance. I am indebted to my colleagues Dr VK Dua, (Head, Crop Production), Dr Vinay

Bhardwaj (Acting Head, Crop Improvement) and Dr Sanjeev Sharma, (Acting Head, Crop

Protection) for their help in compiling this annual report.

I am also thankful to Dr’s Jagdev Sharma, Paresh Chaukhande, Puja Mankar, Name Singh, VK

Gupta, SK Luthra, Raj Kumar, Shambhu Kumar, Salej Sood, Vinay Sagar, Kamlesh Malik,

Mohammad Abas Shah, Anuj Bhatnagar, Baswaraj R and Ravinder Kumar for interpreting

the analyzed results and preparing write-ups of their respective disciplines for this annual

report. Dr Vinod Kumar, Principal Scientist and Mr Dharminder Verma, Assistant Chief

Technical Officer, AICRP Unit, CPRI, Shimla have been instrumental in compiling the

information and their efforts are greatly appreciated.

Statistical analyses by Mr Dharminder Verma, Assistant Chief Technical Officer; secretarial

assistances by Mrs Jyoti Thakur, highly skilled clerk; assistance provided by Mr Sanjay

Kumar, Technician and Mr Surinder Pal, Sr Technician in reprography are appreciated and

    thankfully acknowledged.

    CROP IMPROVEMENT

GENET. 1: EVALUATION OF GERMPLASM 1.(b): EVALUATION AGAINST POTATO APICAL LEAF CURL DISEASE One hundred germplasm accessions including advanced hybrids, local collections and varieties were evaluated against Potato Apical Leaf Curl New Delhi Virus (PALCNDV) at Hisar. One accession, U593/7 recorded immune reaction, while 8 accessions (CP 4508, Rajendra-1, CP 4532, Desiree, MS/95-4904, MS/91-132, CP 4539 and CP 4494) were highly resistant (≤10% infection) to apical leaf curl virus. In addition, 11 accessions were found moderately resistant to Apical Leaf Curl Disease (≤20% infection).
