Impact Factor – suggestions re Sensors Journal
Seems SJ is not the only one taken a hit in 2009. Need to consider the bigger picture.
Proposal: to check the impact factor of Special Issue journal papers as opposed to regular journal papers, to make sure that is what we want to encourage quality wise.
Discussion – who can help with this data search
If positive – can teaming with other journals on special issues help?

Bio-Sensors
Professor Darrin Young focuses on developing a wireless implantable multi-channel bio-sensor with blood pressure, EKG, and core body temperature sensing capability. The technology development not only will be important for advanced biomedical research, but also attractive for improving future health care quality, for example to provide early event detection, warning, and preventive response for humans.

Sensors Journal Best Paper Award
Committee members: Evgeny Katz, Gert Cauwenberghs, Ignacio Matias, Sandro Carrara
Selection process started with the best cited papers over the last two years (2008 and 2009), with additional nominations from the AEs and from the community at large.
Selection process was not easy this year, we had two papers with quite close results in the voting, and they were in the same area (optical detection).
32
Sensors Journal Best Paper Award
We decided to add a Runner Up to be acknowledged in the awards presentation.
Proposal: to add a Runner Up in the Best Paper selection regularly. It is a plaque recognition only, enhancing our reach and PR.

Sensors Journal Best Paper Award
Best paper (citation):
l The 2010 Sensors Journal Best Paper Award is presented to the paper by G.M. Hwang, L. Pang, E.H. Mullen, and Y. Fainman, “Plasmonic Sensing of Biological AnalytesThrough Nanoholes”, vol. 8 (12), pp. 2074-2079, Dec. 2008.
l This paper demonstrates a unique optical sensing mechanism and nanostructure in microfluidics for label-free detection of chemical and biomolecular analytes by surface plasmon resonance. The optical detection method achieves an excellent sensitivity of 6.6 10-5 refractive index units, and is demonstrated for specific detection of pathogens.
