Stackable “Building Blocks”
Upgrading an existing system is easy with AccuFAS. These2' x 2' x 4' (610 x 610 x 1220 mm) "building block" modulesare lightweight and rigid and can be hand-installed likeother Brentwood plastic media modules ... without cranesor any expensive installation equipment. The modules aretypically stacked 4 high on a footprint of 12 modules (for atotal of 48 modules) above the floor and supported byBrentwood's AccuPier System.
Increased Capacity
AccuFAS systems add the benefits ofFixed Film systems into the suspendedgrowth Activated Sludge process.Towers of AccuFAS modules aresubmerged in the activated sludge tanksto provide extensive surface area for
biomass growth. The attached biomasspopulation can increase the effectiveMLSS concentration by over 2000 mg/l,increasing organic load capacity. Thisalso reduces F/M ratios, improvingprocess control and stability.
Higher MLSS without HigherClarifier Solids Loading
Because a significant portion of theactive biomass remains attached to the AccuFAS media,rather than suspended in the mixed liquor, organic removalincreases without overloading secondary clarifiers withhigher solids loads. For activated sludge systems withclarifier solids loading problems, treatment performancecan be maintained or even improved while reducing MLSSloading to the secondary clarifier.
Maximized PerformanceThe structured crossflow PVC sheets of the AccuFAS module(above) are designed to maximize fluid mixing performanceand oxygen transfer through the biomass on the mediawalls. And AccuFAS modules are compatible with fine
bubble diffusers for the most effective oxygen transfer.
Economical
Because an AccuFAS system improves wastewatertreatment without adding aeration tankage or clarifiers,it is a low-cost solution to upgrading activated sludgeplants. And these PVC modules require significantly lessinstallation and capital costs than stainless steel frame
modules or floating IFAS media.
Resistant to Organic and
Hydraulic Shock LoadsAn “Achilles Heel” of activated sludtechnology is the potential for peakhydraulic surges to “wash out” thesuspended biomass from the aeration
basins. With AccuFAS, the biomass isfixed in place, protected within thePVC sheet structure, and available totreat the incoming organic load thataccompanies hydraulic surges. Andunlike IFAS systems that use disperssponges or polypropylene cylinders,
fixed-in-place AccuFAS mediaeliminates the need for the expensivepumping and screening associatedwith those types of systems.
Enhanced Nitrification
The biomass living on the AccuFAS media increasesMCRT (Sludge Age), promoting nitrification. During coldweather and where lower compliance limits are imposedthe added biomass improves the performance of nitrifyinplants, or even allows non-nitrifying plants to nitrify.
Durable and Long-LastingAccuFAS modules are designed for durability and longlife under the harsh conditions of an activated sludgeaeration tank. Brentwood's structured PVC sheets andAccuPier Supports are famous for their strength andcorrosion-resistance.
Brentwood AccuFAS IFAS Media are modules of rigid, crossflow, PVCsheets that provide a simple yet robust solution for Integrated Fixed Film/Activated Sludge applications.
