IHM’s Blessing of the Pets

Blessing of the Pets was held at IHM on October 5th. Father Howell blessed the pets of the IHM community outside while the school watched. We prayed for our pets and had fun watching the animals! There were fish, dogs, cats, spiders, hamsters, and more. It was so much fun because we celebrated Saint Francis while watching and praying for each others’ pets.

Gift Wrap FundraiserBy Kalea Costa

IHM participated in a gift-wrap sale this fall. The whole school went to the library for an exciting presentation. We sold wrapping paper to raise funds for the school. During this sale, students not only earn money for IHM, but also earn prizes for themselves. We got gift-wrap, toys, and more. If you sold enough items, you received stuffed fox plush toys, and those who got the golden egg will participate in the hamster balls and video game car com-ing to IHM! You could also earn chain foxes, such as: Tic Toc Fox, Lamb Fox, Baby Fox, and more. We hope the people that found a golden egg will have a fun time with the activities!

The 1st Graders and Kindergarteners trip to Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch

On October 16, the kindergarteners and the first graders went to Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch. Here are Jayden and Ellyssa’s opinions about their trip.

Ellyssa said, “ I loved it so much.”

Jayden said, “I loved it. It was so much fun! My favorite part was when I went on the tractor.”

Overall the class says it was a great trip!

The 6th Graders Trip to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum

On October 7th, the sixth graders went to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum.

Lexi Coral says, “It was a really fun experience and we got to see some real artifacts! There were only around 20 replicas of some artifacts, but there were still a ton of real artifacts! For example, we got to see a real mummified man and child. The child was around 4, and it was really sad. My favorite part was when we went into a replicated tomb, the tomb of Kaul. There were also hidden facts which you had to shine with a blue light, and that was another one of my favorite parts. Overall, we learned a lot and had fun at the same time.”

Felicity says, “The Rosicrucian Egyptian Muse-um was really cool. I got to see artifacts that

ancient Egyptians used in their ev-eryday lives and REAL mummies and their decorated sarcophagus-es. We also got to see and learn about all of the different Egyptian gods and how they ruled. Their architecture and gardens looked just like real ancient Egypt mon-uments. It was one of my favorite field trips!”

Facebook Adventure

It’s been an active year for the 6th Grade Girls Scouts. Over the past 12 month’s we have had the opportunity to meet with female Coast Guard pilots and women who work at the San Mateo Crime Lab. The latest installment of our series of adventures was when the scouts headed over to the Facebook campus in East Palo Alto in late October. They met with Vatsal Mehta a director at Facebook, and two software engineers, Tina and Rachel. The girls explored Facebook campus and discovered what life was like working at Facebook. They saw how em-ployees got access to many different things. After signing in and enjoying beverages in the lobby the girls piled into #JessethePacer car and took a couple of photos. The girls also learned how the idea of Facebook checking in and Instagram was created when some people drove around and posted pictures of them on Facebook. The girls also learned that sometimes hack-ing could be a bad thing however sometimes hacking can be a good thing as well. The girls got to explore an arcade room with lots of games that employees could play to relieve stress, such as Dance Dance 2000, and Pac man. The girls also got to experience a delightful treat at the sweet shop on campus of Facebook. Then before they headed outside they stopped at a poster shop and picked up a couple of posters to take home. Then after their tour inside of Facebook they went outside to the iconic Facebook sign and took a group photos.

Not only did the girls get to enjoy some delectable treats, and play games, they also got to learn what it was like to be an employee at Facebook. The girls also learned that if they wanted to work at Facebook the most likely would need some back ground in computer engineering and software coding. The girls

4th Grade Volleyball: The fourth grade girls’ volleyball team played well this season. It was really fun for the girls. They worked on calling the ball. They had great serves, but sometimes they rushed their serves. They had amazing plays and learned to run to the ball. They tried their best and worked hard. The team can’t wait for next season!

6th Grade Volleyball The 6th grade girl’s volleyball team is full of great servers. They serve underhand and overhand. They always call the ball and call out. They don’t get upset when they lose or rub it in when they win. They are a very good team and work well together.

4th Grade Baseball The boys hit the ball well, and they had a great stance up to bat. They stopped the ball from getting past them. They cheered the person up to bat. They did smart base running. They caught many pop flies and ground balls. They did an amazing job. They also tried their hardest.

BATMAN VS. SUPERMANBy Matthew and John

Everybody knows about Batman and Superman. Some of their amazing movies and games include The Arkham Knight, Man of Steel, Batman vs. Robin, The Dark Knight Rises series, Batman: Arkham Origins, Superman: The Movie, Superman Returns, Super-man Unbound, and The Superman Series. It was speculated that the movies would end because there weren’t many movies or games coming out in recent years. Personally, we like the series and celebrated along with these heroes’ many other fans when they made a new movie. It is called Batman vs Superman.

The two greatest D.C. heroes (Batman and Superman) are at war, while a new villain ris-es, threatening mankind. The stories are based on comic books mixed together with a few tweaks up their sleeve. Batman and Superman aren’t the only super heroes in the movie either. There is also the one and only Wonder Women with her lasso of truth.

The movie will come out at Comic Con on March 25, 2016. The actors in the movie will be Ben Affleck is Bruce Wayne, Henry Cavill is Superman, and Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman. We look forward to seeing this movie and hope that you check it out too!

The ALL NEW 2015 Fantastic FourBy Ryan Levine and Vincent DeMartini

The new 2015 fantastic four was an ac-tion-packed sensation with a science-fiction twist. It is about five friends who volunteered for a science project for a teleportation de-vice. The four boys break the rules and sneak in the teleporter when it wasn’t ready to be tested yet. Victor gets stuck on the alien plan-et that they travel to as the other three barely escape with their lives. As they teleport back, fire, rock, invisibility waves and elastic waves teleport back with them which gave them all if their powers. Later on they notice their friend Victor has transformed into a cyborg. Can they stop him from destroying the world along with the human race?

Scorch TrialsBy Angelo and Andreas

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials came out on September 18, 2015. This movie is a sequel to the hit movie, Maze Runner. Both books are based on the best selling novels by James Dash-ner. The movie made $175 million dollars at the box office. The movie was filmed in New Mexico at an American Indian base. It is about Thomas and his friends and how they try to avoid WICKD by escaping the base and going into the scorch. In the cave they hide and they turn on the power gen-erator and a bunch of cranks/zombies start chasing them. If you want to find out what happens next, you should probably just watch the movie yourself. We don’t want to ruin the story. You should definitely see Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

Clash of Clan Tips

Clash of Clans is a game that involves strategy. Here are a couple of tips:

#1: You will start with a rank. The higher the rank the higher the money earned after fighting a base. #2: You gather recourses to upgrade defenses, weapons, and storage. #3: You can attack other players and get recours-es. Or attack the goblins from the story. Here is the last tip. At the start they will give you 5 wizards. We suggest that you only put down two because you will use the other 3 when you build your training hut.

Minecraft Story ModeMinecraft story mode is a new game that is an up-grade to Minecraft. There are few familiar char-acters. Some well known Youtubers play such as Stampy, TDM, and PopularMMOS. It is very fun and it’s out for IOS, Ps4, etc. It seems a lot better than regular Minecraft. It’s out for $4.00 so it is definitely worth getting. The characters are funny and talk. In regular Minecraft, Steve doesn’t talk. We definitely recommend that you check out this upgrade!

The new WWE game coming out this Octo-ber is the best one yet. The roster has more than 120 wrestlers, and it isn’t just the cur-rent wrestlers. There are wrestlers from the Attitude Era, the Universe Era, and so many more! You can also create superstars or give a superstar another attire. Lastly, you can play as NXT superstars such as Fin Balor or Kevin Owens. The graphics also look a ton better in this game. If you’re a WWE fan you should get this game this October.

ADVenture Capitalist starts with some fast clicking so that you can build your shops and stores. Then you can earn money to buy more and more things. upgrade, but when you click the earn button you auto restart. You can buy upgrades to speed up your shops and in the top left corner when you click on the man with a hat and it will say something like billionaire or millionaire something like that and it will add things later on.

MLB PLAYOFFS

The MLB playoffs started October 7, 2015. There are still 7 teams in the playoffs. A lot of peo-ple think the Kansas City Royals or the Toronto Blue Jays are going to play in the World Series. I think the Blue Jays are going to win, but anything can happen. It’s the postseason. The Cardinals and the Yankees have already been knocked out by the Astros and the Cubs. The Blue Jays, Cubs, Mets, Dodgers, Royals, and Rangers are still in it. Enjoy the playoffs, and I will be writing an article on the WORLD SERIES next quarter!

GIANTSThe Giants had a disappointing season this year. After their humiliating loss against the Dodgers, they officially couldn’t move on in the season or keep the Dodgers from stealing their priceless title. But on the brighter side of things, the Giants maintained their ironic “Every other series winning title.” We think that they could’ve done much better if they hadn’t traded Pablo Sandoval to the Red Sox.

Fourth Grade California Regions The IHM 4th graders made California Region projects. They were very creative and used uncooked beans for their map key. We think the 4th graders did a very good job.

Sixth Grade Creation Story Comic Strips

The sixth grade completed Creation Sto-ry comic strips. After studying how God created the Earth, students used the verses to illustrate their ideas of what the vers-es mean. Sixth graders were interviewed about their Creation Story Project:

Lexi Coral: It was super fun because I like to draw things colorfully and creatively!

Felicity Desuasido: Some of my friends just summarized the verse but I actually wrote it all down. The drawing was super fun and turned out really cool!

Gabriel Wood: The Creation Story project gives the students making it an interesting opportunity to learn more about the stories of creation and also exercise their artistic abilities.

Fifth Grade Monster Mixup Project

The 5th graders did a creative project for Halloween. After drawing their monsters, each student described the monster so another student could draw it without seeing it. They did a great job with their artistic abilities. I can tell that the 5th graders put a lot of effort into this wonderful artwork. Andreas Shyperett said, “This was actually pretty fun. We got to draw our mon-sters and color them. Then we partnered up and gave them descriptions on how to draw them.”

The Pope’s Visit to AmericaBy: Emma Nilstoft & Jackie Eng

On Tuesday September 22, 2015, the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, arrived in Washing-ton D.C. where he was accompanied by military offi-cials. Flying from Cuba to America had tired him so he took the rest of the day off. The next day, Pope Francis had an early, personal meeting with President Obama. Then he stepped outside and made a speech in front of reporters and the government. Some aspects of his speech were reducing air pollution, not letting the numbers of immigrants phase us but rath-er think of them as people, and last, he spoke about the US relationship with Cuba. Next, he arrived at the national shrine of the Immaculate Conception to canonize Father Junipero Serra, now Saint Junipero Serra. He was then the first Saint to be canonized in America. Soon after, he met with both sides of con-gress and made a speech. He then became the first pope to meet with both sides of congress. He then arrived at JFK airport in New York where he held several masses and made several speeches. His last stop was in Philadelphia where he met with bishops, held a mass, and met with volunteers and organiza-tions. After his eventful stay, he returned home to Rome. Pope Francis’s journey inspired many people and encouraged them to do their part in theCatholic faith.

The sky isn’t the limit anymore! After Neil Arm-strong set foot on the Moon, Mars One is planning to send eight humans to Mars, hoping that humans could one day live there. They found water on Mars, and that is a huge discovery. Right now, Mars One is in an early mission concept phase. An impressive board of ambassadors and advisers from all over the world including an astronaut, a Nobel Prize laureate, and the N.A.S.A. chief technologist is supporting the team of eight. Sure, Mars may not be very wel-coming, but NASA and other industries are working towards this massive goal hoping to soon refer to it as an achievement. Good luck to the team of eight on their journey to Mars!

Hololens is a new type of goggle that let you see inside video games. It is a thick goggle with a screen inside it.

It has a cord that connects to your electronic device. Hololens can come in many different colors and sizes. You can play the game in your device with voice, movement and your controller. I think Hololens will be very fun and useful.

The iPhone 6s has many cool features. For in-stance, it can create moving pictures. When you hold on an app it shows you its notifications, and it can open Siri when you say “hey Siri.” Using your fingerprint, you are able to unlock your phone like the iPhone 6. I think the iphone 6s is really cool and you should check it out!
